1 Unit #5 Lesson #1: Polygons and Their Angles. Polygons are figures created from segments that do not intersect at any points other than their endpoints. A polygon is convex if all of the interior angles have measure less than 180. A polygon that is not convex is concave. Naming Polygons Number of Sides Name 3 triangle 4 quadrilateral 5 pentagon 6 hexagon 7 heptagon 8 octagon 9 nonagon 10 decagon n ngon Theorem: The sum of the interior angles of a convex polygon with n sides is (n 2)180. Theorem: The sum of the exterior angles of a convex polygon is 360. In a regular polygon all sides are congruent and all angles are congruent. Exploration: 1. Draw a polygon with congruent sides, but not congruent angles. 2. Draw a polygon with congruent angles, but not congruent sides. Examples: 1. Find the measure of the largest angle in the polygon below. (12x + 21) (9x) (13x  10) (5x + 33) (8x  6) (15x) 2. Find the measure of an interior angle of a regular pentagon. 3. Find the measure of an exterior angle in a polygon where the ratio of interior to exterior angles is 3:1.
