6 Frequently Asked Questions 1. Who can participate in the audit? The audit is for small/medium commercial laundries and on-premise laundries only. Unfortunately the audit can t be offered to large commercial laundries, industrial laundries and public access laundries (laundromats). Eligible small/medium commercial laundries would typically wash up to 10 tonnes of laundry per week, and use up to 16,000 kl of water per year. Eligible on-premise laundries would wash approx. 2 tonnes of laundry per week, and use 2,000 kl of water per year. 2. Does the audit cover other areas of the facility, for example the kitchen? No, the audit is specific to the non-residential laundry activities only. 3. What does the audit involve? The audit involves a site visit from an Auditor of the. Your laundry operations, equipment and processes will be audited (water and level 1 energy audit) with a view to improving efficiency. You will receive a report with specific recommendations on how your business can become more energy and water efficient. 4. What is a water audit? A water audit collects information about your laundry s systems to see how efficient they are and identifies opportunities for improvement. Where applicable, the water audit may include the collection of real time water use through data logging. 5. What is a level 1 energy audit? The Australian Standard AS/NZS 3598:2000 defines three levels of energy audit. A level 1 energy audit provides an assessment of energy consumption of your laundry, defines initial energy benchmarks and identifies energy efficiency opportunities (with savings and costs estimated to an accuracy of 40%). Level 2 and level 3 energy audits are more comprehensive assessments that provide more accurate savings and cost estimates. 6. Can I have a more detailed energy audit? Depending upon the size and operations of your site it may be possible to allocate the subsidy of the Laundries Water Efficiency Program towards the water audit and a more detailed energy audit (i.e. level 2 energy audit). Any additional cost for the energy audit would need to be funded wholly by your business. Our Auditor will determine eligibility and cost for this service. 7. How much does the audit cost? The Laundries Water Efficiency Program provides for 88% of the cost of the audit. So your business is required to cover the remaining 12% of the audit cost. This must be paid prior to the audit commencing. Your contribution is estimated to be between $270 and $730 including GST. 8. Will there be any additional cost to the original quote? Any works outside the scope of the project including a level 2 energy audit, will be an additional cost to your company. This would be subject to an additional proposal by the.

7 9. How do I pay? The will invoice your business. Work will only proceed once payment has been received. 10. Who will undertake the audit? An experienced Senior Auditor Environment and Energy from the will conduct the audit. The Auditors have extensive experience in providing practical advice and assistance to industry on water and energy efficiency related issues. 11. How can I participate in the audit? Fill in the application form enclosed with this information pack and return it to the Australian Industry Group (address below). 12. Do I need to answer all questions in the application form to be eligible? Yes. Please answer all questions and provide all information required. If you have any questions about this, feel free to contact the Auditor (contact information below). 13. I don t have my past energy bills. What should I do? Contact your energy retailers (e.g. TRU Energy, AGL, etc) and request your consumption and cost data for the past 12 months. This data must be included in the Application. 14. I don t have my past water bills. What should I do? Give consent to your Water Authority to provide your historical water consumption data to the Auditor. We will contact your Water Authority on your behalf. 15. What is involved during the site visit? A site visit will take place to review your laundry s activities and environmental practices. A suitable representative of your business will need to accompany the Auditor during the site visit and respond to relevant questions relating to your laundry s practices. 16. What will I receive at the completion of the audit? Your laundry business will receive a report documenting the findings of the assessment. A copy of the report will also be retained by the, your Water Authority and Yarra Valley Water (who manage the Laundries Water Efficiency Program for the Victorian Water Industry). 17. How long will the Auditor be on my site? The Auditor will spend up to one business day on your site between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, depending on the size and activity of your laundry business. The day of the site visit will be determined together with you to suit your needs. 18. What is the Laundries Water Efficiency Program? The Laundries Water Efficiency Program is an initiative of the Department of Sustainability and Environment to promote water efficiency in non-residential laundries across Victoria. It was initially established during the drought. This audit is the last stage of the program. Yarra Valley Water is the Program Manager and the has been engaged as service provider.
