1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Responsible to: Freelance Project Manager (Six Ways to Well Being) Head of Learning, Turner Contemporary This is a freelance position with a fee of 9000 (based on approximately 60 days work) between June and November There is also a limited travel and expenses budget for this post holder. Background Turner Contemporary is currently working with partners across Thanet to deliver an exciting cross-art form festival, Summer of Colour, from 24 May to 21 September As part of the Summer of Colour, Turner Contemporary has been awarded 35,000 to work with disadvantaged young people from Thanet to improve their wellbeing. This programme is the product of a partnership between Kent County Council Public Health and the Arts & Culture Service, the Royal Opera House Bridge and Artswork as the South East Bridge. This commission has been jointly funded by KCC Public Health, Royal Opera House Bridge and Artswork as the South East Bridge and will be managed by Kent County Council. The programme aims to creatively publicise the Six Ways to Wellbeing campaign on a large scale. It will involve targeted intervention with vulnerable young people and their families or carers. 100 young people will work with artists throughout the summer to develop a Celebration Day as part of the Summer of Colour on Sunday 21 September to which they must attract a further 500 people. Turner Contemporary will work in partnership with Pie Factory Music and Thanet Libraries to deliver this programme. Six Ways to Well Being Mental wellbeing has been identified as a core area for investment for Public Health in Kent and is associated with a range of better outcomes for people of all ages and backgrounds, including improved physical health and life expectancy, better educational achievement, increased skills, reduced health risk behaviours, healthy functioning families, communities and society, and reduced risk of mental health problems and suicide. A large part of KCC s investment programme in promoting wellbeing and preventing mental illness is a Six Ways to Wellbeing campaign and communications strategy that encourages people to adopt the six ways to wellbeing behaviours to improve their mental wellbeing. The campaign focuses around the Wheel of Wellbeing (WOW) which has six dimensions and is referred to as the Six Ways to Wellbeing. The Project Manager will

2 need to understand the themes of the six ways to wellbeing and embed them throughout the project, these are: Connect - with family, friends, colleagues, neighbours Be active - walk, run, garden, dance Take notice - be curious, reflect on experiences Keep learning - try something new Give - doing something for others Grow your world - planet care for its sustainability For further information on the Six Ways to Wellbeing please visit the Live It Well, Kent s mental health and wellbeing strategy ( This gives priority to promoting wellbeing as a cost effective preventative intervention. It puts particular focus on tackling health inequalities by targeting those groups who have less resilience or who are at higher risk. The wellbeing approach offers a positive alternative to the illness and disability focus of much health and social care provision. Aims of our Six Ways to Wellbeing Project We will use the structure and audience for the Summer of Colour as a platform for our Six Ways to Wellbeing project. With support from Concorde Youth Centre, Pie Factory Music and Thanet Libraries, we will enable local young people to: - Develop a deeper understanding of the Six Ways to Well Being through working with inspiring artists, musicians, dancers, philosophers, Turner Contemporary s Navigators, youth workers and other creative professionals throughout the summer - Develop confidence, thinking and communication skills, connecting with, inspiring and leading others, including their families and carers - Form lasting connections with other young people, youth workers, local artists and arts organisations which will be sustained beyond the project - Take part in fun, uplifting, challenging and diverse activities which have the Six Ways to Well Being embedded within them, whilst accessing the support of trained youth workers and well being experts - Experience joy of working in different places in Thanet, from beaches to galleries, studios, libraries and green spaces - Inspire and motivate others to adopt the Six Ways to Well Being

3 Principal Duties/Tasks and responsibilities of the Project Manager To lead the project delivery of the Six Ways to Wellbeing in Thanet, inspiring young people and partners to contribute to an ambitious and excellent programme To work with Pie Factory Music and other partners to recruit 120 young people for the project To manage all artists and partners, and support young people throughout the process To be responsible for co-ordination of venues, rota of artists, Navigators, film makers and youth workers and ensure that they are all properly contracted for their services. With the support of the Finance Manager, to work within and monitor income and expenditure budgets, delivering all events within budget and to agreed targets and timescales. To oversee evaluation in collaboration with external project evaluator, collating feedback and data against the project aims and targets and to prepare a final report. To be responsible for all administration relating to the project, including booking facilitators, room hire, writing risk assessments, Arts Award admin, writing of contracts, ensuring DBS checks are in place and seeking permissions to use public spaces Knowledge of Health and Safety policies and an understanding of equal opportunities. A certain level of flexibility regarding availability outside normal working hours is required to attend events and private views. 4 Person Specification Specification Essential Desirable Qualifications: Skills: Degree or post graduate qualification in Art History or related field A youth work qualification Experience of, and enthusiasm for, working with young people Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in particular the ability to communicate clearly and confidently with diverse audiences Excellent event organising skills Excellent administrative skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail Work Experience: Experience of working with young people in an informal setting Experience of working in a cultural organisation Experience of working on project linked to Public Health Experience of programming in the public realm Project management and administrative experience Confident user of computers and audio visual equipment Experience of working in partnership Experience of managing artists from broad art forms Experience of working in Thanet, or with young people in other disadvantaged areas Behaviours/characteristics:
