The Kiltwalk will lead positive social change by delivering fundraising events that inspire communities to come together and raise funds for vulnerable children.

The Kiltie Volunteer Programme recruits up to 2000 motivated and vibrant individuals, to support in the delivery of the Kiltwalk fundraising events across Scotland every year. The Kilties are undoubtedly the most critical element of the Kiltwalk event days, adding the magic and providing the Kiltwalks with the electric community atmosphere that they have become so well known for. The Kiltwalks are a series of unique walking events in Scotland that act as a powerful fundraising mechanism, allowing walkers to generate big sums of money for the vital charities and local causes of their choosing. This year, it is estimated that together we will touch the lives of over 150, 000 children across Scotland. Sir Tom Hunter and the Hunter Foundation have underwritten the events and have identified it as a catalyst for positive change. Their involvement amplifies the Kiltwalk s social impact by enabling 100% of your sponsorship money to go directly to Scotland s children who need it most. The 2016 walking events take place in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Speyside and Edinburgh and have been designed for everyone, offering a variety of walking distances for all ages and ability levels. Similarly, our volunteer opportunities have something for everyone* across the nine Kiltie role types available at our four events on these dates: Glasgow Sunday 24 th April Aberdeen Sunday 5 th June Speyside Sunday 14 th August Edinburgh Sunday 18 th September * All Kiltie volunteers need to be 16 years and over at the time of application.

There are many reasons for getting involved in the Kiltie Volunteer Programme. Depending on what type of organisation you are, we have listed some of the potential benefits to you and your audience. 7

Here is a quick insight into the people who volunteered their time at the Kiltwalk events throughout 2015 and some interesting information to consider when promoting the Kilties programme to your audience. 71% Female Average age 44 Over 4500 hours contributed in 2015 Youngest Kiltie 16 Oldest Kiltie 84 Improve CV Want to contribute but unable to walk the route Have fun Make friends Positive effect on health Gain experience Passion for volunteering

To get your volunteer recruitment started, we suggest you try the following activity and use the support materials provided in the toolkit. Organise a staff information session Put up the Kilties poster and hand out leaflets [SEE SAMPLE MATERIALS] Send to your staff database [SEE SAMPLE ] Add info regarding the Volunteer programme to your intranet / portal Include in your company newsletter Make an announcement at all internal meetings & events

Once you are ready to start telling your organisation about the Kiltie Volunteer Programme the first point of call is gathering your team together in an information session and telling them the benefits of volunteering at a Kiltwalk. During the session you should give your audience an introduction to the Kiltwalk fundraising events and to the Kiltie Volunteer Programme, provide them with the event dates and leave them with all the information they need to go ahead and apply. Our Kiltie Volunteer Team are ready and waiting to provide you with all the information and materials you need to conduct a session. Before running your session, contact our Volunteer and Staffing Manager, Daniel Howard on /

If your company or university has a portal or intranet page then we have provided some sample information on the Kilties programme for you to include. SAMPLE POST Founded in 2011, Kiltwalk has become one of the most loved ways of raising money for children s charities throughout Scotland. Now one of the fastest growing charity events in Scotland, the sponsored, kilted walks have been identified as a catalyst for positive change. Sir Tom Hunter and the Hunter Foundation have underwritten the events and their involvement amplifies the Kiltwalk s social impact by enabling 100% of the sponsorship money to go directly to Scotland s children who need it most. There are three different distances that the walkers can sign up for, the Mighty Stride (marathon 26.2 miles), a Big Stroll (1/2 marathon 13.1 miles) or a Wee Wander (10km - 6 miles). Kiltwalk has grown rapidly over the past few years and due to the increased number of walkers and size and scale of the events, The Kilties volunteering programme was launched in January 2015 to give all walkers the best possible experience. We are now on the hunt for up to 2000 enthusiastic and motivated Kilties to assist with a number of varied and exciting volunteering roles across four different events and become the heart, soul and smile behind the Kiltwalk. If you are interested in applying to volunteer for Scotland s children, please click on the following link: or for more information please

Below is a sample template for an you can send out to all potential volunteers from your organisation, university or college. Are you keen to volunteer for a worthwhile cause in 2016? There will be a number of different roles you can lend your smile and skills to from directing and cheering on the walkers who have donned their Kilts to tackle the Mighty Stride (26.2 miles) to cycling at the front of the Kiltwalk pack and leading the way for our walkers. If you are passionate about the cause, over the age of 16 and are available to attend one of Kiltwalk s event dates outlined below along with one weekend training session prior to the event you are volunteering at, our Kiltie team would love to hear from you!
