12 ESOS training and resources What is ESOS? The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is a mandatory energy assessment scheme requiring most larger businesses to identify energy reduction measures. Under ESOS, all large companies must undertake an energy audit conducted or overseen by an approved Lead Assessor by December 2015, with additional compliance deadlines every four years. The Energy Institute has two approved registers of ESOS Lead Assessors: the Chartered Energy Manager register and the Register of Professional Energy Consultants (RPEC). Because both registers require Chartered status as a prerequisite for entry, all EI Lead Assessors have demonstrated the highest level of competence. Whether you are working on ESOS compliance in-house or are a consultant looking to conduct ESOS work, the EI has a number of resources available to support you. 1-day ESOS workshops Our Preparing your organisation for ESOS 1-day workshop is designed to help staff members responsible for ESOS understand the legislation and compliance requirements. For details and dates, visit ESOS Compliance Toolkit The EI s ESOS toolkit is designed for those undertaking audits to comply with ESOS legislation. This toolkit can be used by anyone working towards ESOS compliance, whether as an ESOS Lead Assessor or by someone within a company preparing to appoint an assessor. The toolkit features: Tool A: Overview and introduction Tool B: Total Energy Consumption tool Tool C: ESOS Audit Template Tool D: Life Cycle Cost Analysis tool Tool E: ESOS Commercial considerations To order your toolkit, visit Find a Lead Assessor The EI s approved ESOS Lead Assessors are all Chartered, ensuring the highest level of competence. Hiring a highly experienced energy manager to conduct and sign-off on your ESOS audit will help you make an effective case for energy-saving projects to your senior management and avoid turning ESOS into a costly-box ticking exercise.
