1 St Stanislaus College NEWSLETTER (02) December 2015 From the Head of College Christmas Wishes As this is the final Newsletter for Term 4 and the 2015 school year, I wish all Stannies staff, students, families and friends a very safe and happy Christmas holiday period Preparation Staff News The College has farewelled Mr Liam Callaghan to take up a teaching position at Kinross Wolaroi, Orange. We wish Mr Callaghan all the best as he embarks on this new role. Mr Steven Cooke has also been farewelled to take up new challenges and we wish him all the best. The College is grateful for the assistance that Miss Grace Piol and Mr John Garretty have provided to the teaching faculties in the second part of the 2015 school year during which time they took up temporary placements. We wish Grace and John all the best for the future. The College will be welcoming back at the commencement of the school year Ms Brittana Hardwick as she returns from Maternity Leave. The College will be welcoming the following new teaching staff at the beginning of the 2016 school year: Mrs Linda Zarczynski - Science Mrs Danielle Whyte - HSIE / RE Mr Jack English - HSIE / PDHPE We look forward to formally welcoming these teachers to our College community on 27 th January. Year Coordinators There will be six Year Coordinators at the College for Years 7 to 12. After your son s Tutor, the Year Coordinator is your next point of contact. For 2016 the Year Coordinators are as follows: Year 7: Ms Victoria Roth Year 10: Ms Kate Bonny Year 8: Mrs Alex Clements Year 11: Mr Brendan Kleinschafer Year 9: Mr Phil Lewis Year 12: Mr Ian Greet is a vital communication tool that is used by the College and it is important for all families to keep their contact details up to date. If you have moved, changed your phone number, mobile number or , please contact the College Registrar at registrar@stannies.com with these changes. Holiday Office Hours The College Office is open from 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday until 23 rd December The College will re-open on Monday 4 th January 2016 at 8.30am.. Facilities Preparations Apart from extensive spring cleaning that is taking place in preparation for the return of students, there is additional work currently taking place at the College. This will be most obvious at the main entrance with a new disabled ramp being installed. A number of teaching areas will undergo face-lifts with new carpet and reverse cycle air conditioning will be installed in the five Science Labs. New tiered seating will be installed on the No. 1 Oval and continued improvements will be made to the trees and gardens at the far end of the PAC. 2 Uniform Shop The Uniform Shop will be open from 9am to 3.30pm Monday and Thursday during school term time. The Uniform Shop will be open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday from 11 th January to allow families to purchase their uniform requirements for the coming year. Prior to moving directly to the Uniform Shop, please proceed to the Business Office in the first instance, as the Uniform Shop is not staffed unless there is a need for a staff member to be actively serving customers. All students are required to return to school in summer uniform which includes the College tie. All students need to have dress uniform, as this is worn on special occasions and is essentially the uniform worn during winter. Dress uniform includes the blazer. The Uniform Shop has some secondhand items for sale. Families wanting to sell used clothing should be aware that the Shop will only accept items in good to very good condition. We would like to expand the second hand uniform stock and invite all families to consider donating uniform items or submitting them for re-sale. Items for re-sale would need to have been cleaned, washed and pressed as appropriate in readiness for sale. The only items which will be sold secondhand will be blazers, jumpers, uniform shorts, uniform trousers, uniform tracksuits and uniform shirts. Persons wanting to leave items for donation or for sale should contact Mrs Michelle Bringolf, Uniform Shop Coordinator, on to discuss. To facilitate the needs of new boarding students and their families, the Uniform Shop will be open from 10am to 12.30pm on Tuesday 26 th January. On Wednesday 27 th January, the Uniform Shop will open from 9am to 4pm for parents of day students and returning boarding students. We hope that these hours assist our families. Fees The first fees accounts for 2016 will be sent to families during the first week of January The College relies on prompt payment of fees from all families. Where there is difficulty in meeting fees obligations, it is critical that this is discussed with the College Accountant, Mrs Gail Willis, so that an appropriate arrangements can be organised. There is a Fees Assistance Application Form that must be completed as part of this process. I ask too, that families who have outstanding arrears make contact to discuss a way forward. No student will have his enrolment jeopardised through a family s inability to meet fees commitments, an appropriate arrangement can always be worked out that reflects family circumstances. The difficulty arises when a family does not make contact and