2 WORKSHOP LEADER S GUIDE (2 3 hur frmat) This Wrkshp Leader s Guide will prvide suggestins fr cnducting a successful wrkshp. It s especially designed fr thse facilitating their first wrkshp. A wrkshp is aimed at equipping in 3 basic areas: I. Why we shuld seek t share ur faith II. Hw t start a spiritual cnversatin III. Hw t share a simple clear explanatin f the Gspel Participants will be mre inspired, better equipped and prgressively intentinal in sharing their faith. Flexible The wrkshp can be dne in ne r several sessins. It will take between 2-3 hurs ttal depending n discussins, time allwed fr rle plays, demnstratins and the use f any ptinal material. Allwing between minutes fr each f the 3 areas wrks well. Welcme Facilitating a JOHN 3:16 Gd News made simple! Wrkshp Gal: Yu will be mre inspired, better equipped and increasingly intentinal in sharing yur faith. General Overview: I. Biblical basis fr why we shuld share ur faith. II. Becming mre effective in starting a spiritual cnversatin, and III. Hw t explain the Gspel in a clear and simple way using Jhn 3:16, the mst familiar verse in the Bible. Prayer 1

(30-55 min.) *The key t this sectin is t mtivate and inspire participants t jin Gd in expanding His kingdm. *When we clearly understand Gd s WHY, He will cmpel us t find a way t d it. 4 (pp. 3-4) STARTING A SPIRITUAL CONVERSATION (35 55 min.) *This is ne f the mst challenging aspects f witnessing. Dn t rush thrugh this sectin. These ntes will help yu facilitate discussin t discver everyday pprtunities t glrify Gd in ur cnversatins. Gd Stries stries telling hw Gd has made a difference in yur life G ver the Hw Gd bullet pints listed. Then have participants write dwn respnses t this questin: Hw has Gd made a difference in yur life in what ways has yur relatinship with Jesus affected yu? Likely respnses (tpics) will be: A sense f peace Lved r mre lving twards thers Being frgiving Nt afraid f death Helped with (marriage, finances, ther needs, etc.) Able t be mre disciplined Overcame bad habits/pwer t change Mre cnfident r secure Greater sense f purpse in life Mre patient r frgiving Real jy r happiness Next ask participants t pick ut 1 difference Gd has made frm their list and identify a specific event r situatin when that was real in their life; when they experienced this first hand, e.g. Example: Real situatin: A yung mther - I m mre patient Gd has helped me be mre patient with my sn, Jshua. Helping him with his hmewrk had been quite a challenge. I used t get s frustrated; I yelled a lt. But Gd has been helping me. He s reminded me f hw patient He s been with me thrugh the years. And it s helped me be mre patient with Jshua. *It desn t need t be smething dramatic, just a clear indicatin Gd is making a difference. (Pair up) Have participants pair up. Each picks ne f the differences Gd has made and share an event r situatin shwing hw that was real in their life. (Grup Interactin) Next yu will bring t light the cmmn pprtunities the Hly Spirit prvides t share Gd Stries during everyday cnversatins. 3

