1 What s New with Salesforce for Outlook? Available in: Contact Manager, Group, Professional, Enterprise, Unlimited, and Developer Editions Salesforce for Outlook v2.1.2 New Supported Operating System We now support using Salesforce for Outlook with Microsoft Windows 8. In our system requirements, you ll now see that we support the following operating systems on Microsoft Exchange, along with the latest versions of hot fixes. Windows 8 Windows 7 Windows Vista (32-bit) Windows XP (32-bit) We don t support Apple Macintosh operating systems. We fixed an issue in which Salesforce for Outlook didn t display the correct language for organizations set to use languages other than English. (W ) We fixed an issue that prevented Salesforce for Outlook v2.1.1 users from adding s using the Add s and Send and Add buttons. (W ) Salesforce for Outlook v2.1.1 Recurring Events We fixed an issue that generated a sync error when users created recurring events that started on a date in the past, and had a number of occurrences that extend beyond the number that Salesforce supports. (W ) We fixed an issue in which Salesforce for Outlook incorrectly generated the error, Duration not set. (W ) We fixed a problem to address the situation in which a user in one time zone created a recurring series, which included an attendee in a different time zone. Specifically, if that attendee modified an occurrence, the next sync cycle changed the start time for the series by the difference in time between the two zones. (W ) 1

This side panel displays up to a total of four contacts and leads from the From, To, and Cc fields in your users s. In addition, users can: See up to a total of four open and past activities and opportunities related to the contacts and leads that appear in the side panel. Manually add s to either one contact and one account or opportunity, or one lead only. See whether Salesforce encounters duplicate contacts or leads, and choose the most appropriate ones to display in the side panel. Search for additional contacts, leads, accounts, and opportunities. Use the blue text links to view details directly in Salesforce. 2

Your users can also click the search icon ( ) to find other contacts, leads, accounts, and opportunities, and then add s to them. There s even a collapse icon ( ) to hide the side panel. 2. Considerations When you enable the Salesforce Side Panel, the Add s button no longer appears directly in Outlook. In addition, the Send and Add button no longer appears in individual Outlook s that your users send. But users can select s in the Sent Items folder, and add sent s the same way as they add received s. Supported browsers include Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 or later. The DELETE function in the search box is inactive. To modify search entries, users can either press BACKSPACE, or click Done and then search again. To Enable the Salesforce Side Panel 1. Click Your Name > Setup > Desktop Administration > Outlook Configurations. 2. Either create a new Outlook configuration, or edit an existing one. 3. Select Side Panel. 3

4 4. Select any other options that apply to your Outlook configuration. 5. Click Save. 6. If you don t yet have a remote site configured for your organization, create one now. To do so, click Your Name > Setup > Security Controls > Remote Site Settings. 7. Click New Remote Site. 8. Add a remote site name. Then, add a remote site URL, which is your organization s Salesforce URL. 9. Click Save. Learning about Improvements to Sync Performance We changed the frequency by which Salesforce for Outlook syncs contacts. Instead of syncing contacts automatically every 10 minutes, Salesforce for Outlook now syncs contacts automatically every hour. This improves the overall speed of the sync process, because contacts don t sync as often compared with previous releases. Your users can, of course, manually sync as often as they d like. Understanding Security Improvements We increased security to prevent others from logging into Salesforce using the Salesforce for Outlook icon ( appears in your Microsoft Windows system tray. If you don t have your browser logged in to Salesforce, you ll now receive a prompt to log in to Salesforce when you click My Unresolved Items or Outlook Configuration from the system tray icon. Keep in mind that if you have multiple logins, and you have a browser logged in to Salesforce using a different user name or URL compared with the ones in your Salesforce for Outlook Settings, you won t receive a prompt to log in. Instead, the system tray icon directs you to the active login within your browser. To access the same login as Salesforce for Outlook, we recommend you close any other logins within your browser. ) that 4

