We believe that the best and most effective apprenticeship programmes are those which form part of a wider, considered and structured, approach to engaging with and investing in emerging talent. We think what comes before, and what sits beyond, an apprenticeship programme is really important. We like to think about three distinct phases through which employers can engage with emerging talent and we use the image below to illustrate our thinking.

4 Engaging The engaging phase is about helping businesses develop a relationship with their future workforce. It s about working with young people to help inform and inspire them about careers in their sector, and making sure that their education is preparing them for the realities of the world of work and giving them their first experience of the workplace. The sorts of things we help businesses do in this phase include: Offering work experience placements to school and college students. Talking to students in schools and colleges about their career paths. Attending careers fairs to talk to students about their sector and business. Helping schools and colleges to design their full time programmes. Training The training phase is about how businesses attract and then train young people when they first join the workforce. Particularly given the advent of the apprenticeship levy that could very well be through an apprenticeship. It could also be a graduate programme, or bespoke initiative that meets the particular needs of the business. The sorts of things we help businesses do in this phase include: Providing work experience placements for young people on a traineeship programme, often with the prospect of an apprenticeship if they think the young person is a good fit for their business. Running campaigns to attract young people to a business; this might include targeted efforts to attract candidates from different communities and talent pools. Apprenticeship programmes; looking across the full range of business units and occupations in a business. In future we also plan to support graduate programmes. Progression The progression phase is about what happens next. If businesses are to retain their best young talent in a vibrant labour market, they need to offer clear development and progression opportunities beyond the initial apprenticeship or graduate training programme. To maximise their return on investment in emerging talent they need young people to realise their full potential and progress as far as their talent will take them. The sorts of things we help businesses do in this phase include: Higher level apprenticeships: apprenticeships at levels equivalent to higher education Progression pathways: other opportunities for further development, including qualifications like ILM or CIPD Future leaders programmes: identifying and developing future leaders within an organisation

5 We re realistic people in Hart L&D. We know that employers have a day job to do, and we don t advise or insist that our clients do all of the above. We do help them think about what they re already doing and how they could join the dots. We help them identify what would work best for their business and how they can get the maximum return on their investment in emerging talent. 6 LECTURER IN ACCOUNTING Hours: Full Time Remuneration: 25,000 to 38,000 Reporting: Head of Apprenticeships & Training Working with: North Hertfordshire College ROLE SPECIFICATION Deliver consistently good or better teaching sessions, incorporating an effective range of learning strategies that enable outstanding learning outcomes for all students. Maintain high expectations of students, working with them to raise their ambition and aspiration, ensuring they realise their full potential. Deliver an appropriate blend of learning opportunities, making effective use of technology both within the classroom and via online and independent learning. Undertake all aspects of student assessment including internal verification and liaison with external verifiers and awarding bodies as required. Act as a course team leader for designated courses, maintaining up to date student records and delivering against agreed student retention, attendance, success, satisfaction and outcome measures. Provide both academic and pastoral support for your students, supporting them to achieve their destination ambition. Comply with the college s maths and English strategy, maintaining your ability to embed both subjects into your teaching practice. Work with colleagues responsible for both transformation & student services to deliver an overall student experience, which engages, inspires and prepares students for the world of work. Work with the Head of Curriculum and Quality and Innovation Centre colleagues to continually strive for excellence and improve standards in teaching and learning across the academy. Engage proactively with internal and external stakeholders to maximise opportunities for employer engagement in the learning process. Support college marketing and recruitment activities to attract potential learners and improve conversion rates.

7 PERSON SPECIFICATION A strong track record of good or better teaching and learning delivery, whilst achieving high levels of student success. Experience of curriculum, course design and assessment that meets awarding body requirements. Highly developed course team leadership skills, and effective implementation of quality systems and engagement with student voice as a driver for quality improvement. Up to date knowledge of safeguarding, equality and diversity, health and safety and child protection legislation as it impacts on learning. Good analytical skills with proven ability to use management information to identify issues and opportunities to drive quality and performance. Well-developed organisational, communication and teamwork skills. A degree and/or professional qualification in a relevant subject area. Hold or be willing to work towards, a relevant teaching qualification Qualified and able to deliver ATT up to Level 4 Ability to deliver CIMA and ACCA course is desirable
