3 Survey Status Final draft of paper (Melnyk, Peters and Sullivan) submitted to NDIA Mfg Division for approval Upon approval, paper sent to NDIA for release (target March 2010) Path Forward Publish findings in appropriate defense journals. Target journals National Defense and Supply Chain Management Develop 4 or 5 key conclusions/points for paper Present findings at appropriate defense conferences Work with NDIA to address issues/concerns raised top issues for 2011? 3

8 Non-Value Added Costs of Doing Business with the Government /DOD Mission Statement to be reworded with cost reduction slant Create awareness of issues that increase government spending and usage of taxpayer dollars as a result of increased costs of doing business with the government when compared to the private sector. 8

Due to limited time and resources, the group s goal is to create awareness in targeted areas, not to develop specific solutions. In addition, the group will submit an article to National Defense magazine for publication. 10

14 Mission: Trusted Supply Chain Sub-Committee The Trusted Supply Chain Sub-Committee was formed to elevate the discussion of the critical need for a Trusted Supply Chain for vital Government programs thereby ensuring the systems performance when needed, as needed Priorities: Produce a clear discussion framework for the cost and benefits of having trusted components based upon a cost-of-quality model Create and manage a web-based supply chain information portal specifically dealing with defense-related issues and initiatives Begin work to develop a supply chain audit instrument that can be used to assess supply chain risks and to quantify the cost benefits of improving supply chain trust 14

15 Trusted Supply Chain Sub-Committee 2011 Deliverables: 1. Create a cost-of-trust tool based on cost-of-quality methods 2. Launch a Trusted Supply Chain internet-based information portal 3. Author, and get published, an article on the importance of Trust with manufactured military systems 15

18 Supply Chain Network Committee Mission: To promote the development of a more robust Defense Industrial Base and Supply Chain Network Process in order to increase the strength, diversity and efficiency of the Defense Manufacturing Enterprise in support of the Warfighter Priorities: 1. Raise awareness in selected 2 burning platform issues 2. Raise awareness of findings in SME survey 3. Committee/Division engage DARPA manufacturing initiatives 18