5 For events that Salesforce archived, we fixed an issue that caused the sync process to delete those events in Outlook. (W ) Salesforce for Outlook v2.0.5 Recurring Events For recurring series that have modified end dates in Salesforce, we fixed an issue that prevented subsequent modifications to those series in Salesforce from syncing. (W ) We fixed an issue that prevented monthly recurring series in Salesforce from syncing if any of the occurrences had fewer days than the day of the month set for the monthly pattern. For example, your user created a recurring series that occurs on the 30th day of every month. Because February has fewer than 30 days, Salesforce for Outlook displayed an error and didn t sync the series to Outlook. (W ) Salesforce for Outlook v2.0.4 Recurring Events We fixed an issue that prevented events with multiple contacts from syncing. (W ) Specifically, When users added multiple contacts to Previously synced events in Salesforce New events in Salesforce The sync process Deleted the events in Microsoft Outlook. Never synced the events to Outlook. Salesforce for Outlook v2.0.3 Salesforce for Outlook Side Panel We fixed an issue that prevented users from adding large s to Salesforce records. This issue also caused the side panel to display the error No selected. (W ) Recurring Events We fixed an issue that prevented syncing modifications of recurring series in Salesforce to Microsoft Outlook. Specifically, this occurred when users modified start times of the series in Salesforce by fewer than 60 minutes. For example, the original start time of the recurring series was 1:00 PM. In Salesforce, your user modified the start time of the series to begin at 1:30 PM. The modification to the series won t sync to Outlook. (W ) Salesforce for Outlook v2.0.2 Salesforce for Outlook includes new features that help your users boost their productivity and improve their overall experience syncing items with and adding s to Salesforce. 5

Syncing Recurring Events Available in: Professional, Enterprise, Unlimited, and Developer Editions User Permissions Needed To sync recurring events between Outlook and Salesforce: Recurring Events In addition, Read and Edit on events, and event sync direction set to any of the following directions. Outlook to salesforce.com, Salesforce.com to Outlook, or Sync both ways Your users can now keep Outlook and Salesforce recurring events in sync with Salesforce for Outlook, which supports the following recurrence patterns. Daily Weekly Monthly Yearly After syncing recurring events to Salesforce, your users can assign the recurrences to related records, like contacts, accounts, opportunities, and so on. Syncing recurring events also helps your users maintain an accurate view of their availability when they create events and request meetings from their Salesforce calendars. Considerations When you enable recurring events, you enable the feature for your entire organization. You can, however, choose the Outlook configurations for which you want recurring events to sync. After you enable this feature, you can t disable it without help from the salesforce.com Support team. All Salesforce for Outlook users will need to upgrade to Salesforce for Outlook v2.0 or later. 8

9 Recurring events do not appear on the My Unresolved Items page. Instead, your users can go directly to the recurring events in their calendars to associate the recurring events with Salesforce records. Your users Salesforce for Outlook configuration settings don t indicate whether their Outlook configurations are set up to sync recurring events. In Salesforce, if your users delete all occurrences within a series, but not the series itself, Salesforce for Outlook generates an error message after it syncs to Outlook. Your users can ignore this error message, which clears during the next sync. You can also learn about other important details for how recurring events differ between Outlook and Salesforce, as well as details about making modifications to recurring series in Salesforce.com Winter 13 Release Notes. To Enable the Recurring Events Feature 1. In Salesforce, click Your Name > Setup > Desktop Administration > Outlook Configurations. 2. For your Outlook configuration, click Edit. 3. Under Advanced Settings, select Recurring Events. 4. Click Save. Saving Time with Associations We listened to what your users wanted, so we reinstated the way Salesforce handled unresolved associations on the My Unresolved Items page. Starting in Spring 12, we displayed separate rows for each unresolved address in the To and Cc fields of s your users added to Salesforce. With these separate rows, Spring 12 and Summer 12 increased the time required for maintaining the My Unresolved Items page. With Winter 13, the My Unresolved Items page now displays only one row for each when Salesforce can t match any addresses for recipients that appear in the To and Cc fields of s your users add to Salesforce. Users will also notice that we replaced the Recipient column with the reinstated From/To column on the My Unresolved Items page. 9

