1 Short Term Career Opportunities The principal objective of The Kenya School of Monetary Studies (KSMS) is to build capacity for the financial sector in Kenya and the region. The School operates a conference centre as part of the support functions in achieving this objective. The school hereby invites applications from suitably qualified and self-motivated candidates to fill the following positions in the conference centre for a period of 3 months. I. SERVICE SECTION a) Waiters /Waitress On entry to duty, clean and dust rooms by clearing tables, wiping trolleys, condiments, ménages, silverware, crockery etc. Provide food and drinks service on tables and stations allocated. Ensuring prompt and efficient service for guest satisfaction. Cleaning the dining room, restaurant or lounge before, during and after service. Study and understand the menus being served. Control the processing of the orders, ensuring that all items are served correctly. Ensure the speedy delivery of room service orders. Co-ordinate the clearing of trays. Previous work experience as a waiter/waitress in a busy hotel College qualifications in hospitality Flexible to work in alternate shifts Good communication skills Very presentable with excellent customer service skills Knowledge of various cuisines and drinks b) Barman Operating a bar within the limits of established policies and procedures and ensuring that guest needs are satisfied. Present drink menus, make specific recommendations and answer questions regarding beverages. Assist in the restocking and replenishment of bar inventory and supplies. Replenishes fridges and coolers according to established par stocks. Serve drinks, snacks or food items to customers seated at the bar Arrange bottles and glasses to make attractive display. Plan, organize, and control the operations of a cocktail lounge or bar.

2 Ensures cleanliness of the bar equipment and tools throughout the day. Refills of patrons sitting on the counter to encourage more sales and ensure waiters do likewise on the terraces. Operate and take care of the music system in the bar outlets. Advice your immediate supervisor on slow moving items Diploma or certification in Hospitality management or its equivalent with formal bartending training. Knowledge of liquor brands, beer, wine, champagne, non-alcoholic beverages, designated glassware, preparation methods and garnishments. Alcohol awareness and knowledge of responsible service. Minimum of 2 year experience in the same position from a reputable restaurant and or 4 or 5 star hotel property. Strong communication skills in English (verbal, listening, writing) Good understanding of the Hotel Industry standards, policies and procedures Eager to learn & progress, responsible with the willingness to take ownership. II. PRODUCTION SECTION a) Assistant Cooks To prepare, cook and serve a range of dishes having regard to quantity as appropriate for the number of guests attending. To support the chef to plan seasonal menus, researching ideas and offering suggestions for dishes to include. To maintain accurate and up to date records relevant to the kitchen To assist the cook in the preparation and cooking of meals Helps to maintain established standards of sanitation, safety and food preparation and storage as per laid standards. Performs other duties, as assigned. Certificate or Diploma in food production or similar. Any additional training/certificates- e.g. ISO, HACAP will be an added advantage Minimum experience of 3 years and partly as an institutional cook Current Medical Certificate 3 relevant references in the specified field

3 b) Kitchen Stewards Adhere to all sanitation guidelines Assist the cook and servers as necessary Dispose of waste Ensure all items are clean and maintains an organized work area Record all breakages Clean all soiled items Other duties as assigned by the supervisor At least O-level education Experience working in a busy kitchen III. HOUSE KEEPING SECTION a) Room Steward Makes up guestrooms and adjacent areas Ensures availability of guest supplies and amenities in the rooms Ensures economic and appropriate use of equipment and materials Collects guest laundry from the guest rooms Reports any unusual event in the area of work e.g. sick guest Answers both external and internal telephone calls in accordance to the hotel telephone handling standards Report any equipment failures and pass any maintenance information to the supervisor Perform any other duties and projects as may be assigned from time to time Similar experience would be an added asset Relevant Hospitality Course Must be neat, professional and well groomed Must possess good organizational /time management skills b) Laundry Operator Ensure that linen/clothes are being cleaned properly. Ensure appropriate separation and selection of the program and detergents. Responsible for dry cleaning of guest laundry and staff uniforms. Marking and sorting all guest laundry. Check guest clothing for tears, faded colors or missing buttons and then reports any damages. Good housekeeping is maintained at his/her place of work at all times. Inspect clothes before dispatch.

4 Receiving/ charging guest laundry. Proper records are maintained of the linen/clothes received and issued Ensure all machines are in good working condition and report any anomalies to the supervisor. At least O level education Be Holder of a certificate or diploma in Housekeeping and laundry course Two or three years of experience in laundry operations IV. FRONT OFFICE SECTION Receptionist/Cashier Key Responsibilities To undertake front of house duties, including meeting, greeting and attending to the needs of guests, to ensure a superb customer service experience. To build a good rapport with all guests and resolve any complaints/issues quickly to maintain high quality customer service. To deal with guest requests to ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay. To assist in dealing with customer complaints in an effective and courteous manner, providing or seeking solutions as quickly as possible. To be responsible for accurate and efficient accounts and guest billing processes. To assist in keeping the hotel reception area clean and tidy at all times. Receive all cash from all revenue centers and make a summary as at the closing of the trading day. To undertake general office duties, including correspondence, s, filing and switchboard, to ensure the smooth running of the reception area. To administer all routes of reservations to ensure that room bookings are made and recorded accurately. To ensure that all reservations and cancellations are processed efficiently. Ensures that there is adequate change money for the daily operation Do all the cashiering activities as per the set the procedures. To undertake any other reasonable duties directed as by the management. Diploma in Hotel Management or related business management course from a reputable institution. Good administrative skills and the ability to use and booking systems. Excellent communication skills.
