1 About the Unobook 2 in 1 Tablet The Intel Unobook 2 in 1 tablet is a convertible laptop with a touch screen that was built specifically for education. It has a 3 year accidental drop warranty. The operating system is Windows 8.1. This laptop was designed to be water and dust resistant, with an easy to hold texturized surface and carrying handle. This rugged device is ready to be put to the test in the class. It also features useful tools for students such as a pen-shaped stylus, thermal probe and lens cover for the camera which turns the tablet into a microscope. The UNOBOOK 2 in 1 is built with the latest Intel Bay Trail-T, quad-core processor which is designed to improve the speed and battery life of tablets. This device is powered with over 8 hours of battery life! Caring for Your Unobook NEVER spray any cleaning chemicals such as Windex or other glass cleaners directly on to your screen as they may damage the LCD matrix. Make sure the Unobook is turned off and unplugged from wall socket before cleaning, and use ONLY a lint free, microfiber or soft cotton cloth to clean your computer screen. Bathroom tissues or paper towels may contain wood pulp fibers that can scratch your screen. When you are not using the Unobook, keep the LCD panel closed to protect the screen from dust. Make sure the touch pad does not come into contact with dirt, liquids, or grease. Use the AC adapter whenever an AC wall outlet is available to prolong the battery life and usage cycle. Laptops should be completely shut down when not in use. No stickers or markings of any kind are allowed on the laptops. They are not to be defaced, damaged or tagged in any way. Do not place anything on top of the laptop when it is closed as it could damage the touchscreen. Keep all food and drinks away from your laptop at all times. PLEASE BE AWARE Since updates tend to slow down laptop performance, it is recommended that you plan for extra time once Unobooks have been powered up and students have logged on. 1

2 For Your Safety Before using in the classroom or home environment, make sure that students understand the following precautions: Do not drop, crush, or step on the Unobook. Do not place objects or apply heavy pressure on the Unobook. Do not place on uneven or unstable work surfaces. Do not block the openings provided for ventilation, as overheating may occur. Do not use or store the Unobook in extreme weather conditions. Do not expose to sudden changes in temperature or humidity: keep the Unobook away from heating and A/C vents. Do not expose to magnetic fields. Do not expose to direct sunlight. Do not place near fire or other sources of heat. Do not expose to rain or moisture. Do not leave the Unobook turned on or plugged in when enclosed in a non-ventilated container, such as a backpack, as overheating may occur. Security The laptops must not be left in an unsecured area at any time. Laptops should be monitored at all times. At the end of the day, the laptops should be placed back in the cart and secured by locking the doors. Using the Touch Screen The display panel of your Unobook also works as a touch screen. You can use the stylus pen to control system operations, or as a pen for writing or illustration applications. The first time you power on the Unobook, follow the on screen instructions to activate the touch screen. Do not tap or write on the screen with excessive 2 force. Doing so may damage the LCD display.

3 Rotating Display Turn 180 degrees until the display panel gently snaps into place. Do not try to turn the display panel more than 180 degrees. If you rotate the display panel clockwise, you must turn it counterclockwise to return to its original position. If you rotate the display panel counterclockwise, you must turn it clockwise to return to its original position. In order to change back the screen orientation, with the laptop open, rotate the laptop towards you slowly. Screen rotates clockwise/counterclockwise 180 degrees Detachable Display Only on Model 2goPC NL5 By pressing down on the Orange Display release button the screen becomes detached. To reattach display and keyboard, simply push screen back into its original position until it clicks. 3

4 Battery To charge the battery, plug the AC adaptor into the Unobook and an electrical outlet. Whenever possible, use the AC adaptor to keep the Unobook connected to a power source. For a totally discharged battery, it will take approximately two hours to charge to 90% capacity, and approximately three hours to 100% while the Unobook is powered off. It will take about five hours to charge the battery to 100% capacity while the Unobook is powered on. If the system runs at heavy loads or in a high temperature environment, the battery may not be fully charged. There are 3 different ways to monitor battery usage: 1. Check the Battery Status LED located on the right side of the laptop. Blue indicates a fully charged battery Blinking LED indicates a low battery (10%) Blinking orange indicates very low battery (5%) 2. The Battery Status icon located on the taskbar. 3. The low battery warning message displayed on screen. You need to continue to charge it with the AC adaptor plugged in until the charging LED turns blue. Warning: Always use the AC adapter and power cord included with this package. Using a replacement may result in damage to your Unobook. Note: The system will not charge the battery when the temperature exceeds 40 degrees Celsius. 4

