1 Job Description Post: International Officer Salary/ Grade: Responsible to: Working Time: Grade 5 (The post will commence on grade 5, however, this will be reviewed in line with recruitment and income targets being met.) Assistant Principal: HE, Skills and International Part Time, 18 hours per week (initially). Term time plus 10 days. Main purpose of the post: To recruit international students to the college to study A levels /Advanced programmes, sourcing and maximising further business. To build strong business relationships with key partners (e.g. Agents / Schools) to meet annual international recruitment targets. To devise an international recruitment strategy and cycle, working closely with Marketing and Admissions. To ensure that the college has the necessary procedures in place to comply with UKBA requirements. To develop and maintain the admissions and administration systems that support international recruitment. To be part of the HE, Skills and International team and as such contribute to the general admissions, marketing and recruitment work of the department, working with both the Marketing and Admissions Officers. Main duties: 1. Operational/Strategic Planning 1.1 To develop key working relationships with external agencies to secure and develop international recruitment

2 1.2 To identify and establish partners in new and developing markets and to provide support to them in the recruitment of international students 1.3 To develop a marketing and recruitment strategy for international recruitment, working closely with Marketing and Admissions. 1.4 To work with the Assistant Principal: HE, Skills and International in putting in place all necessary Policy/Procedure and Strategy documents around the needs and interests of International Students 1.5 To support the College in maintaining its license and HTS 1.6 To develop and then have regular contact with overseas representatives to ensure recruitment 1.7 To produce marketing materials web based and hard copy for international students in partnership with the Marketing Officer 1.8 To contribute to the general admissions, marketing and recruitment work of the department, working with both the Marketing and Admissions Officers, as required. 1.9 To always portray a positive image of the College both overseas and in the UK 1.10 To keep abreast of all relevant UKBA and UKCISA notifications and advice 1.11 To liaise with the college s lead on host family accommodation for international students 1.12 There may be the expectation of some overseas travel in relation to recruitment once recruitment is established Write an annual self-assessment report and action plan in line with the College s planning and quality assurance procedures setting and reviewing targets and procedures for International Recruitment. 2. Teaching/training 2.1 To train college staff on any matters related to the admission and support of international students 2.2 To run induction and welcome sessions for international students 2.3 To be a key point of contact for international students, liaising with the student services team as required 3. Curriculum Development 3.1 To work with the College on developing an appropriate curriculum to meet the needs of an international market

Staffing 4.1 To support College staff in their support of International students during their time of study 4.2 To liaise with internal departments to ensure students are enrolled onto appropriate courses 4.3 Work collaboratively as part of a team to share good practice. 4.4 Work flexibly providing cover for absent colleagues when required. 4.5 Participate in continual professional development and coaching and mentoring to enhance and share good practice. 5. Students Safeguarding 5.1 Commit to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people by ensuring effective implementation of the safeguarding policy and procedures. Discipline 5.2 Take responsibility for promoting good standards of behaviour and conduct in students by implementing and reporting breaches of the Student Conduct and Discipline policy. Learner Involvement 5.3 Contribute to the development and implementation of the Learner Involvement Strategy in order to improve the quality of provision and to respond appropriately to learner needs. International Students specifically 5.4 To respond to International Student enquiries 5.5 To plan and implement meet and greet activities and student inductions on welfare issues 6. Quality Assurance 6.1 Write a Self-Assessment Report and Quality Improvement Plan on International Student Recruitment 6.2 Participate in the College s Performance Management Review system and have an annual review meeting with your line manager. 6.3 Keep a professional development file to record personal training and development.

Communications 9.1 Attend College events, briefings and meetings as part of the College s meeting schedule. 9.2 Use the College s systems, policies and procedures to communicate issues as necessary. 10. Marketing and Liaison 10.1 To establish appropriate marketing materials including web based information and material, printed publications, brochures and press releases for and about an international student market, working closely with Marketing and Admissions staff Contribute to the marketing and promotion activities of the College and the Department. 11. Management of Resources 11.1 To generate income through meeting recruitment targets for level 3 international students and other opportunities such as summer camps. 12. Health and Safety 12.1 Follow and comply with the College s policies and procedures as outlined in the Staff Handbook and take responsibility for the duty of care in respect of the levels of Health and Safety across the College 12. Other 13.1 Contribute to the college mission and ethos and support the aims and objectives of the College Follow and comply with the College s policies and procedures as outlined in the Staff Handbook.

8 Additional Information Post: International Officer This post is being offered, initially, on a part time basis for someone with the experience, drive and enthusiasm to initiate international student recruitment onto A levels at the college. The college currently has a licence to recruit 5 international students and aims to increase this figure over the coming years. In line with a recent UKBA directive, we aim to increase by no more than 50% a year. Targets for level 3 international recruitment: 15/16 16/17 17/18 18/ In addition to the above, there are targets for generating income through short courses. The college recently hosted 5 teachers from a partner school in China on a professional development programme. This post holder will have a crucial role to play in further developing this type of activity which also generates a modest income for the college whilst developing international links and understanding. It is expected that this post holder will be able to utilise a range of marketing strategies in recruitment. This post holder will have a critical role to play in managing the relationships with existing and new agents/representatives and partner schools to ensure they meet agreed actions and targets and to generate new relationships. It is important that these are managed to ensure they generate the recruitment of students. The college believes it can offer an excellent opportunity to international students who wish to study A levels (or a level 3 vocational Diploma) and then progress to a University. The high levels of pastoral care, the range of services and facilities and the high standards of teaching and learning as well as the location near to Manchester mean that the college is well placed to offer great opportunities to students. The college offers over 40 A level programmes and a range of vocational Diplomas and the college is also introducing a one year Foundation Art Diploma all of which offer international students a good range of choice but

9 within a small and supportive college community. The college s XL programme for talented students is also of great interest to international applicants. The college has already established a network of host families who are able to offer accommodation to students. The post holder will work in conjunction with the member of staff responsible for working with host families. The college has established some relationships with representatives/agents and some schools in China. This post holder will need to manage these relationships and develop new ones in a drive to ensure the recruitment of students. As the college has built some links with organisations in China, it would be useful if the post holder had experience of working with this market, although experience of working with other territories will also be fully considered. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of international recruitment work and a keen desire to develop and grow this in a new institution. There is scope for a review of the salary scale and working hours as provision and income develops and as such, this may offer a positive job opportunity to someone who is keen to develop their career.
