1 CCTVwindow Network Connection Quick Setup Guide This quick setup guide describes how to configure the CCTVwindow client software and either a DVR9k or an IP camera in order to connect and view pictures. Users familiar with connecting to traditional DVRs may use the mouse attached to the DVR9k to log onto it and configure it s IP address and port settings. Alternatively the DVR9k may be treated as an IP camera and configured remotely via the CCTVwindow software for use on the network. As there is no way of logging onto an IP camera directly, (it doesn t have a mouse) then camera configuration must be performed remotely via software. The last pages of this guide describe IP camera connection and configuration within the client. Logging onto the DVR9k The DVR9k is mouse controlled, plug the mouse into the USB port on the front and move the mouse to check the pointer moves. Click the right mouse button to bring up the menus and login using the DVR9k s admin username/password as follows Username = admin Password = Setting the DVR9k s IP Address If using the DVR9k s Startup wizard navigate through the setup screens until you get to network settings. If logging on manually, navigate to Menu Settings Network On the General tab, enter at least IP Address Subnet Mask Gateway (for internet access) On the Advanced tab, Host Settings, check the default data Port and HTTP Port

2 Suggested IP Address Settings The table below shows suggested settings for a DVR, the client software and a PC. If you choose to use these settings you should find that everything works from the outset. DVR Client Software PC IP Address Subnet Mask Gateway Port HTTP Port 80 Make sure you check manually the DVR, the client software and the PC in turn confirming that each is correct. Installing the Client Software Run setup.exe from the CD and select Install Client Software the whole installation process is automated so just follow the instructions and enter your name, your company name and installation key when prompted. Launching the Client Software After installing the DVR Client you will presented with the following logon screen when running the application IMPORTANT: This username/password being requested by the client software is not the same as the username/password for DVR logon. The defaults for this client are Username = admin Password =

3 Client Software Checking the IP Addresses The DVR Client is pre-configured with a default device, a DVR9K, it s IP address is set to , the data Port is 8000 and HTTP Port is 80. Caution : Using the Pre-Configured Device Entry If your device is a DVR9k then you may use the pre-configured client entry simply by setting your DVR9k s IP address to If your device is not a DVR9k (eg: it is an IP Camera or an Alien DVR instead) then you should create a new device entry as described on the following page. 1. Click on the Configure option at the top of the screen 2. Double click on the DVR9k 3. Check / Set the IP, Username, Password & Port fields 4. Click on OK to save the settings.

4 Client Software Adding a DVR or Changing the IP Addresses Once a DVR s settings are registered within the client software it is better to add a new DVR entry rather than editing the existing details. This procedure describes how add a new DVR s or an IP Camera to you client software Right click on the UK globe and select Add Device Enter a descriptive name for the device, it s IP address, the username & password required to connect to it and the data port fields Click on OK to save the settings. Note: also set the channel number, that is : the total number of camera channels the device supports. To delete a DVR from the configuration listing, right click on the UK globe and select Delete Node.

5 Adding a New Device - Detecting & Configuring Devices on the Network The client software can scan for and detect compatible devices on the network, these devices can then have their IP address and network settings configured remotely by the client for normal network use. This process uses a Scoped Address Delivery Protocol, (SADP), which is dependent upon WinPCAP being installed during the installation process. Without WinPCAP autodetection is not possible from within the client. A standalone version of SADP is installed along with the client software so this may be used as an alternative tool to detect and reconfigure network-only devices. Please note that most of our IP cameras ship with a factory default IP address of and the instructions below describe how locate and reconfigure one of these devices. Click on the Configure tab Right click on the UK globe and select Add Device Ensure that your IP camera is powered up, that the power LED is illuminated and that the network cable is plugged in.

6 Wait for the client to search the network for online devices The result opposite shows an IP camera detected on line 1, a DVR9k as yet uncategorized on line 2 Click on and highlight the device listed on line 1 then click on Modify, this will activate the network fields Enter the following fields IP address Subnet mask Device Port Then the administrator s password, Then click Save to apply the configuration changes. Finally, click on Select Device to add it into the client. When prompted to add the device, click on Ok

7 Finally enter A descriptive name to identify the device in the client window The username & password used by the client to connect to connect to the device The number of channels the device supports Click Ok to Save To view a picture from the device, return to the Preview pane & double click on the device s Channel End of Document ---
