2 Wake Tech HEP Program Structure Closed enrollment Trimester system (Classes weeks) Instruction 12 hours/week Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 6-10pm Three GED subjects per class Set testing schedule Set curriculum based on testing schedule

3 Why is a set curriculum important? 1) Benefits students 2) Benefits instructors 3) Benefits program

4 A set curriculum benefits students 1) Students benefit from consistency and continuity 2) Students are part of the same cohort and develop bonds with their classmates 3) If students miss class or know they will be absent, it is easy to give them a makeup plan to follow 4) Students are able to adapt their work and personal schedules to their class calendar

5 A set curriculum benefits instructors 1) Uniform instruction simplifies class planning 2) Closed enrollment keeps everyone on the same page 3) Instructor s Notebook tells new and part-time instructors as well as substitute instructors exactly what to do 4) Instructors receive all class copies the day of orientation

6 A set curriculum benefits program 1) Students have a sense of class pride and encourage each other 2) Instructors are able to focus more on the individual needs of the students 3) Completion rate (GPRA 1) is higher because students perform better on the Official GED Tests