10 Additional Enhancements When users delete large numbers of contacts, events, and tasks, Salesforce for Outlook now displays a confirmation message that gives users an opportunity to proceed with or cancel the deletion. Salesforce for Outlook v We fixed an issue that caused the Add s and Send and Add buttons in Microsoft Outlook to disappear after 10 or more minutes of inactivity. (W ) If you encounter this issue again after installing Salesforce for Outlook v , perform a manual sync, which resolves this problem. To do so, right-click the system tray icon ( ) and click Sync > Sync Now. Salesforce for Outlook v For users who plan to upgrade from Salesforce for Outlook v , we fixed an issue that caused potential data loss from Salesforce events during the upgrade process to Salesforce for Outlook v To avoid losing event data, your users on Salesforce for Outlook v must now upgrade directly to Salesforce for Outlook v (W ) Salesforce for Outlook v For users who specified a non-latin character-based language in Microsoft Windows, we fixed an issue that caused Salesforce for Outlook to close unexpectedly during the sync process. (W ) For users who sync events from Salesforce to Microsoft Outlook, we fixed an issue that caused Salesforce for Outlook to sometimes create events that contained no content in Outlook. (W ) Known Issues Salesforce archives events with a due date more than 365 days old. For users who sync events from Salesforce to Microsoft Outlook, Salesforce for Outlook deletes the events in Microsoft Outlook after they re archived in Salesforce. We plan to resolve this issue in a future release. (W ) Salesforce for Outlook v For users who plan to upgrade from Salesforce for Outlook v , we fixed an issue that caused potential data loss from Salesforce events during the upgrade process. To avoid losing event data, your users on Salesforce for Outlook v must now upgrade directly to Salesforce for Outlook v (W ) Salesforce for Outlook v Updated Salesforce for Outlook system messages for users who specified a non-english language in Microsoft Windows. 11 Salesforce for Outlook v Creating Cases Directly from Microsoft Outlook The Create Case feature in Salesforce for Outlook lets users create cases in Salesforce from s in Microsoft Outlook. As an administrator, you can create -to-Case destinations that appear in the drop-down list button Create Cases in Outlook. For each destination, you choose the assignee, which can be either individual users or queues. You can add up to 10 destinations for each Outlook configuration. When users create cases, they can add up to 10 s simultaneously for each destination. Before Salesforce for Outlook users can create cases from Outlook s, you ll need to perform the following procedures. 1. If you haven t already done so, enable and configure On-Demand -to-Case. 2. Define -to-Case destinations (also known as routing addresses). 3. Enable the Create Case feature in your configurations, which adds the Create Cases drop-down list button in Outlook. Salesforce for Outlook assigns a category to the s that Salesforce for Outlook users add as cases to Salesforce. This category, Added to Salesforce as a case, makes it easy for users to search for s they added as cases to Salesforce. Controlling Items You Don t Want to Sync In Salesforce for Outlook Settings, users can now choose whether to sync Microsoft Outlook contacts, events, and tasks they mark as Private. In Microsoft Outlook, users can now indicate any items they don t want to sync with Salesforce, regardless of whether they mark them as Private, by assigning them to the new category Don t Sync with Salesforce. For example, this can be helpful when users want to prevent specific contacts, events, and tasks from syncing with Salesforce. For details on using categories in Outlook, refer to your Outlook documentation. Better Control for Managing For s users add to Salesforce, Salesforce for Outlook now adds a row to My Unresolved Items for each unresolved address. While this may result in additional rows, your users now have the opportunity to assign s to all of the contacts and leads in the . In addition, My Unresolved Items now includes an Address column so that users know which addresses weren t resolved. In My to Salesforce, users can now specify domains they want to exclude from automatic association when they use Salesforce for Outlook to add s to Salesforce. For example, your users can exclude their own domain so that Salesforce for Outlook won t associate s to contacts with their domain. This can be especially helpful for organizations that create contacts for internal users, and don t want s associated with those users. Salesforce for Outlook now assigns a category to s your users add to Salesforce. This new category, Added to Salesforce, makes it easy to search for s you added to Salesforce. Salesforce for Outlook now stores the original date of the in the Due Date field of the task. Previously, Salesforce for Outlook stored the date when the was added. Salesforce for Outlook v For users who don t sync events, fixed an issue in which Salesforce for Outlook didn t sync any data. This issue existed in Salesforce for Outlook v only. (W ) 11

