1 Christian Network - March 2009 Tuesday 3rd Poppin Wednesday 4th AMFM (A Morning For Me) The Ark Highfield Church, Highfield Lane, 10:30am - 11:30am The Ark is a group aimed at pre-school children and their parents/carers. It runs from am on t he first Wednesday of each month in termtime at Highfield Church. We have a bible story and often a craft activity relating to the story or a game. We sing songs together using actions and pictures. We close the session with a prayer. There is then time to have a drink and snack and for the grown-ups to chat while the children play or draw. All proceeds will go towards the building work of a team from New Community at a children's home in South Africa later this year. Wimpson Lane, Hosted by Ann Starbuck and the women of Millbrook Christian Centre, the theme of the conference is Lord You are SO good, and that is Who will be celebrated! In these challenging times, God is still good all the time, and an invitation is extended to the women around our city to come and join in this celebration. 2 Tuesday 10th Poppin All Change Session Parentcraft Room, Level F, Princess 7:00pm - 9:00pm Anne Hospital, There are some 'All Change' sessions for expectant parents being run by Community Family Trust on 19th February '09, 10th March '09 and 20th April '09. These will all take place from 7-9pm in the Parentcraft Room on Level F of the Princess Anne Hospital. These workshops will look at how the birth of a baby affects parents' relationships with each other and those around them. Christians in Science Book Launch and Highfield Church Centre, Highfield Lane, 7:30pm - 9:30pm AGM A talk by Peter S Williams to launch his new book 'A Sceptic's Guide to Atheism'. The talk will take place in Highfield Church Centre, and will be preceded by the group's first formal AGM. Tea and biscuits from 7.30pm, there will be a brief AGM at 8pm, and the talk and discussion, which are open to the general public, will start immediately afterwards. 3 Saturday 14th Friends International and OMF Training Above Bar Church, 69 Above Bar 10:30am - 5:00pm Day On Saturday 14th March, the OMF Diaspora Team are coming to run a training day in to help local Christians to become more effective in reaching East Asians in their area by helping them better understand the mindset and cultures of their East Asian friends. Thanksgiving Service - Nick & Carol Highfield Church, Highfield Lane, 12:00pm - 1:30pm Pollard On Saturday 14th March 2009 Damaris will be thanking God for Nick and Carol Pollard's 25 years in "full-time" Christian ministry. There is an open invitation for anyone who has prayed for or supported or worked with Nick and Carol in any way to join them on that day for a special celebratory service at 12 noon at Highfield Church. Damaris office tours and reunions will also be happening that day. More details at Connect Youth Event Central Hall 7:30pm - 10:00pm Connect is a Christian youth organisation with a heart to unite the churches of by creating a network of youth groups working together to make Jesus visible to the City and World we live in. We run monthly youth events on a Saturday evening which consist of spirit-led worship, life changing ministry and a biblically based talk. It will be a non-threatening meditation experience. 4 Monday 23rd Public Discussion on Creation and Highfield Church Centre, Highfield Lane, 7:30pm - 9:00pm Evolution On 23rd March at 7.30pm, in the lounge of Highfield Church Centre, Professor Keith Fox of University and Reverend Graham Archer of Highfield Church will be leading a public discussion on creation and evolution and how bible believing Christians can take seriously the discoveries of science. This is additional to the weekly Poppin drop-in session that takes place every Tuesday morning. Cell UK Training Day King's Community Church, Sovereign 10:00am - 4:30pm Place, Upper Northam Close, Hedge End, King's Community Church are hosting a multi-track training day for cell leaders, cell supervisors and youth cell leaders. He will lead an evening of teaching on Christian Meditation at United Church in Winchester on Saturday 28th March. This ancient contemplative practice of stillness, simplicity and silence makes us aware of the divine presence within each of us and provides a spiritual grounding for our everyday lives.
