9 Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) 100 points to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). 140 points Automatically invited to apply for residence. Main points awarded for: o o o o Offer of skilled employment Work experience Qualifications Age (55 years or younger) Note - Job offers for SMC must meet definition of skilled employment.
10 Enables employer to supplement workforce with talent from overseas without need to show no NZ workers available. Employer applies for accreditation showing: Work to Residence Sound financial position, good HR processes, committed to employing Accredited Employer and training New Zealanders, complies with employment law. Employee makes talent work application: Aged 55 or under with 2 year (or longer) job offer Salary of NZ$55,000 or more Work to Residence Accredited Employer immigration and
11 Long Term Skill Shortage List (LTSSL) A list of skilled occupations in shortage nationally Allows approval of Work Visa without need to show there are no NZ workers available Note: If job offer permanent, or for at least 2 years, employee can work to residence, i.e. apply for residence after working in the job for 2 years.

13 Immediate Skill Shortage List (ISSL) List of skilled occupations in current shortage by region Allows approval of work visa without need to show no New Zealand workers are available, though case officer can conduct labour market test if they think New Zealanders may be available.

15 Labour Market Test Use this option if occupation and qualifications/experience of candidate are not on a skill shortage list, or job does not meet accredited employer requirements. Employer provides evidence of attempts to recruit New Zealanders for inclusion in work visa application Immigration officer conducts a labour market test as part of candidate s application process
16 Duration of Work Visas All work visas are for the length of contract up to maximums of; 1 year if at level 4 or 5 of ANZSCO Duration of Work Visas 3 years if at level 1, 2, or 3 of ANZSCO 5 years if first time application and at level 1 of ANZSCO and salary of $55,000 or more ANZSCO = Australia New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations
17 Approval in Principle Used in same cases as labour market check, but - you have not yet located a candidate, or - you have more than one position vacant Employer applies for approval in principle to recruit workers from offshore. Labour market check is done as part of employer s application. When approved, employer has confidence that can bring in the people needed for the job.
18 Specific Purpose Work Visa An option if the work is for a particular one-off event or project. Must state why a particular person is required and no other will be suitable, so it is clear New Zealand workers are not affected.
19 Working Holiday Schemes New Zealand has working holiday schemes for citizens of 39 countries. Details are available at Working Holiday Visa holders can take up temporary employment. If offered a permanent job, they can apply for another type of Work Visa if they meet policy requirements.
20 Immigration Adviser Licensing Anyone giving immigration advice, needs a licence (unless exempt). Immigration NZ will not accept applications from unlicensed advisers.
