2 Directorate: The Information Directorate is responsible for end-to-end ownership and accountability for all information systems supporting the operational deliverables of the broader organisation. In particular this includes the development, maintenance, management and optimisation of TEC s ICT and information management systems and interfaces, including TEC s data and information warehouse. The Directorate performs data analysis and reports on sector-wide performance, delivers training and system support to staff, including the helpdesk function for the systems and applications deployed across TEC and oversees TEC s records management responsibilities. Role Purpose: This role is focused on delivering information to business users. This is a highly client focused role, with a strong emphasis on establishing trusted relationships with business representatives and subject matter experts. The role ensures that business requirements are captured, understood and prioritised. Key Accountabilities: Deliverables Example Measures Produce Data Access Artefacts Define business rules through engaging with subject matter experts to: create and maintain Design documents analyse source systems analyse business practices produce diagrams of business processes define business rules as implemented in business systems and processes identify business information requirements Specify end-user reports/structures analyse operational data to identify appropriate counting rules define complex business rules produce detailed business rule specifications for developers develop data models based on DW best practice and operational system functionality promote data quality by clearly defining data elements document departmental data definition approaches and issues create end-user layer objects and meta data Test end-user data tables working closely with end users to ensure the quality of the overall solution ensure the code implemented by developers has correctly implemented Solutions designed which satisfy business requirements Documentation supplied is accurate, easy to understand and able to be implemented Test cases reflect identification of all various business scenarios Positive feedback from users of the Data Warehouse that designed solutions meet expectations 2
3 Key Accountabilities: Deliverables Example Measures Produce Data Acquisition Deliverables specifications identify exceptions or anomalies that were not identified in specification ensure adherence to standards and processes provide third level support to users resolve issues with existing or new tables in conjunction with senior developers, users, analysts and DBAs Develop reports and assist users to develop reports through engaging with information consumers to identify business reporting requirements identify existing reports and tables that meet (at least part of) requirements build or modify reports quality assure reports developed by users raise improvement requests for unmet needs assist users to respond to ad hoc requests such as PQ s, Official Correspondence Perform data acquisition analysis identify data acquisition requirements for source system understand complex business rules and processes model business processes using diagrams analyse source system processing, liaising with source system BAs, testers, developers and users perform extended periods of detailed data analysis participate in workshops for source system data modelling define acquisition data models detail metadata identify potential constraints or errors with data specify and capture ETL rules Data profiling activities ensures data modelling caters for anomalies in data Data quality issues identified at design stage Business rules are accurately reflected in ETL rules resulting in low level of queries from developers and testers Testing creating test cases for test scenarios testing correct population Ensure test cases include sufficient boundary testing 3
