1 LARSEN SPORTS MEDICINE & CATALYST SUMMER INTERNSHIP Program Description Larsen Sports Medicine & The Catalyst Institute in Hudson, WI offers an unpaid academic summer internships in the fields of performance enhancement, rehabilitative science and sports medicine. The objective is to expose young professionals a team based approach that will become the gold standard in the years to come. This highly interactive internship program allows students to have one on one education time, as well as implement their teachings in a real world setting. Programs are individualized to prepare each student for their desired career path. Hours Candidates should expect to be involved in the internship 5 days a week for 6-8 hours per day. Candidates can seek outside employment as long as it does not interfere with program requirements. Didactic Each intern will choose 3 areas of personal and professional interest to focus on for their summer program, some options include: Performance program design Training the juvenile athlete Evaluation of Athletic Injury Instruction of proper lifting technique Performance testing Emerging trends in performance training Rehabilitation Emerging trends in Athletic Training Research Many additional opportunities Applicants will have the opportunity to observe surgery, physical therapists, physicians and work with dieticians and psychologists who focus on the athletic population. Prerequisites To be eligible for application, you must be enrolled in a bachelor program within the following areas of study, and have completed the first year of schooling: Kinesiology Athletic Training Exercise Science Biomechanics

2 Pre-physical therapy Or related field Applicants should hold a grade point average of 3.0 out of 4.0 Current first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation cards Additional Admission Requirements Completion of the following at the beginning of internship: HIPPA Blood Bourne Pathogen exposure training Orientation Background screen as requested by our affiliates Applicants must be able to perform the essential functions of the profession and meet the standards of the curriculum. 5 INTERN EXPECTATIONS A student intern must be highly committed to sports medicine & performance enhancement. They must be willing and eager to participate in all facets of the Catalyst Program. The student serves as a member of the staff and therefore establishes him or herself accordingly in a professional manner. This includes: 1. Respect and a positive attitude towards all clients, patients, administrators and staff. 2. Developing a positive relationship with the athletes and patients, while maintaining a professional distance. 3. The actions and verbal communications are a reflection of Larsen Sports Medicine and Catalyst, and need to be taken very seriously. 4. Willing to help enhance the program by continuing education and research. 5. Perform maintenance responsibilities as well as some office responsibilities (i.e. data entry, data collection) The student intern will report directly to one of the staff directors and will work under the direction of all coaches, assistant coaches, and the athletic director. Internships are strictly on a volunteer basis and no benefits or compensation will be provided. The program is designed for the intern to gain knowledge in the field of performance enhancement and sports medicine. The intern will also gain practical experience by teaching exercise and/or rehabilitation techniques and also the opportunity to gain a better understanding of program development and administration. Overall, this experience will help the intern gain comprehensive knowledge of how a performance enhancement program and sports medicine team is run on a day-to-day basis. In turn, possibly opening doors for future opportunities in the profession. 6. Ability/willingness to pass a criminal background check.
