Case study: Adam Cooper (Children s Centre Manager, Greets Green Children s Centre, Sandwell) After finishing university in 2003 I was undecided what to do next. My course had resulted in me working as a manager for a car rental company, a job which I didn t enjoy. I wanted to do something that I found more rewarding. As a student I had worked with children on a temporary basis in nurseries and playschemes in Sandwell and really enjoyed it. I was unsure how this would become a career though. I saw a job advertised for a Development Worker, working for Sandwell Early Years and Childcare Team. Although I wasn t quite sure what the job was all about I applied and was lucky enough to become part of a team responsible for supporting Early Years and Childcare settings across the whole of Sandwell. I became involved with Children s Centres and was really impressed with the work they did. As a result I was lucky enough to become a Children s Centre Manager in Birmingham. I have recently returned to Sandwell as Manager of Greets Green Children s Centre in West Bromwich. I don t work with children as much as I used to but I find the work our centre does with children and families extremely challenging and rewarding and I m really glad that I am not selling cars anymore!