5 Ask smene t briefly share ne f their Gd Stries After they share, ask the grup, Hw many f yu can identify with the basic tpic/cncept? (e.g. patience r, peace during a difficult time) Then discuss when and hw that tpic/cncept culd be used as a Gd Stry in everyday cnversatins with friends, c-wrkers, assciates, at schl, etc. Ask, What might ur friends r assciates bring up in cnversatin that might lead us t share a Gd Stry f this nature? Ask several thers t share a Gd Stry again asking wh identifies with it and, when and hw it might cme up in everyday cnversatin. What might ur friends and assciates cmment abut that might lead us t share a Gd Stry f this nature? *The gal is t help participants becme mre aware f cmmn pprtunities the Hly Spirit prvides us t share a Gd Stry thereby bringing Gd int a cnversatin and a means t start talking abut spiritual matters. *We need t be intentinal, seeking the Hly Spirit t guide us, watching fr these pprtunities and telling thers hw Gd is real in ur lives. Briefly read thrugh the sectin, Pay attentin t hw thers respnd In the next sectin, As yu sense the Hly Spirit prmpting yu, take the initiative t ask: pint ut the suggested ways t transitin frm a Gd Stry t asking permissin t share the Gd News Have participants pair up and practice asking each ther if they had ever heard f the verse Jhn 3:16, and ask permissin t share what they discvered abut the verse. (It desn t have t be wrd-fr-wrd, have them say it in their wn wrds. It always helps t practice and actually hear what it sunds like cming ut r ur wn muths.) (Optinal r self-study material) Value Questins As time permits, talk thrugh this sectin. *The Value Questins help t identify what is imprtant r significant in a persn s life. They help us get t knw thers better. *And asking hw their lives might change if they knew mre abut Gd r if He were mre a part f their life will bring Gd int the cnversatin. G ver the Pssible transitins and Other ptins. (Discuss r cmment as time permits. They can study this mre n their wn r cnsider making this part f future training.) (p.5) *Suggestin: Prvide each participant a partially filled ut WORKSHEET (see last page; nly has Jhn 3:16 and bxes with LIFE, WORLD, GOD, SON, BELIEVES, Review, Respnse). Or have them draw it ut n a blank piece f paper. They will use these like an utline, adding a few fcus wrds in each apprpriate bx t remind them what they will want t talk abut when explaining the Gspel. Pint ut the 5 Key Wrds in Jhn 3:16 we ll fcus n t mre fully explain the Gspel LIFE WORLD GOD SON BELIEVES Pint ut the 5 Key lead-in Questins (als in the REVIEW sectin p. 16) Optin: Have participants write the lead-in questins abve and/r belw the apprpriate bx, i.e. What des Gd want us t experience? (LIFE) What keeps us frm experiencing it? (WORLD) Hw des Gd feel abut this? (GOD) Hw did Gd slve ur sin prblem? (SON) Hw d we begin experiencing real life? (BELIEVES) Pint ut that we ll be using each f these key wrds as key cncepts r talking pints t mre fully explain the Gspel. Nte regarding pp. 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14: These pages are meant t be interactive. Instead f simply telling participants the answers, use these pages t help them discver insightful truths t talk abut when explaining each sectin r talking pint. Suggestin: yu can d the fllwing sectins as a large grup r change it up by having them wrk thrugh several sectins in small grups r pairs. Demnstratins: Cnsider ding several brief demnstratins thrughut and/r ne at the end. *Ask participants NOT t peek ahead as the suggested answers are n the back f each page (p.6) What des Gd want us t experience? (Ask rhetrically) LIFE Wrk thrugh the questins prvided. Have participants identify a few significant fcus wrds t write n their wrksheet that remind them (like an utline) f truths they will want t specifically share when talking abut LIFE, e.g. eternal tells us a lt abut what Gd wants us t experience. Reminds us we were created t live frever (Q1) Frever in heaven r hell (Q2 & Q3) Reminds us f the life He wants fr us nw t (Q4 and/r Q5) abundant life, life t the full the fruit f Gd s Spirit 5

7 Ask the grup what fcus wrds they wrte n their wrksheet in the LIFE bx t remind them f what they want t specifically share abut LIFE what Gd wants us t experience. T summarize: Gd wants t make a difference in ur lives tday and frever in heaven. Pint ut that during ur practice time, they will use their wrksheets as a guide (utline) in sharing the Gspel. (It will help them frm wandering; staying fcused n each key talking pint.) (p.7) *Prvides ptinal suggestins and verses fr the LIFE sectin. It s a gd page t encurage participants t study further after the wrkshp.. (p.8) What keeps us frm experiencing this LIFE? WORLD (sin) Leader s ntes: 1. The main pint is fr this sectin is the seriusness f SIN. 2. Als, sme fcus wrds are apprpriate in mre than ne sectin and may seem t be redundant. Hwever, it s OK t be repetitive as it helps in learning and t emphasize imprtant truths f the Gspel. When sharing, yu can always chse what t repeat and emphasize. Again, wrk thrugh the questins. Have participants nte wrds in the Wrld bx f their wrksheet t fcus them n significant truths they will want t specifically share abut the WORLD (us). whever pints t peple, nt things. He is hly, perfect and just and therefre sin must be punished perfectly. Have participants pair up and using their wrksheets, explain the Gspel t each ther. Remind them t use the wrksheet like an utline, using whichever fcus wrds they chse t mre fully explain the message f Jhn 3:16. 8