12 Salesforce for Outlook v Fixed an issue in which Salesforce for Outlook deleted some data from events in Salesforce. (W ) Salesforce for Outlook v Usability Enhancements You can now assign up to 50 unresolved items simultaneously on any queue using the Batch Edit feature. Based on contacts you select for unresolved events, s, and tasks, Salesforce now provides recommendations for assigning them to Salesforce records. Specifically, Salesforce provides recommendations for accounts, cases, and opportunities to which you can assign your items. If you don t want to see these recommendations, click the Turn off Recommendations link. If you change your mind, click the Turn on Recommendations link. When you add s to Salesforce, you can now add up to ten at one time. If you have multiple Outlook profiles, you can now switch between them without causing problems for Salesforce for Outlook. Compatibility Enhancements Salesforce.com now supports Salesforce for Outlook on 64 bit and 32 bit versions of Outlook Salesforce for Outlook v For users with custom domains using SAML, fixed an issue that prevented them from accessing their Salesforce for Outlook login pages. (W ) Salesforce for Outlook v Fixed an issue that prevented Salesforce for Outlook from syncing some events. (W ) Fixed an issue in which the body contents of some s added to Salesforce didn t display. (W ) Salesforce for Outlook v Sync Enhancements You can now sync single tasks between Salesforce and Outlook, which syncs tasks based on their due dates rather than their start dates. You can now sync events with locations up to 255 characters. We increased this limit from 80 characters. Configuration Enhancements Task filters are editable in Salesforce for Outlook configurations. Here s how they work: TODAY Syncs tasks that are due on or after today. LAST MONTH Syncs tasks that were due on or after the first day of last month. LAST N DAYS Syncs tasks that were due on or after a specified number of days ago, such as LAST 30 DAYS. The maximum number allowed is 180. For event filters, the maximum number allowed for LAST N DAYS is now 180. We increased this limit from

13 Salesforce for Outlook now supports single sign-on (SSO). We support both delegated authentication and Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) requirements. Enhancements The Date column in the queue now displays the original date of the from Outlook instead of the date when you added the to Salesforce. Usability Enhancements You can now access your unresolved items from either the sidebar shortcut Unresolved Items or the links on the home page for your unresolved s, events, and tasks. Updated Video Demo We updated the video demo for Salesforce for Outlook. Using Salesforce for Outlook (2:43 minutes) Fixed an issue that caused Salesforce for Outlook to duplicate contacts when users recovered deleted contacts that they previously synced. (W ) Fixed an issue in which Salesforce for Outlook failed to sync events from an Outlook data file when it wasn t set as the Default data file in Account Settings, such as a.pst file for archiving. (W ) Fixed an issue in which Salesforce for Outlook didn t sync some all-day Outlook events that didn t have durations set. (W ) Fixed an issue that caused Salesforce for Outlook to time out and not complete syncing for large volumes of data. (W ) For users whose configurations don t include data sets, fixed an issue with the Salesforce for Outlook successfully. (W ) Fixed an issue that caused Salesforce for Outlook to attempt logging in and syncing repeatedly after login information expired or permissions changed. Salesforce for Outlook now notifies users to enter their login information again. (W ) Salesforce for Outlook v Note: This patch release includes an important fix that resolves a current issue, as well as prevents the same issue from occurring in the future. We encourage all users to install this patch. For some organizations whose instances migrated (for example, from na7.salesforce.com to na10.salesforce.com), fixed an issue that prevented users from logging into Salesforce for Outlook successfully. (W ) 13

