2 Over the last twenty- five years the global distribution of production for clothing, textiles and footwear industries has shifted considerably, with new making economies emerging. Producing Fashion Made in Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City will explore how fashion is produced and consumed, drawing attention to practices of manufacture and entrepreneurship. The event will include conversations and presentations about making economies such as Vietnam, and seek out different perspectives from local and global networks from new entrepreneurs, local practitioners, government agencies, artists, craftspeople, academiapostgraduates, researchers and others. Overview of Program The program is designed to open up conversations about opportunities for fashion in Vietnam. Each day explores a different theme inviting participants to contribute through formal presentations, world caféstyle events and informal get-togethers. At night, there will be various dinner party options to encourage lively discussion and sampling of local food. There will be opportunities to visit local designers and manufacturers. Morning sessions will be held at RMIT University, District 7. Afternoon sessions will be in a scholarly café style at various locations across Ho Chi Minh. DAY 2 Connecting with Industry (Wednesday, 6 July) What is different about producing in Vietnam? How can designers work with the unique manufacturing opportunities that Vietnam offers? How is manufacturing changing to meet the demands of the creative economy? DAY 3 Growing the Future (Thursday, 7 July) How do we support emerging designers in Vietnam? How can education contribute to the growth of the local design and manufacturing industry?

3 Day 1 Creativity (Tuesday, 5 July 2016) What are the opportunities for Vietnam as an emerging creative economy? What does fashion look like in Vietnam? 9:00-9:10 Welcome to Guests & Opening Professor Gael McDonald (President of RMIT University, Vietnam) and Professor Robyn Healy (Head of School, RMIT University, Melbourne, School of Fashion and Textiles) welcome officially open Producing Fashion: Made in Vietnam Fashion Colloquia and welcome attendees to the event. 9:10-10:40 Panel: Producing Fashion: Made in Vietnam Continuing in the Fashion Colloquia series, originated through a core network of four institutions, this panel introduces the event and the conversations and presentations within it, in order to address industries such as Vietnam.Through Producing Fashion Made in Vietnam, we will explore how fashion is produced and consumed, drawing attention to practices of manufacture and entrepreneurship. This panel presentation introduces the event and brings together key figures from local and global networks that offer different perspectives in a discussion on Vietnam s role as an emerging making economy. Facilitated by Professor Robyn Healy, Head of School of Fashion and Textiles at RMIT University Melbourne in discussion that brings Professor Ian King and Professor José Teunissen from the London College of Fashion alongside key local industry figures Trần Nguyễn Thiên Hương, Chairwoman of Sunflower Media, Christina Yu, Founder of Ipa-Nima, Matthew Roach of Parca Equipment Co., designed and manufactured between Melbourne and Vietnam, Võ Thị Bích Ngọc, Business Development Director at Zalora and Tran Thien Ha Mi, a Freelance Fashion Show Director. The discussion will conclude with the launch of the 36 Hour Shirt Challenge where participants are invited to explore different methods for sourcing a shirt designed and made in Vietnam, from workshops, local tailors, retail outlets, and visits to local markets. Le Thi Quynh Trang - chairwoman, Multimedia JSC. 11:30-12:30 Panel: 'Twenty Years of Vietnamese Fashion' Facilitated by Trần Nguyễn Thiên Hương, this panel discussion brings together leading figures in Vietnam s fashion industry, from fashion designers Hoang Hai, Sy Hoang and Minh Hanh with Le Thi Quynh Trang, CEO of Multimedia JSC, organisers of Vietnam International Fashion Week. 4 Day 2 Industry day (Wednesday, 6 July 2016) What is different about producing in Vietnam? How can designers work with the unique manufacturing opportunities that Vietnam offers? How is manufacturing changing to meet the demands of the creative economy? 9:00-10:00 Keynote Presentation: New Models of Craft Working with New Materials LanVy Nguyen, Founder and Managing Director of Fashion4Freedom, the first socially responsible, ethical and transparent supply-chain, will present her vanguard work related to social enterprise and the evolution of traditional crafts into contemporary practice in Vietnam. 10:00-10:30 Keynote Presentation: Out of Vietnam' Dr Tran Van Quyen, Textile Consultant for Woolmark Vietnam, will present on the Australian Wool Innovation project Out of Vietnam, which is developing a sustainable local supply chain and in turn expanding its current manufacturing market by introducing Australian wool into the pipeline. 10:30-10:50 Tea break 10:50-11:20 Keynote Presentation: Material and Specialised Production Do Son Duong, Brand Strategy Director of Thien Hong, Vietnam, will deliver a presentation on material and specialised production in Vietnam. 11:20-12:20 Panel: The Changing Face of Vietnam s Fashion Industry Facilitated by Victoria Ho, Head of Fashion at RMIT University Vietnam, this panel discussion brings together leading figures from the various facets from Vietnamese fashion to identify the key characteristics and issues facing this industry. How can education contribute to the growth of the local design and manufacturing industry? 9:00-10:00 Panel: The Role of Education - Jobs of the Future Rebecca Morris, Senior Educator, RMIT University Vietnam, leads a discussion on the role of education in fostering a more innovative, dynamic and sustainable fashion industry in Vietnam and abroad.
