10 10 Snowsport essentials Whether you choose to rent or purchase from Snowco, there are some essential pieces of kit you need. In order to make the right choices, you need to know what to look for. This section will give you some insight into what to consider when looking for equipment. Head Most of the heat lost from the body is through the head. We advise using a warm hat (a beanie style) to help the body retain more heat. There is a wide variety of styles, colours and choices, so the overall decision will come down to personal preference. The other advantage of a beanie style hat is it can be kept in a pocket until required. The other consideration with the head is safety. If you decide to wear a ski helmet ensure it complies to EN1077. Beyond that, ensure it fits correctly and is comfortable. Eyes There are two basic choices for eye protection sunglasses or goggles. If possible, take both. If you only take one, ensure you go for the goggles. This is because goggles can be used in both the fine conditions and blizzards. We recommend a minimum UV400 high protection rating. Body (outer layers) The main things to look for are that your garments are waterproof and windproof and should also be insulated to ensure warmth. If you remember these three basics, you will not go far wrong warm, waterproof and windproof. Body (under layers) On the upper body it is best to use a layering system. This requires wearing two or three thinner layers rather than one thick layer. The layers trap air between them which helps keep the body insulated. It s also easy to remove a single layer should you become too hot. The best things to consider here are maybe a base layer of thermal garments, followed by a further layer of a tee shirt or polo neck and finally a slightly thicker layer such as a fleece. On the lower body, it is best to use the layering system again. In all, but the most extreme conditions, one layer should be more than enough. The best thing to consider is a thermal garment. Alternatives to this would be something in the way of a pair of tights or jogging bottoms. Hands You need to ensure your gloves follow the same criteria as the other outer clothing warm, windproof and waterproof. They should be constructed from a similar material as your ski clothing. Whatever happens, do not assume a pair of woollen gloves will be ok they won t! They can be fine if thin enough to be worn inside your gloves but in no other way are they suitable. Feet When choosing socks for skiing, it is important to look for a tube sock. These are specially designed for use with a ski boots as they have no defined heel or toe, meaning there is no seam. Three pairs should be sufficient to last you the week they can be worn the correct way for a day and then inside out the following day.

11 11 Important Information How to order Visit to place and pay for your ski wear rental or ski accessory purchases. When ordering rental wear over the website, we will require your school name, departure date and ski party leaders surname. Fill in the relevant sections on the Snowco order form, retaining the bottom copy for yourself and send the top copy to Snowco, along with an accompanying cheque made payable to Snowco. Call the Snowco office to place and pay for your order over the telephone. We accept all major credit and debit cards. All postal orders must be sent with full payment no later than 3 weeks before your departure date. Late orders will be added at our discretion. Additional Snowco brochures and order forms can be downloaded from our website or requested by phoning the Snowco office. Accessories ordered over our website will be dealt with on an individual basis and not involve your ski party leader unless instructed to do so. Delivery All rental suits and helmets will be waiting for you in the resort. Orders placed through the school will be delivered in bulk to the school at least 14 days prior to your departure. Orders placed individually or directly over our website will be delivered to the card holder s address unless instructed to do otherwise. All orders will be individually packaged and labelled. Please ensure that all delivered items are checked for damage and tried on prior to your ski trip. Measurement instructions Fill in all sections of the website booking form where sizing is required. Sizing guides for our rental wear items and ski accessories can be found on our website and within the Snowco brochure. Measure accurately! Use a tape measure and provide accurate measurements, not what you d normally buy. If ordering a ski helmet, we do not require any measurements. Those who rent ski helmets are correctly measured and allocated a ski helmet once in the resort. Damaged, unwanted items and cancellation If a hired item is no longer required, please contact Snowco with your group name and departure date and we ll happily organise a full refund (refunds cannot be issued once the hire period is over). Should a purchased item arrive damaged, please contact the Snowco office so that a replacement item can be sent immediately. If an item is received and no longer required, please contact Snowco for details on our returns policy and how to return the item. General terms & conditions The hirer takes full responsibility for all hired items and agrees to pay the full retail price of the item in the event of loss or theft. In the case of repairable damage the hirer is liable to pay the cost of repair. By signing the declaration on the bottom of the booking form the signatory agrees to the general terms and conditions stated above.