14 Salesforce for Outlook v Enhancements My Unresolved Items has been expanded to include unresolved s for users with Add and to Salesforce enabled. Users can use this page to manage all the s that have been added to Salesforce but haven t yet been associated with other Salesforce records or confirmed as unassigned. to Salesforce includes some new settings that let users further specify what happens when s are sent to Salesforce using their to Salesforce address or the Salesforce for Outlook Add button. To access these settings: Click Your Name > Setup > > My to Salesforce. You can now: Choose whether you'd like all s to be sent to My Unresolved Items so you can manually assign them to related records or whether you'd like us to first try to automatically assign them. Choose whether you d like s we couldn t automatically assign to be sent to My Unresolved Items. Attachments on s that are sent using to Salesforce or Salesforce for Outlook version or later can now be saved with the s task record in Salesforce. Click Your Name > Setup > > My to Salesforce and select Always save attachments to enable this feature. The size limit for an attached file is 5 MB when attached directly to the related list. The size limit for all files attached to an is 10 MB. Outlook Configuration Enhancements Salesforce for Outlook configurations include a new checkbox that lets administrators notify users when product updates are available. When a new version of the product is available, users see a system tray notification that takes them to the Salesforce for Outlook download page in Salesforce. Users are alerted every 14 days until they download the new version or hide system tray alerts. Outlook configurations include a new Sync contacts users follow in Chatter checkbox that automatically syncs users Chatter contacts. Other Enhancements The Salesforce for Outlook Error dialog box includes a new Try Again button that allows you to refresh the list of errors. When you click this button, Salesforce for Outlook syncs your data and removes any errors that have been resolved. Salesforce for Outlook now uses OAuth-based authentication to securely store user login information. As part of this enhancement, the setup wizard displays updated login steps, and users no longer need to manage password changes in Salesforce for Outlook. API tokens are also no longer required. Fixed an issue with syncing records from Salesforce for Outlook to some users mobile devices. Salesforce for Outlook now fixes those records after users perform their first sync. Keep in mind that Salesforce for Outlook doesn t perform syncing during the repair process. (W ) Fixed an issue that caused the system tray application to exit if the user s assigned Outlook configuration contained an event data set filter of LAST 90 DAYS. (W ) Fixed an issue that caused an unnecessary error when users repaired, modified, or uninstalled the application from the Control Panel while Outlook was running. (W ) Fixed the uninstaller to correctly detect whether Salesforce for Outlook is running when users uninstall the application from the Control Panel. (W ) Changed the text installing to uninstalling on the Salesforce for Outlook uninstaller. (W ) Fixed an issue with the My Unresolved Items link in the system tray. If users are syncing only events, this link now opens the list of unresolved events, rather than contacts, on the My Unresolved Items page. (W ) 14

15 Salesforce for Outlook v Fixed an issue that could cause updated Outlook contacts to be matched incorrectly to Salesforce contacts. Upgrading to the latest version is required, as you won t be able to continue using earlier versions. After installing this version, the first sync may take a little longer than usual while Salesforce for Outlook resyncs your contacts. (W ) Salesforce for Outlook v Enhancements and Outlook 2010 systems now require the Office 2010 Primary Interop Assemblies (PIA) Redistributable package instead of Outlook 2010.NET programmability support. If you don t already have the PIA package, it s installed automatically with Salesforce for Outlook. Fixed a contact matching issue by filtering out contact distribution lists in Outlook when contacts in the Outlook sync folder are matched. (W ) Salesforce for Outlook v Salesforce for Outlook is generally available with Winter 11. System Support Enhancements Salesforce for Outlook is now supported on Microsoft Office 2010 (32-bit only; 64-bit isn t supported). If you have Salesforce for Outlook installed on Outlook 2007 and plan to upgrade to Outlook 2010, you must first uninstall Salesforce for Outlook on Outlook You won t be able to uninstall after you upgrade. Salesforce for Outlook is now supported on Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit. You can now upgrade to a new version of Salesforce for Outlook without first uninstalling your current version. Event Sync Enhancements When non-recurring events sync from Outlook with Salesforce for Outlook, they appear in your Salesforce calendar and on the My Unresolved Items page. Use this page to either assign events to related Salesforce records or confirm that you want to leave them unassigned. You can now sync events with Subject fields up to 255 characters long. Contact and Event Assignments The Outlook queue is now called the My Unresolved Items page. It lists all the synced contacts and events that need to be either associated with other Salesforce records or confirmed as unassigned. Depending on what kinds of records are syncing, My Unresolved Items may be organized into subtabs. If we detect possible account matches for synced contacts, we list those as suggested accounts in the drop-down list on the Contacts tab of the My Unresolved Items page. Suggested accounts always show the Account Name field and the first three additional fields defined in your account search layout. To change these fields, click Your Name > Setup > Customize > Account > Search Layout. If you merge an unresolved contact with the Master Record of an existing contact, the contact is considered resolved and is removed from the My Unresolved Items page. If we find multiple matching Salesforce contacts when a contact first syncs from Outlook, you can now choose one of the following Matching Criteria preferences on a Salesforce for Outlook configuration to indicate which contact Outlook should sync with: Most recent activity, Last updated, or Oldest. 15

