We will dine from the menu and each attending will pay the Kozmo Grille directly for their meal. We will have the upstairs room for our dinner meeting. The first 20 RSVPs are assured of a reservation. Overview: CRSPE members will have the opportunity to tour the Tesla Nanocoatings facilities while learning about their corrosion protection solutions. Tesla Nanocoatings has developed products such as the 2X1 Wet Edge system, which was developed for the Oil and Gas industry and other industries in harsh, corrosive environments. This coating provides barrier and cathodic protection by implementing a two-coat wet on wet application that allows for next day return to service. 2 P A G E 2 Engineer for a Day Hammontree & Associates hosted three students on February 25, 2016 for the Engineer for a Day program, including two students from Jackson High School and one student from Canton South High School. The students arrived at 9:00 am and met with the C.E.O. of Hammontree & Associates, Mr. Charles F. Hammontree, P.E., P.S. Mr. Hammontree presented an overview of the company and the role of civil engineers in the world today. A power point presentation was viewed, followed by the students spending time in each department within the company including hands-on activities. Lunch was provided and a brief tour of local projects and the company s role in each was the mid-day activity. The day concluded with the students spending time in the survey department and learning about Drone surveying. Engineering Coloring Contest We had almost 500 entries this year Second Grade Coloring Contest from the following 7 local schools: Strausser Elementary, Sauder Elementary, Amherst Elementary School, Dowds Elementary School, Canton Country Day School, Canton Montessori School, and St. Joan of Arc School. A special thanks to the coloring contest committee of Scott Dilling, Melinda Chase, and Jennifer Schumacher. The State Finalists from our area are Alece Evanto, Bailey Plack, and Ella Drake all from Sauder Elementary. 4 P A G E 4 CRSPE Scholarships The Canton Regional Society of Professional Engineers (CRSPE) is offering our annual Grantin-Aid scholarships to engineering students whose legal residence is in Stark County, Ohio. We invite your students to apply for this local scholarship. For students to be eligible, he/she must meet the following criteria: 1. Be enrolled in an accredited college of Engineering in the State of Ohio; 2. Legal Resident of Stark County, Ohio; and 3. Expect to receive baccalaureates in engineering during the period of May 2017 to May 2018 inclusive A hard copy of the application is attached to the end of this newsletter. 5 MATHCOUNTS P A G E 5 Canton and Ashland MathCounts Canton MATHCOUNTS winning teams from North Canton Middle School (1 st place) consisting of Ricky Park, Tresor Nshimiye, Pasindu Wanigarathne and John Waterhouse and Jackson Memorial Middle School (2 nd place) consisting of Pranav Nagajothi, Victor Berni, Justin Xia, and Jackson Milkanin will compete at the State MATHCOUNTS. The top two individuals not from the winning team are Pranav Nagajothi and Victor Berni, both from Jackson Memorial Middle School. The team from Ashland MATHCOUNTS heading to state is Edgewood Middle School: Tyler Keating, Ben Haven, Emanuel Butdorf, and Christina Sayre. The top two individuals not from the winning team are Ethan Hunter and Jadon Wyant from Lexington Junior High School. State MATHCOUNTS will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Columbus State Community College. Jackson Memorial Middle School North Canton Middle School TimkenSteel Tour The March 3rd two-hour guided tour of TimkenSteel highlighted the TimkenSteel manufacturing process. The plant itself is more than 20 acres and sits on a 450 acre site in Canton. The Jumbo Bloom Vertical Caster is the biggest in the world and the only of its kind in North America. Questions were addressed by Engineer Jamie Fitzgerald. Those who attended the tour were very impressed.
6 P A G E 6 Nominations Committee To prepare for the upcoming CRSPE election, President Hammontree is assembling a Nominations Committee to select candidates for officers and trustees. Please contact Charles Hammontree if you would like to volunteer to serve on the Nominations Committee. Please note that if there are not enough volunteers, per the bylaws, the President may appoint members to serve on this committee. Did you know? CRSPE gives awards for the following: Distinguished Service - For an Engineer of recognized standing within the area served by CRSPE for more than an ordinary relationship between services and the public welfare and the good of mankind. Recipient shall live or work within the area served by CRSPE. Meritorious Service - For a CRSPE member who promotes the objectives of the society. CRSPE membership is required. Young Engineer of the Year - Resumes complete with career and civic activities are accepted for those meeting the stated Young Engineer of the Year requirement. Recipient shall be under age 35 and live or work within the area served by CRSPE.
