5 PAGE 5 HOW IT WORKS WHO CAN USE OUR SERVICES? Anyone who has taken alcohol or who does not feel up to driving. The user must have a car at the time of the call. HOW TO REACH RED NOSE VOLUNTEERS? You can reach Operation Red Outaouais Headquarters by calling AUTO ( ). The receptionist receiving the call asks your location, destination, the number of passengers and most importantly, if you have a car. The information is forwarded to the dispatch to assign a team to the call. Each team is made up of three people: the motorized escort (drives his/her vehicle), the client s driver and the partner. The user remains in his/her car and is accompanied by the partner and the driver. After reaching destination and completing the formalities, the driver parks the car as appropriate. Once the client is out of the vehicle, he/she will be given his/her keys. ARE THERE ANY COSTS INVOLVED? The services of Operation Red Nose are completely free; however, contributions provided by the clients help in funding projects for young athletes coordinated by Loisir sport Outaouais.

6 PAGE 6 SOME FACTS Operation Red Nose is a unique program dedicated against drinking and driving. Essentially, it is a volunteer driving service provided during the Holiday Season to all drivers who have been drinking or who do not feel fit to drive their own vehicle back home. It is an original and free way of getting a safe ride in our own vehicle without driving it! Volunteers must first fill out a registration form. The work shifts are from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. in the morning and from midnight to 3:30 a.m. in the morning. A volunteer may work more than one shift and on more than one evening. The team is made up of three people: the motorized escort who drives his/her own vehicle; the driver who drives the client s vehicle; and the partner who acts as the team s secretary. provides volunteers with a security patch, a badge, and a walkie-talkie. Operation Red Nose s services are entirely free; however, contributions provided by the clients help fund youth sports activities coordinated by the Loisir sport Outaouais. The service is available to clients calling from the city of Gatineau the MRC des Collines, and the city of Ottawa, specifically between Bayshore and Orléans, North of Highway 417. In the event of an accident, the Desjardins Assurances générales our provincial sponsor, insures the client s vehicle to a maximum of $45,000. The motorized escort s car is insured through the owner s insurance company. The deductible is covered by Desjardins. The Volunteer Headquarters is located at the Centre communautaire de loisir Fontaine and the Poste de police communautaire de l Ile at 120, Charlevoix Street in Gatineau, Hull section (corner of Saint-Laurent boulevard). For more information, please call at AUTO ( )

7 PAGE 7 MASCOT AVAILABLE The Red Nose mascot, sponsored by Christie & Walther Communications, is busy combing our roads and streets. To have it as your guest for your Holiday "party" or evening dinner, call AUTO ( ). Even though its visit may be short, it will see that your friends or guests know how to plan a safe return home. SAFETY OF USERS AND VOLUNTEERS uses a software application to speed up the management of information. The various modules allow us to update the volunteer data bank, manage the teams and transport requests for each evening of operation and maintain up-to-date statistics. The receptionists have direct on screen access to a detailed list of businesses in the region, which is updated every year. Operation Red Nose gives top priority to the security of its volunteers and users. Each volunteer must fill out a registration form, which is then checked by police authorities, thus ensuring the quality of our volunteers and allowing users to return home safely. Christie & Walther Communications provides with 100 walkie-talkie radios and five radio bases. This way, volunteers do not have to return to headquarters after each call and feel more secure as they are always in communication with headquarters. To facilitate the identification of volunteers and to enhance the security of users, each volunteer wears a security patch with reflecting strips thanks to the Desjardins Caisses de l Outaouais and Canadian Tire retailers of the Outaouais.