16 Other Enhancements Salesforce CRM for Outlook is now called Salesforce for Outlook. Sync frequency now depends on a user s workstation activity. Events and tasks sync automatically every ten minutes; contacts sync automatically every hour. If, however, Salesforce for Outlook detects keyboard or mouse inactivity for 30 minutes, the sync frequency for events and tasks changes to 30 minutes. After two hours of inactivity, the frequency for all updates changes to hourly, and after four hours, the frequency changes to every four hours. Salesforce for Outlook is now translated. See Salesforce for Outlook System Requirements in the Salesforce online help. You can now open records from the Salesforce for Outlook Errors dialog box, which appears when you double-click the Salesforce for Outlook icon in your system tray. If an error relates to a specific Outlook record, you can click the record's link to edit that record in Outlook. Salesforce for Outlook is supported on systems that connect to the internet through a proxy server. We support automatic proxy detection, manual proxy, and NTLM proxy authentication. Fixed an issue that caused the setup wizard to revert to the default Outlook folders if users started Outlook while the wizard was running. (W ) Added error messages to notify users when they are trying to log in to Salesforce from an untrusted IP address or outside of their profile s specified login hours. (W ) The Salesforce for Outlook sync log now includes the following information: the number of records that had errors and the number of records that were created, updated, or deleted during sync. (W and W ) To prevent connection issues, we increased the minimum value for the HTTPTimeout setting in Salesforce for Outlook configurations from 0 to 15 seconds. (W ) Outlook contacts with birthdays set to None now sync successfully with Salesforce. (W ) To prevent errors, Salesforce for Outlook no longer uses TNEF (Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format) when adding s to Salesforce. (W ) Limitations Events aren t automatically associated with related Salesforce records when they sync from Outlook. Users must manually assign an event to related records using My Unresolved Items. The following items don t sync: all-day events beginning on the first day you re configured to sync, and event attendees. Multiday events sync as single events in either direction. Rich-text formatting from Outlook doesn t sync. If an Outlook event with rich-text formatting syncs both ways, it syncs back to Outlook as plain text, overwriting any formatting in the original version. When selecting sync folders in the setup wizard, follow these guidelines: You can use your default folders or click Change Folder and select or create a folder that s within your default folders or the main Mailbox folder. You must define a data set for any object that has a sync direction. Otherwise, the object won t sync, and the user s configuration won t display a filter for that object. You can t map picklist values in Salesforce for Outlook configurations. Advanced filters aren t available in Salesforce for Outlook configurations. This means you can t combine filters, as in filter 1 OR (filter 2 AND filter 3). Add limitations: attachments aren t added to Salesforce. If you configure to Salesforce to associate s to matching opportunities, Salesforce searches the To and CC fields for the addresses of your contacts. If contacts are found, Salesforce saves the to the Activity History related list on all open opportunities, as long as the contact is assigned a contact role on the opportunity. For example, the contact may be assigned the role of Decision Maker on an opportunity. 16