the College is thus not clear whether the situation is one of inability to pay or unwillingness to meet financial obligations. The latter will be followed up vigorously in fairness to all families who ensure their fees commitments are met. Please ensure when making fees payment to always quote your family number as a reference. This will ensure that the payment can be allocated correctly to the relevant family account and therefore not result in a payment which remains unallocated because it is unable to be identified. College Newsletter 2016 Throughout the 2015 school year, the College has produced fewer printed copies of the weekly Newsletter and instead utilised online distribution channels. In the 2016 school year, copies will only be produced for the counter at the Front Office and Boarding Centre. The Newsletter will be distributed via the College website, the College Facebook page and also ed to parents. Please check our website often to stay informed about activities and announcements from Stannies. P&F News The P&F Committee now has a dedicated address. The P&F Committee can be contacted via StanniesPandF@gmail.com Please feel free to make contact with the P&F about matters including Autumn Food and Fun Fair, parent involvement and information sessions. The P&F welcomes your feedback and ideas. Please note that this address is only to be utilised for P&F related matters. For all other College matters established College communication channels should be used. The P&F is busy planning for the Food and Fun Fair to be held on Sunday 13 th March There will be lots of food stalls and entertainment for all the family. Over the holiday period, please give some thought to how you might be able to assist - whether that be on the day by assisting on a stall or whether it be by donating items for various stalls. The No. 1 Oval will be alive with Zorb Ball which is a new activity this year and the Dunking Machine will make a return! The Fair would not be possible without the support of our parents, so please contact Mrs Chris Tobin on or to discuss how you can help. An update from the President of the P&F Committee is included in this Newsletter. Boarding Information Planning is taking place for the new boarding students arriving at the College on Tuesday 26 th January and returning boarders arriving on Wednesday 27 th January. These are planned and scheduled so that we come together as a College community sometimes in prayer, other times in sporting activities, other times in social events but always in a spirit of joy and celebration. I ask that parents support the College in this expectation. We do not want to see any student exclude himself or cut himself off from such occasions. The compulsory occasions for Term 1, 2016 are our Swimming Carnival - 3 rd February and Opening Mass - 9 th February and Excursion Week 2 nd to 4 th March. Semester 2, 2015 Reports Included with this mailing are the Semester 2 Reports for Years 7 to 10 students. I look forward to welcoming families, friends and staff in 2016 for another successful year of educating Stannies men. With my best wishes for the holiday period. Dr Anne Wenham Head of College From the President of the P&F Association The P&F would like to thank all the wonderful parents, grandparents, students, families and friends who have volunteered at College activities throughout the year. Your contribution throughout the year is greatly appreciated by the P&F, the staff and most especially the boys at Stannies. We would also like to express our thanks and gratitude to all who attended events at the College throughout the year to support your son s education and learning. Events such as the Year 7 Welcome BBQ, The Autumn Fair, Mother s Day Mass, Father s Day Mass, family Golf Day, sporting fixtures, musicals and plays, the art exhibition, excursions, parent teacher interviews, Speech Night and Carols in the Chapel. Your involvement helps to enrich the fantastic school spirit that we enjoy at Stannies. Research proves that a parent s involvement in their child s education and school positively impacts on their learning and value of their schooling. Autumn Food and Fun Fair Planning is well underway for next year s Autumn Food and Fun Fair to be held on Sunday March 13. In 2016 there will be a big focus on food stalls. You can look forward to a much wider range of food on offer at the Autumn Food and Fun Fair next year. There will be new food stalls including hot chips, hamburgers, pizza, donuts, kebabs, hot corn on cob and more. If you have any ideas for a food stall or any stalls or activities, your input and help at the Autumn Food and Fun Fair is most welcome. The more parents and friends we have involved at the Autumn Food and Fun Fair the more successful the event will be. If you can assist in any way, big or small - please contact the P and F at; stanniespandf@gmail.com or phone Chris Tobin. Ph: or New Initiatives Some initiatives from the P&F this year include creating the Stannies P&F address; stanniespandf@gmail.com as another means of the College community communicating with the P&F. We have created a Stannies postcard using the winning images St Stanislaus College Page 3 Head of College Holiday Circular, December 2015
