3 Exterior Design 04 A unique design From the sculpted headlights to the rear spoiler, every feature has been developed to optimise air flow over and around the car, creating a smoother, more stable ride. With the rear seats lying flat, the boot space expands to a generous 1,210 litres*, including 70 litres of space in the under-floor storage area. This creates plenty of space for shopping, luggage and everyday living. For ultimate flexibility and practicality, the seats also feature a 60:40 split that lets you carry tall loads, long loads, or a mixture of both. 11 19 Performance Engines designed for the real world Our i-vtec petrol engines and i-dtec diesel engines are designed to deliver strong fuel economy, exhilarating performance and cleaner emissions. The 1.4 i-vtec delivers great performance with 100PS and achieves an impressive fuel economy of 52.3 mpg* and emissions of 129 g/km*. The delivers a powerful 142PS but with the fuel efficiency of a smaller engine. The new delivers 120PS, with excellent fuel economy of 78.5 mpg and emissions of 94 g/km CO 2. The delivers 150PS, fuel economy of 67.3 mpg while still managing to reduce emissions to 110 g/km. All engines have a 6-speed manual transmission while all four feature a shift indicator that informs you of the best time to change gear in order to maximise fuel economy. 12 21 Safety Feel genuinely excited, by feeling genuinely safe Honda are committed to building the very best safety features into every Civic. It all starts with the shell. Our Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure absorbs and deflects impact away from you and your passengers, keeping everyone protected. Multiple airbags, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) all come as standard. The Civic also comes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) to help maintain directional stability and Brake Assist (BA) which boosts braking power in an emergency. There s a lot of complex engineering and computing involved, but it s all about doing something very simple keeping you and your passengers safe. Please see Handbook for full operational details. Emergency Stop Signal If an emergency situation forces you to brake heavily, drivers behind you need as much warning as possible. Emergency Stop Signal does just that, automatically flashing the hazard lights in the event of hard breaking to reduce the chance of a rear-end collision. Whiplash Lessening front head restraints In the event of a collision, these front head restraints and 3-point ELR seatbelts help keep passengers safe and secure. Airbags The Civic has been fitted with airbags all around, including curtain airbags. The dual Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) gives complete protection. COMING HOME / LEAVING HOME LIGHTS Your convenience is always a top priority for us at Honda. So when you park your Civic at night, it automatically leaves the headlights on for 15 seconds, illuminating your surroundings. And when you return to unlock the car, it repeats the action, to assist you quickly and safely in the dark. Model shown is EX GT with optional Advanced Safety Pack. Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Whilst driving, the VSA sensors monitor grip to calculate the amount of power or braking force needed for maximum control. Deflation Warning System (DWS) The Deflation Warning System monitors tyre pressure and lets you know if you might have a puncture. IDLE STOP A stop start system which automatically shuts down and restarts the internal combustion engine to reduce the amount of time the engine spends idling, thereby improving fuel economy and reducing emissions.

13 Safety 24 Technology designed to make life easy At Honda we believe that advanced technology should be used to provide a valuable benefit. So we ve developed the Advanced Safety Pack which is a combination of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) to assist you on your journey. Another piece of convenient technology is the Smart Keyless Entry System. It locks and unlocks the doors, and even starts the engine without you needing to reach into your pocket. Smart keyless ENTRY and start* Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)* ACC can adjust your speed in relation to the vehicle in front, keeping you consistently the same distance apart. It allows you to select the speed and distance between you and the car ahead. A radar set behind the front grille constantly monitors the gap ahead and controls the distance by automatically adjusting the throttle, or braking if the gap closes. Should the vehicle ahead increase its distance again, the ACC system brings you back to your pre-set speed. Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)* CMBS assists your braking by automatically applying an appropriate amount of braking force to help you avoid or minimise the chances of hitting a vehicle ahead of you in traffic. By using a radar transmitter mounted behind the front grille, the radar system helps to detect when a frontal collision is imminent. CMBS works in conjunction with the seatbelt, providing visual and audio warnings for the driver to take preventative action. It can also initiate braking to reduce vehicle speed. Primary warning: When there s a risk of collision ahead, or the distance between the two vehicles is too short, the alarm sounds and the word BRAKE appears on the i-mid (intelligent-multi Information Display). This alerts the driver to take action in order to avoid collision. Secondary warning: If the distance between the two vehicles continues to decrease, CMBS applies light braking and the seatbelt E-pretensioners in the driver s side gently pull two or three times. At this point the E-pretensioners pull the seatbelts with enough force to properly restrain you and your front passenger, giving you time to react and avoid a collision. Third warning: At this stage, there s a chance that a collision will occur. The CMBS system starts emergency braking and activates the brake assist function to reduce speed. At the same time the seatbelt tightens to reduce the impact of the collision on the driver and front passenger. *For more information on which grades these and other features are available on, please refer to specification pages

25 47 British Touring Car Championship Civic Racing DNA Could a car designed for the road really succeed on the track? Our R&D team thought so. After all, they have always tested the Civic s engine to the absolute limits in the lab so why not out on the track? Well, it seems their intuition was right. In its first year of racing in the acclaimed 2012 British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), the new Civic not only won in its first race weekend but, we are proud to say, took a clean sweep of titles, winning the drivers, teams and manufacturers championships. Quite an achievement, but racing has always been in our DNA. It s defined who we are and has consistently provided the ultimate test for our technological innovations and engineering. The latest Civic BTCC car is built around the European Civic 5 door hatchback and is powered by a newly designed, 300 BHP, 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, modified by our racing partners Team Dynamics in conjunction with Neil Brown Engineering.
