15 Abut Alberta Health Services (AHS) AHS is the largest health care services merger in Canada tasked with crdinating the delivery f health supprts and services acrss the prvince: Amalgamatin f 9 frmer health regins and 3 prvincial entities t a single health services bard; >100,000 staff serving a ppulatin f 3.7 millin (including 7,400 physicians); Gverned by an Official Administratr wh reprts directly t the prvincial gvernment, specifically the Minister f Health; Annual budget f ~$13B 15

16 Backgrund AHS transitin t a single prvincial health service has identified significant data challenges: Clinical and nn clinical infrmatin systems (paper and electrnic) were implemented frm a regin specific perspective. Lacking and incnsistent use f data standards, data capture methds and different methds fr data aggregatin and data duplicatin. Autmatin and integratin f infrmatin systems is expsing data vulnerabilities. There was n centralized crdinated infrmatin management gvernance structure within AHS. Independent decisins were being made in the absence f a frum fr enterprise wide decisin making resulting in a lack f prvincial data/infrmatin standards, interperability and duplicatin f effrt. 16

17 Backgrund (Cntd.) Health Infrmatin Management realized in the early days f AHS that in rder fr patient care t be transfrmed, infrmatin needed t be valued and trusted as a strategic asset. This includes all infrmatin types and all mediums that need t be managed and crdinated at the enterprise level thrugh: Standards Plicies, prcesses & guidelines Identified rles & authrities Peple, prcess & technlgy 17

18 Enterprise Infrmatin Management Gvernance (EIMG) What is Enterprise Infrmatin Management Gvernance at AHS? A centralized crdinated gvernance structure which supprts the rganizatin t btain assurance that the risks t its infrmatin, and thereby the peratinal capabilities and integrity f the rganizatin, are effectively identified and managed. It des nt replace peratinal respnsibility fr data/infrmatin but prvides an verarching structure f plicy, standards, guidelines, etc. t supprt business peratins. 18

The fcus f the IMG Framewrk is at the enterprise level and will influence and imprve the infrmatin management lifecycle, including cnsistent data, data definitins, data use and leading practices fr Infrmatin Management. Gaining acceptance requires nging Executive and Senir Leadership supprt and clear and cnsistent cmmunicatin regarding the purpse, gals, apprval structure, prgress and utcmes f the standing cmmittees and wrking grups. Align the IMG Framewrk with rganizatinal pririties such as the Prvincial Clinical Infrmatin System and Prvincial Health Analytic Netwrk t name a few Leverage and align the rganic Data Gvernance mdels t an enterprise mdel. 22
