The following guidelines apply if a course is inactivated: Inactivate an existing course Submit a new Course Proposal form to reactivate this course if it has the exact title and description The inactive catalog number can only be used for a new course after a five year or fifteen semester period Course Offerings Course Typically offered Identifies what term(s) a course will be taught Catalog Print Identifies if a course should print in the published catalog Add a Requisite Identifies one of the following: Enforced: Add an existing requisite that is enforced by the system Catalog Request: Add a new requisite that will be enforced by the system Text Requisite: Add a text statement identifying the requisite (in course description only; not system enforced) N/A: Does not apply Requisite Information /Notes: Allows you to identify the requisite and an additional notes 3 P a g e

4 Catalog data The following guidelines apply: Transcript Title (Description) 30 characters long Article words should not be used (e.g. the, a, an) Use roman numeral convention for sequential courses The following guidelines apply: 55 characters long but may be determined by the number of words that appear in the CU-SIS Description field (transcript Unabbreviated Catalog Title (Long Course Title) title) All words will be unabbreviated Article, conjunctions and preposition words may be used The following guidelines apply: It should include a brief overview of the course content but not be as detailed as a course syllabus Course Description (Long Description) Limited to 40 (forty) words Any changes to the content will require a new Course Proposal form to be submitted 4 P a g e

6 Instructor Consent Identifies if department consent is required in order to register for the course Course Attribute Identifies if a course attribute should be assigned Course Component Identifies how a course is taught s under review Type Clinical Conference Dissertation Field Studies Independent Study Internships Laboratory Lecture Main Lab section A dissertation, an original investigation showing mature scholarship and critical judgment, demonstrating knowledge of research tools and methods, required for graduation at the doctoral degree level. Thesis and dissertation credits should correlate with the scope and level of research or written work Instructional activities conducted by faculty and designed to supplement individual course work Student projects or other required activities with minimal faculty associated direction where a student is formally enrolled during a period of independent study instruction in pursuit of a CCDE-approved degree program. Credit hours for placement in business and industry environments that offer degree-seeking students professional level experience and responsibility. To qualify for state support, the internship should be well supervised and carefully structured (i.e., based on learning objectives that are related to the student s academic discipline and established in cooperation with the student, employer, and faculty advisor) Instructional activities conducted by faculty requiring student participation, experimentation, observation or practice Formal presentation/communication by faculty Stand alone lab focused on instructional activities conducted by faculty requiring student participation, experimentation, observation or practice Practicum Private Instruction Recitation Research Two-way (student and faculty) communication of course materials Student projects or other required activities with minimal faculty associated direction where a student is formally enrolled during a period of research in pursuit of a CCDE-approved degree program.
