During this visit to your property, our team conducted a visual assessment of your basement and yard. The results of these inspections and our prioritized recommendations are included in this report.

2 Assessment: 445 E 89 th St, Chicago, IL Page 2 Your Flood Risk In your application, you indicated that your goal for participating in this pilot is to: Reduce my risk of repeat flooding, Eliminate any chance I will ever be flooded again, Learn about possible solutions that I can implement on my property to reduce risk and Learn about possible solutions so I can work with my neighbors to reduce risk. While no measure can guarantee that a homeowner will never experience damage from flooding again, our Wetrofit service prioritizes recommendations we believe provide the greatest value to you, while reducing the impact of your investment on neighbors, and greatly reducing your risk of preventable flooding. Our flood assessment of your property indicates that your flood experience is most likely a result of: City sewers overwhelmed by significant rainfall that backup into your home sewer; and Rainwater infiltrating through cracks adjacent to your foundation and then seeping through porous foundation walls. To reduce your risk of repeat preventable flooding, we recommend that you take measures to: Modify gutters to pitch water to front and back yards and disconnect all downspouts that direct rainwater to your home sewer; Install raingardens or other on-site infiltration, such as a drywell or french drain, to collect and infiltrate rainwater at a safe distance away from your building foundation; and Install a backwater valve on your main home sewer. Understanding Flooding There are three types of flooding that commonly affect city residents: Water Backup from floor drains, bathtubs, and sinks; Water Seepage through cracks in floors or foundation walls; and Overland Flooding across yards or into basements. Our research shows that during the years , the equivalent of one in six properties in Cook County received a flood insurance claim, however in your zip code (60619) the equivalent of one in three properties (34%) received a claim double the average. The average claim for the county amounted to $3,733. Table 1 shows that the average claim in your zip code was $7,729. Measures were selected based on field observations of your property, your report of flooding experienced and accepted best practices from the construction industry. Measure 1 is critical to reducing your risk of receiving water backup from the city sewer, and is complimented by Measure 2 a low cost solution that will further reduce your flood risk. Measures 3 and 4 are intended to reduce your exposure seepage through foundation floors and walls. Our Wetrofit service can further assist you by coordinating the solicitation and review of bids from qualified contractors and verifying that recommended measures are installed to specification. Our goal is to help ensure that your investment in flood prevention measures will have the greatest impact in reducing your flood risk. # Measure (Problem Addressed) 1 Install backwater valve (Water Backup) 2 Re-pitch gutters and discharge all downspouts to lawn or raingardens (Seepage and Water Backup) 3 Pour new concrete sidewalk (Seepage) Description -Install backwater valve on mainline home sewer -Recommend installation location under basement floor to minimize installation cost -Pitch existing gutter to re-located downspouts at four corners of building -Disconnect existing downspouts from home sewer and cap standpipes -Extend discharge of downspouts <10 from foundation -Install raingarden to capture discharge from downspout. -Pour new sidewalk with positive pitch away from building foundation 4 Install French drain -Install French drain along western property line to drain water from foundation to front yard Contractor Type Plumber Landscape; Gutter Installation Paving/General Construction; Landscape Landscape Our estimate is that the above measures will cost between $2800 and $3900. This estimate is based on organizational knowledge and is not based on contractor quotes. Actual costs of measures to be provided by contractor may vary based on existing conditions, materials considerations, owner preference, and variations in labor costs.
