1 Statement of Interest National Contract Management Association s Board of Directors To whom it may concern: I would like to take this opportunity to state my interest in continuing my service on the NCMA Board of Directors (BoD) in program year As you ll see in my enclosed resume, my higher education, experience in the United States Air Force and participation in NCMA makes me an ideal candidate for re-election to the Board. I am currently a Contracting Officer for the Air Force Research Laboratory at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico and had the opportunity over the past seven plus years to work for the Air Force Material Command at Tinker AFB; the U.S. Special Operations Command in Tampa, Florida; and the Air Force Space Command in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Los Angeles, California. Not only have I received extensive experience in the field of contract management, but I have also had the chance to work as a Quality Assurance Program Manager for multiple commands and participate in a career broadening position as a Staff Director for the Program Executive Officer for Space. My strong base in contracting combined with the enlightened views of working as a QAPC and Staff Director provide me with exceptional insight into the acquisition profession which is rarely found in the majority of my counterparts. Additionally, by being mobile in my career field, I have been exposed to a multitude of different leadership styles and organizational structures that I can draw from while leading the association. Not only have I continually proven my contracting and leadership ability throughout my career, but I have also strived to better the profession by my continued participation in NCMA at a local and national level. My involvement on the BoD to date has demonstrated that I am not afraid to speak my mind when it comes to the best interest of the association. I possess the educational background, professional experience, and proven track record for getting the job done. I have had the opportunity to work on a vast array of national committees, subcommittees and ad hoc committees which has given me a breadth of understanding in the association s governance and policies which is vital as a Director. In addition, my extensive involvement in university outreach and participation in the distinguished Contract Management Leadership Development Program (CMLDP) (as a student and as a committee member) offers up a unique perspective to the current BoD dynamic. My commitment to the association is best confirmed by my recent award of the Fellow designation which is reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of contracting and to NCMA and is the third highest award given by the association. As part of the current NCMA strategic planning committee, I know firsthand the opportunities and challenges that face the association and I am excited at the prospects ahead. My vision for NCMA is to capitalize on the somewhat bleak outlook that is currently plaguing the contracting community and make NCMA the catalyst to bring back the optimism and pride that once thrived.

2 NCMA has the obligation to guide the contracting career field through this tumultuous environment and I honestly believe I am an outstanding fit to help lead the charge. My vision for NCMA also includes expanding on the awareness of contract management as a profession. It is unacceptable how little is known about what it is that we do as contract managers outside of our community. We have been lucky enough to have outstanding talent fall into contracting for the past few decades but it is time we take an active role in broadening the understanding of our occupation and having the top performers start coming to us. Moreover, I believe it is time to take NCMA s mission past an elevator speech and prove to membership its enormous value/relevance and demonstrate that it is an integral part of the profession. NCMA must better articulate this value by showing applicable worth for some of its benchmark programs such as certifications, trainings and conferences. If given the opportunity to run for the board for a full term, I know my contributions to the board would be exponential. I fully understand the time and travel commitments that are associated with this office and have a proven track record of perfect attendance for the 2013 program year. My passion for the profession and its future compels me to continue my support of NCMA at a higher level and my enthusiasm and drive for the success of the association makes me a perfect nominee.
