1 First Church l Melbourne John and Sarah Bell Scholarship Information SCHOLARSHIP PURPOSE: First Church, Melbourne encourages higher education and desires to support students with prayer and financial aid. The John and Sarah Bell Scholarship provides a one-time award to assist with the financial costs of a higher education. EVALUATION FOCUS: The scholarship decision team looks at the applicant's academic record, financial need, interest in the pursuit of an education beyond high school, and demonstrating an on-going commitment to our church and/or a church where you will be attending school, by continuing to participate in worship, activities and ministries. ANONYMITY and SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE: All applications will be given a code by the scholarship decision team secretary, and the names will be kept anonymous. The team making the decisions will only receive the supporting data needed to determine the scholarship award. Applicants are not guaranteed an award. Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the John and Sarah Bell Scholarship Decision Team. Guidelines / Instructions 1. Scholarship applicants must be high school graduates, college undergraduates, college graduate students, community college students, or vocational / trade school students. 2. Scholarships are awarded for those attending a qualifying school. You must reapply each year. Applications do not carry over to subsequent year. Scholarship awards expire one year from the date awarded. Funds will be paid directly to the school in which you are attending and can be used for tuition and/or books only. Awards will be administered by the John and Sarah Bell Scholarship Committee Chairperson. 3. Applicants must be a member and an active participant here at First Church, Melbourne. Membership will be verified by our church membership secretary. 4. Applications must be received by Friday, May 1, 2015, at 12:00 PM. Applications received after this date will not be considered. Please return your application in the envelope provided. You may mail or handdeliver your application to First Church, Melbourne, Attn: John and Sarah Bell Scholarship, 110 East New Haven Avenue, Melbourne, FL Please include your name and return address on the front of the envelope. 5. Please answer all questions fully and concisely in the space provided. Please print legibly. 6. Test Scores: Please attach copies of all standardized tests taken (ACT / SAT), a copy of your most recent report card, enclose an official high school transcript and no less than two letters of recommendation. 7. All applicants will be notified by mail of the committee's decision. 8. Awards will be presented to each recipient on Sunday, June 7, 2015, during the 11:00 AM worship experience. 9.