17 Salesforce for Outlook isn t fully 508-compliant. Salesforce for Outlook doesn t currently support single sign-on (SSO). If you rename tabs in Salesforce, such as changing Contacts to Candidates, those new names aren t reflected in Outlook or the scopes and filters of data sets. A shortcut to Salesforce for Outlook remains in the Start menu of Microsoft Vista users who upgrade and then remove Salesforce for Outlook. The shortcut is removed when they restart their system. Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows 7.msi users must run the command prompt as an administrator and then launch the installer from the command line, such as from the command msiexec /i SalesforceForOutlook.msi. Salesforce for Outlook v Salesforce for Outlook is available through a pilot program. For information on enabling Salesforce for Outlook for your organization, contact salesforce.com. The following items have been updated since the Spring 10 pilot. Uninstall Requirements If you have Salesforce for Outlook installed on Outlook 2007 and plan to upgrade to Outlook 2010, you must first uninstall Salesforce for Outlook on Outlook You won t be able to uninstall after you upgrade. The current version of Salesforce for Outlook doesn t support Outlook (W ) Required Updates for Previous Configurations If your organization uses configurations created prior to Summer 10 that allow event syncing, you ll have to re-save your data sets. Just click Edit and then Save on the data set for that configuration. (W ) Windows 7 Support Salesforce for Outlook is now supported on Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit only; 64-bit isn t supported). (W ) Setup Wizard Enhancements The Salesforce for Outlook setup wizard has been updated with the latest branding and a visual representation of the user s configuration to help when choosing sync folders. (W ) Sync Enhancements You can now sync single events between Salesforce and Outlook. (W ) Salesforce for Outlook syncs events based on their end dates rather than their start dates. For example, if you re syncing current and future events only, a two-day event that started yesterday still syncs. (W ) The following menu items don t appear in the system tray application for users who aren t configured to sync: Sync, Sync Now, and View Sync Log. If data is undeleted in Salesforce or becomes available because of a change in sharing permissions, it will show up in Outlook within 24 hours or when you manually sync from the system tray. (W ) Configuration Enhancements You can now allow users to modify the following settings: object syncing, sync direction, conflict behavior, and field mappings. To turn on each permission, select the appropriate Allow users to modify checkbox in a Salesforce for Outlook configuration. You can overwrite users modifications any time by selecting Overwrite configuration changes made by users in a configuration. After you save the updated configuration, the new settings replace the existing settings for users of the configuration the next time their data syncs. You must define a data set for any object that has a sync direction. Otherwise, the object won t sync, and the user s configuration won t display a filter for that object. 17

18 If users change their configurations, they can revert to their previous settings by clicking Revert to default at the top of their Salesforce for Outlook configurations. (W ) Event filters are now editable in Salesforce for Outlook configurations. Here s how they work: TODAY Syncs events that end on or after today. LAST MONTH Syncs events that ended on or after the first day of last month. LAST N DAYS Syncs events that ended on or after a specified number of days ago, such as LAST 30 DAYS. (W ) When editing a data set in a configuration, you can now check how many records will sync for a sample user using the new Get Record Count button. (W ) Fields that users don t have access to no longer appear in their list of field mappings in their own configurations. (W ) Fixed a problem with syncing person accounts when the sync direction was set to Sync both ways and an Outlook update was applied to Salesforce for a person account record. (W ) Users who have already established a connection to Salesforce using the setup wizard no longer have to log in again when they access their configuration from the wizard. (W ) If Outlook isn t running when users open the setup wizard, they can now just start Outlook to resume setup without having to first close and then reopen the wizard. (W ) Pilot Limitations Events aren t automatically associated with related Salesforce records when they sync from Outlook. Users must manually assign an event to related records using My Unresolved Items. Events with subjects or locations longer than 80 characters, all-day events beginning on the first day you re configured to sync, and event attendees don t sync. Rich-text formatting from Outlook doesn t sync. When selecting folders in the setup wizard, you can only use your default folders, subfolders of your default folders, or subfolders of the main Mailbox folder.
