love how YOU live The Registered Provider is: - Company No Abbey Square, Chester, CH1 2HU The Responsible Individual is: Barnabas Borbely LL.M (LSE) Solicitor/Director Registered Manager Ruth Allt Authorised and regulated by the Care Quality Commission The best possible outcome for service users is when providers and families work together." "I am delighted with the progress my son has made with Special Needs Care. I feel like I got my son back Parents
why? Special Needs Care is an established service provider offering bespoke care for adults with learning disabilities. Based around the individual and the small family unit, we provide a desirable and beneficial alternative to traditional types of institutional care and accommodation. Gathering valuable input directly from service users, their families, health professionals and Social Services, together we create tailor-made development programmes to match individual requirements, and therefore offer our clients choice, control and flexibility. We build close one-to-one relationships with each person, ensuring their happiness, security and well-being encouraging them through education, employment and recreation. Special Needs Care s experienced Management team - headed by a Solicitor, and including a Social Worker and a Registered Manager - understands the needs of service users and their families, and is able to provide a wide range of professional and personalised services including: Supported Living Services Direct Payments/Individual Budgets Advice on welfare benefits Advice on housing matters Advocacy/Employment Law Paid and unpaid supported employment We also employ staff with qualifications in Music, PE, Swimming, Physiotherapy and Professional Gardening and can thus provide a range of outdoor and recreational activities. Our services are accessible via Government funding sources such as the Independent Living Fund, Supporting People Grant, Direct Payments, Individual Budgets, Carers Vouchers, Housing Benefit and Private or Social Services funded budgets. The agency provides an excellent service for all users, and excellent training for staff, with future prospects within the company. They offer a professional service to potential clients and value the staff team. Inspection Report, Care Quality Commission 2 Statement of Purpose
love how YOU live what to expect? The houses are finished to a very high standard, and offer up-to-date and comfortable living. With a maximum of just three service users, each house has a modern, open- plan design and is positioned close to the city centre. Each service user has their own bedroom, and several of these are en suite. All rooms are secure and are furnished with lockable drawer units. Clients are encouraged to personalise their own rooms and arrangements can be made for furniture to be removed if service users wish to bring their own. Houses are staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and our staff are provided with a room to allow for supervision throughout the night. Staffing is allocated on the basis of a needs-led assessment, and if an individual is considered to require one-to- one staffing, or even more, then that can be provided. Service users decide how they wish to spend their time. Staff support individuals to continue their education through enrolment in local colleges or night schools, and there is an abundance of nearby leisure and recreational facilities should clients benefit from physical stimulation such as walking or swimming. We have access to a trained music therapist, and are happy to help users to access whatever therapies they choose. In short, it is the needs and desires of the service user which shape their experience with us and they are, at all times, listened to and their opinions sought and respected. "Special Needs Care offers an exceptional level of one-to-one personalised and professional support with one of the best properties in the market Chester Social Worker 3
who are we? At Special Needs Care, our dedicated team of care professionals has a genuine and passionate commitment to providing the very best for the clients in our charge. The team works closely with local authorities and partnership organisations, staff and suppliers to manage the services offered by Special Needs Care. Barnabas Borbely LL.M (LSE) -Solicitor/Director, a qualified lawyer and member of the Law Society, owns and manages Special Needs Care. Barnabas graduated with a Master of Laws from the London School of Economics & Political Science and is fluent in three languages. His commitment to social care is lifelong a member of his family has a learning disability and he has worked in the care and special needs sector for fifteen years. As such, he has a close personal and practical knowledge of the requirements of those with special needs and their families. Barnabas is supported by Ruth Allt. 4 Statement of Purpose
love how YOU live Ruth Allt is an experienced Social Worker registered with the General Social Care Council, and has extensive experience in Social Work. Ruth has worked in Child Protection and her most recent role prior to joining Special Needs Care was working with Adults with Learning Disabilities and Mental Health team for Local Authorities in the North West. Her main role was assisting clients in identifying suitable accommodation, whilst arranging care packages to suit individual needs and promote independence. Ruth is aware of the dilemmas and uncertainty that families can experience when a family member chooses to live independently. At Special Needs Care, we recruit staff on the basis of their extensive knowledge, proven skills and clear abilities in social care. We also follow the strict recruitment and selection guidelines set by the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and the Care Quality Commission. All staff must submit to a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check, and must have an NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care, though our support staff are frequently educated to degree level. Upon appointment, our staff are expected to achieve the higher levels of NVQ (or equivalent) within a given timescale. 5
so what next? Should you be interested in using our services, please feel free to come and visit our office or properties, meet our clients and staff, and experience how Special Needs Care can fulfil your needs and those of the person you d like to place with us. We will then carry out a full assessment of the prospective client at his or her current placement, invite them to visit and, perhaps, stay overnight. Once all parties are happy with decisions reached, we will arrange for the transition to one of our properties. Ongoing dialogue with all parties At all times during this process and thereafter, we maintain strong links and dialogue with clients, family members, authorities and key professionals to ensure that everyone involved are fully satisfied and happy. Provided the relevant authorities and parents confirm acceptance of the placement and their financial responsibility, and the transition is successful, we will offer a minimum three-month settling-in period followed by a review, to ensure that our new client s individual needs are met and maintained. Placement as soon as possible Special Needs Care will provide the authorities and the client (or their representative) with a written contract which includes our costs (based on our individual assessment), together with our standard Terms & Conditions. If we have no immediate vacancy for long-term care, we will place the prospective client on a waiting list and endeavour to find them a suitable placement within one of our homes as soon as possible normally within three months. There is now an urgent need to begin the development of a new adult care system. In the future, we want people to have maximum choice, control and power over the support services they receive. Putting People First' Concordat-HM Government 6 Statement of Purpose
love how YOU live Complaints Policy At Special Needs Care we recognise the right of anyone to raise concerns regarding their care and the services we provide and, therefore, complaints are dealt with professionally and according to guidelines established by the Care Quality Commission. We hope that most problems could be resolved by simply contacting the Management Team. If, thereafter, you are not satisfied that the problem has been resolved or handled to your satisfaction, you may wish to make a formal complaint and you can do so by post, fax or . We will reply within 14 working days but, if the complaint requires more detailed investigation and we are not able to give you a full response, we will give an interim response detailing what is being done to deal with the complaint, when and from whom you can expect the full reply. The full reply will include details of who to contact next should you believe that your complaint has not been dealt with properly or sufficiently.
