1 Introduction welcomes you to this public exhibition regarding the planning application for. We have set out information on the background for their new school and the consultation process we are now going through. The proposed design for the new school is on display and we hope this will give you a clear idea of what the will look like by the end of September 206. The new building is to be delivered as part of the government s PSBP programme (Priority Schools Building Programme). The Educational Funding Agency together with Kier Construction have brought together a team that has expertise in the design, planning, environmental design, transport and construction and together have made a robust assessment of all relevant issues to provide a high quality, bespoke educational facility for the staff/pupils of and for the public as a community wide resource. The Priority School Building Programme is addressing the requirements of schools most in need of urgent repair. PSBP is a capital funded project, which will undertake rebuilding and refurbishment projects across the country. has secured funding under the programme and Kier Construction is expected to be announced preferred bidder for the Kent batch in March 205. Existing New Site Proposed Site The land purchased by Kent County Council, is approximately 5 minutes walk from the existing. Located nearby Minister Road / Halfway Road, it is.5 miles from Queenborough train station to the west. DANLEY ROAD Bordered by residential communities to the north (Sheerness), the west (Queen Borough), and to the east (Minister on Sea), the site is already well served by public transport and a well established road network. The site offers a large open green space, particularly beneficial for a Forest School such as Halfway Houses Primary. The site is well concealed by trees which align the southern end of the site, creating a boundary between the residential properties on Minister Road and a portion of Halfway Road. H A LF There is currently no public access to the site. Being the site of the previous D ROA WAY Danley School which was demolished in 2009, there is an already established vehicle entrance and pedestrian pathways. Access to the site is attainable from a security gate located to the north of the site, namely Danley Road, as well as to the south of the site, from a narrow footpath parallel to Halfway Conservative Hall. 3 Massing and Appearance Key Views The massing presents a welcoming 2-storey school, which has a positive relationship with the immediate context which is primarily landscape, as well as with the residential buildings which enclose the landscaped space on three sides. The plan for the school is organised so that the main entrance separates the classrooms (private and to the East) from the halls ( public and to the West). The primary facade of the school from the visitor s perspective is the North, with the public faces of the school being both the North and West, these KS2 and Playground public faces contain the spaces best suited to this location i.e. the reception, the large hall and small hall. The mass of the school is typically two storeys, and the rooms within the plan determining the volumes by their function, for example the large hall is two storeys, and the small hall one and a half storeys. The composition and layout of these spaces is considered, functional and creates an attractive public approach and welcoming entry sequence. KS Playground The first floor overhang is a massing technique used on the south and north façades to provide shelter and visual interest, and forms natural places to enter the building. The building will acquire a horizontal form with a contrasting linear timber cladding which has been specifically chosen to embody the nature of the landscaped surroundings. 5 School Entrance The entrance will be located on the north side of the school building from the new public space, this can be clearly seen from all entrance points into the site. This will give visitors an immediate sense of the whole site. This also helps create a building that is inviting and legible to all. Entrance View School Interior Key Aspects of the Proposal: The priority for the new design is to clearly organise space that facilitates the provision of the curriculum in accordance with the Authority s requirements and School specific brief, to provide for the needs of the pupils, staff and other users, and also to capture the unique Forest School ethos of. The classrooms provide large, bright, learning spaces with access to outdoor areas for, Year and Year 2. New informal learning spaces have been introduced in corridors, expanding the format of education and providing diverse settings for teaching. First Floor Corridor Teaching Areas

6 Information The Kier team will be submitting a planning application for the new at the begining of April 205. All comments received from this exhibition will be reviewed and used to work up the detail of the final scheme for submission of the planning application. Once the planning application is submitted Kent County Council will be publicising the planning application and writing to local residents and interest groups as part of their statutory planning consultation process. If you are one of the local residents who is contacted please make sure you reply to Kent County Council Planning Department with your comments and views even if you have provided comments to us today. We would like your views and comments now. We hope you found the exhibition informative and we would be grateful if you would complete our questionnaire before leaving. These are completed anonymously and will be analysed and passed to the Council to inform the planning application process.
