2 Who is CSI Support & Development? CSI Support & Development Services is a not-for-profit real estate development and property management firm that provides cooperatively managed affordable senior housing. The Board of Directors is comprised of 13 elected resident/members from the CSI family of co-ops across the country and is the governing body of our entire organization. MISSION STATEMENT Our mission is to use our unique cooperative management system to provide superior and affordable senior housing communities. VISION STATEMENT Our vision is for our unique cooperative management system to be the premier national model for affordable senior housing.

5 Our Cooperative Management System CSI s unique cooperative management system engages members at every level of the decision making process. Co-op members are empowered as they volunteer to manage the daily operation of their home with support from paid staff. This leads to healthier, happier lifestyles as members stay active physically, mentally and socially. Members elect representatives from their floor or building to represent their interests on the council. Representatives take requests from the members to the council and communicate information from the council to the members. Members of the co-op elect a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer annually. These officers handle the daily management of the co-op with support from a CSI staff liaison. Members of the co-op elect congress delegates to act as the link between the members and the Board of Directors. The congress coordinator sits on the co-op council to represent the interest of CSI s Board of Directors. Co-op council is the governing body of the co-op. Council meets monthly and as needed to discuss and vote on management issues. Council works with the guidance and support of a CSI staff liaison. Each co-op has many committees made up solely of unpaid member volunteers who work around the co-op. Committees report monthly to council on the progress of their activities.

This leads to healthier, happier lifestyles as members stay active physically, mentally and socially.

6 Social Engagement The cooperative management system promotes social engagement in affordable senior housing, and relies on volunteer support from the members that live in the co-ops. Participating in the co-op affords seniors the opportunity to make meaningful connections with their fellow members, promotes physical and mental activity, and creates a sense of community and ownership amongst those who call their co-op home. This model greatly reduces the likelihood of isolation and loneliness amongst seniors leading towards improved health outcomes.

7 Isolation in Seniors Both social isolation and loneliness are associated with a higher risk of mortality in adults aged 52 and older (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2012) Feelings of loneliness negatively affect both physical and mental health (National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project, 2009) Loneliness and social isolation are major predictors of seniors utilizing home care & entry into nursing homes (British Columbia Ministry of Health, 2004) There is a direct relation between loneliness and increases in blood pressure (University of Chicago, 2015) People who are socially isolated are more likely to report risky health behaviors such as poor diet, lack of physical activity, and smoking (English Longitudinal Study of Ageing, 2011)

10 Cooperative Staff CSI Support & Development staff are strategically placed to provide professional staff support to the members. Management Work with members in the day to day operation of their co-op. Education Provide continual education, training, and resources for members to effectively manage their co-ops. Certification Process applicants for move-ins/move outs and annual financial recertification of members. Accounting Record, analyze and report on co-op and CSI finances. Development Expand the cooperative family through new building development and acquisitions. Administrative Provide daily administrative assistance to the staff and co-op leadership.

Education Provide continual education, training, and resources for members to effectively manage their co-ops.
