1 Senior Update Week of February 8 th Grade Reports With the exception of those seniors who ask Miss Hoyt to wait on their grade reports, all grades have gone out to colleges for the second quarter/semester. If you receive an from a college indicating these are missing, please ignore it. Colleges automatically send out these general s to everyone who has applied to that college. If anyone has a question on this, please ask Miss Hoyt for clarification. Updates A reminder that all seniors who applied to colleges under the Regular Decision admissions policy should be sending those colleges update letters. A sample letter was given out to seniors if anyone needs a sampler, let Miss Hoyt know. It is vitally important to send update letters to keep your name in the college loop, show the

2 colleges you really want to be accepted, and prove to the colleges you are a serious student who is continuing to work hard to be the type of student the colleges want as part of their campus community. FAFSA Reports If any parents/guardians need help in completing the FAFSA and/or understanding the Student Aid report (SAR), please let Miss Hoyt know. She would be very happy to meet with parents/guardians and work on this financial form. Forensic Lecture Series at URI The university is offering a series of seminars related to Forensic Science. These sessions are free and would be a great opportunity for nay seniors interested in this career/field. The sessions will be held on Fridays from 3:30 to 5:00pm in Pastore Hall, 51 Lower College Road, Room 124. Interested students should go online at get the application: --- Awards are for $1, The sooner student submit the application, the better chance they have of being awarded the scholarship. Criteria: academics, leadership, and community service. Applications must be submitted no later than March 10 th.

4 The Jason Douglas Foreman Memorial Scholarship Jason Douglas Foreman was a young boy from South Kingstown who was tragically killed. His family has established this memorial scholarship of $1,000. Criteria includes: Senior must be a resident of South Kingstown or Narragansett, demonstrated community service. Applications are available in the college counseling office. Completed applications must be given to Mrs. DeCesare no later than May 5 th. She will submit all applications together. The Alice Sullivan Memorial Scholarship The scholarship has a minimum award of $ This is for females seniors who have participated in varsity sports in high school. The purpose of the fund is to sustain in perpetuity Alice Sullivan s life, character, and enthusiasm for girls athletics. Applications are available in the college counseling office and must be submitted no later than March 25 th

5 The National Interscholastic Athletic Scholarship This award is for seniors who have participated in varsity sports, and have achieved at least two of the following: a minimum of a B+ GPA, tanked in the top 25% of the class, an ACT composite score of 24 or an SAT scores of 1500 (math, reading, and writing). For more specific information, go online at: -- this involves an essay which Miss Hoyt would be very happy to review for any interested student. Wards range from $1,000 to $2,500. Applications must be submitted no later than February 25 th. There is a section Miss Hoyt has to complete, so if she could receive students applications before the 25 th, that would be great The Leona A. Kelley Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is in memory of Leona Kelley to, encourage and reward local students for preserving the environment or conducting research on the history of South County, Rhode Island. Awards are for $ Applications are available in the college counseling office. Applications must be competed and submitted no later than March 19 th.
