15 REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Coal bearing states like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Telangana to get potential revenue (including auction proceeds and royalties) of ` 3.35 lakh Cr. From auction of 29 Coal blocks & allotments of 38 coal blocks to states/psus over the lifetime of the mines REJUVENATED ECONOMY Prevented NPAs, reduced import bill, generated momentum for Make in India and raised resources for renewables & Ganga cleaning through coal cess. Legislation Enabled Coal Mines (Special Provision) Act & Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act enacted to enable growth of coal sector and provide for the welfare of locals particularly tribals in the mineral bearing areas 15 FUEL
16 INCREASING PRODUCTION THROUGH EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENT Reduction in coal theft using RFID/GPS tagging Reduced Transportation Cost Coal linkage rationalization to reduce transportation costs and save environment Coal Project Monitoring Portal for quicker decision making, faster dispute resolution and accelerated removal of bottlenecks Improved coal quality using compulsory crushing, washing and third party sampling 16
17 DOUBLING COAL INDIA PRODUCTION IN 5 YEARS Double coal production to 100 Cr. Tonnes by 2020 Trebling exploration activities for enhancing coal production Over 60 new mines to be opened Better evacuation of coal planned by investing massively in new railway rakes, expediting railway lines, modern equipment and mechanization Partnership between Railways, coal-bearing states and Coal India to strengthen infrastructure creation. 19 Innovative and transparent new scheme for making gas available for power generation and generating 7,900 Cr. units of power over the next two years from 24,150 MW of gas based capacity Reviving these Gas Based Power Plants will reduce peak load shortages in summer and ensure grid stability. First round of auction has resulted in power Below ` 4.7/unit Many of the stranded gas based power projects are located in the Southern region which is power deficit due to transmission constraints 19 FUEL

30 ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROGRAMMES NATIONWIDE CAMPAIGN FOR ENERGY CONSERVATION LAUNCHED ENERGY EFFICIENCY: ONE UNIT OF POWER SAVED IS WORTH 1.33 UNITS PRODUCED TARGET TO SAVE 10% OF CURRENT ENERGY CONSUMPTION ALL INCANDESCENT BULBS TO BE CHANGE TO LED IN THREE YEARS 30
31 DOMESTIC EFFICIENT LIGHTING PROGRAMME (DELP) taken up in about 151 cities in 18 states to replace Cr. bulbs in 6.3 Cr. households by 2016 Distribution of bulbs has already commenced in Andhra Pradesh where 45 Lakh LED bulbs have been distributed to about 22.5 Lakh consumers ` 310 ` 204 ` 149 ` 104 ` 82 Feb-14 Aug-14 Nov-14 Feb-15 Mar-15 Due to transparent procurement, price of LED has reduced by 74% from ` 310 in Feb 2014 to ` 82 in Mar 2015 Energy Efficient Street Lighting Programme to cover 251 municipalities across India to replace 90 lakh street lights by 2016 LED PRICE 74% Reduction Installation of LED street lights has already been completed in Greater Vishakhapatnam Municipal Corporation and Jhalawar Municipal Corporation CONSUMPTION 31 TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION > CONSUMPTION FUEL > GENERATION >
32 SABKA SAATH, SABKA VIKAS CO-OPERATIVE FEDERALISM Entire Coal auction revenue will go to coal bearing states especially under developed states of Eastern India like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal etc. Massive thrust to expedite projects in North East to overcome power shortages and increase prosperity. Investment of ` 9,865 Cr. for upgrading power systems in 8 North Eastern States (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura) For the first time, National State Power Ministers conference was held in Guwahati where Ministers & Officials from all over India converged in North East 24X7 power plans made for Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan. Action plans for other states at advanced stage of finalization 32
33 ZERO EFFECT ON ENVIRONMENT Massive thrust on renewables to increase share of clean energy More than 1 lakh solar pumps sanctioned in the past year Solar pumps helped lakhs of farmers increase output, income and also provide drinking water. Drinking water problem will be solved for more than 7.6 lakh families through solar pumps for drinking water UNNAT CHULHA ABHIYAN provides improved cook stoves for clean cooking, thus saving the lives of our mothers and sisters. 3.5 lakh cook stoves were sanctioned last year. Compulsory crushing and washing of coal to reduce ash transport by linking plants to their closest mines 33 TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION > CONSUMPTION BEYOND FUEL > GENERATION >
34 o o Massive thrust for MAKE IN INDIA program: Orders of more than ` 100,000 crores being placed from NTPC, Coal India, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd., Powergrid Corporation etc. to kickstart the economy Domestic industry being encouraged to scale up and become more cost effective o 1000 MW of solar capacity to be setup by PSUs with solar cells made in India o Defence establishments will buy 300 MW solar plants o Similar initiatives across sectors 34
35 Swachh Bharat The PSUs under the three Ministries are committed to active involvement in this effort. As a first step, they are investing over ` 2,250 Cr. for over 1,25,000 toilets separately for boys and girls by 15 th August, 2015 particularly in the needy states such as Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan. After construction, the PSUs will also maintain these toilets for a period of five years thus ensuring a complete sanitation programme. Awareness is being created in local communities to improve over all sanitation. 35 TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION > CONSUMPTION BEYOND FUEL > GENERATION >
36 TRANSPARENCY & EFFICIENCY in USING TECHNOLOGY DIGITAL National Transmission Asset Management Centre (NTAMC) to remotely monitor national power grid and help increase power availability Optical fiber network to connect all high voltage substations thus reducing outages Reduction in coal theft using RFID/GPS tagging Coal project monitoring portal for quick decision making, faster dispute resolution and accelerated removal of bottlenecks Smart Grid & Smart Metering to improve power availability e-office implemented in Ministries 36
37 TRANSPARENCY Fully transparent and online process for coal auctions adopted Support for restarting stranded gas-based power plants on the basis of reverse e-bidding process to discover lowest customer tariff Reduced red-tape and paper-work through delegation of powers and expansion of online interface 37 TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION > CONSUMPTION BEYOND FUEL > GENERATION >

39 Rapid Emergency Response Delhi: After transmission tower collapse in May 2014, central government worked day and night to restore power in 15 days which would have otherwise taken more than six months Cyclone Hudhud: Central teams assigned to restore power in cyclone hit areas. Damaged streetlights converted to LED within six weeks to restore as well as improve lighting J&K Floods: Special teams rushed to the state to restore power on war footing Nepal: Helped Nepal's electricity grid come online after the earthquake and is now working towards rebuilding the distribution network 39 TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION > CONSUMPTION BEYOND FUEL > GENERATION >