5 Middletown Public Schools The MobiLab Laptop Cart The laptop carts are locked with a key. Be sure to keep keys in a secure area while you are using the cart. The building administration is responsible for management of the key(s). It is imperative that we all follow protocol at all times when using the laptops. We must all work together to support continued access and proper working order of the laptops. The cart needs to be plugged into an electrical outlet whenever the laptops are being used or are being charged. All maintenance issues must be recorded in the maintenance log. Each teacher is responsible for submitting work orders for laptops that are not working during their session with the laptops (include the laptop name/number and the name of the cart in the work order). It would be a good idea to put a note or printed copy of the work order on the laptop. Please be sure the maintenance log remains with the cart at all times. When carts are not in use and when they are being moved from room to room, be sure the carts are locked. Whenever possible, the laptop cart should be plugged in. There is to be no food or drink near the laptops or carts. A default printer is set up for the laptops. The elementary school default printer is located in the computer lab. The middle school and high school default printer is located in the library. Users can add their own printer. Troubleshooting Troubleshooting activity should only be performed by an adult. Your Unobook has been fully tested and complies with the system specifications before shipping. However, incorrect operations and/or mishandling may cause problems. You may also encounter simple setup or operating problems that can be solved by considering the following suggestions. If the problem persists, please put in a work order. Make sure the AC adapter is properly plugged into the Unobook and a wall outlet. Check to see if the power indicator of the Unobook is on. Check to see if your keyboard is operational by pressing and holding any key. Make sure all devices connected to the external ports are plugged in properly. You can also remove these devices to eliminate them as the source of the problem. Some software programs may cause problems during your routine use. Please put in a work order if you have any software problems. 5

6 Power LED is lit but PC does not boot Hold the power button for a FULL 15 seconds to reset the device. NOTE, it may look like it is shut down when it is only asleep if the button is held long enough. Removing the battery can also be used to reset the device. When putting the battery back into position, be sure: a. the white battery release button is in the lock position b. put outer edge of battery in first in first c. Push inner side down to snap in place Laptop Will Not Power Up 1. Plug the Unobook into the AC adaptor/power cord provided. Make sure you plug it into an electrical outlet also 2. If the Unobook still won t power up while plugged into AC adaptor/power cord, try pulling the battery, for 2 minutes. Replace battery and then try again while connected to the AC adaptor/power cord. 3. If the Unobook still won t power up, try using an AC Adaptor/power cord from the same brand/model Unobook to determine if the AC Adaptor/power cord is defected This will help direct your work order. Warning: Always use the AC adapter and power cord included with this package. Using a replacement may result in damage to your Unobook. Will Not Log In/No Network Access 1. Retype your user account and password. Make sure the CAPS LOCK is off. Make sure there is no space after your username. 2. Check to see if the wireless Blue light is on. A solid blue light indicates that the laptop is connecting to the network access point. Pressing the FN + F1 key turns the wireless on and off 3. If you still cannot log on or still do not have network/internet access, a. connect the Unobook to the network via a blue network cable, and try logging on and leave connected for at least 30 minutes. Waiting 30 minutes will allow for any updates to be installed. b. After 30 minutes, disconnect network cable. 6

7 Laptop Will Not Wake Up 1. Try pushing the space bar. 2. If the power light is on, but the screen remains dark, try moving the mouse around to wake up the laptop. 3. Press the power button. 4. Shut down and restart the laptop. Unobook is slow at startup/log on 1. This could be due to the Unobook being updated. Please let the updates install and follow any screen prompts. Sound Issues Low or No Volume 1. Check to see if the volume is on by clicking the speaker icon on the taskbar 2. Pressing the Fn + F4 keys turns the volume down Fn + F5 turns volume up Fn + F3 mutes/unmutes. Lock or Unlock Screen Orientation 1. Swipe the screen from right to left to access the Settings Option 2. Click on Screen Option 3. Click on Screen Icon to lock or unlock screen orientation Can Not Change Screen Orientation 1. In order to change back the screen orientation, with the laptop open, rotate the laptop towards you slowly. Word Prediction Feature Will Not Work From the On-Screen keyboard in Word On the onscreen keyboard, click on the Options button. 2. Check off Use Text Prediction 3. Check off Insert space after predicted words 4. Hit OK. Will Not Shut Down Completely Turn off the laptop manually by holding the power button down until the laptop shuts off. 7
