2 1. About MyGSM The MyGSM controller has been developed over a two year period due to a need for an effective and easy to install GSM control module programmable via simple SMS commands and a web portal function, or USB. The standard MyGSM controller has 2 relay outputs and 2 optical isolated inputs making the controller ideal to use with commercial and domestic automation (open gates and garages), emergency notification (burglar alarm notifications, fire, panic, outdoor beams and medical events) agricultural (turning on sprinklers, water pumps), commercial and industrial (monitoring water levels, control machinery) - in fact any application or appliance requiring remote monitoring and control. The MyGSM Controller communicates in the GSM network (contract or pay as you go ) and can be programmed to store up to 5,000 telephone numbers (fixed line or cellular). In addition each of the two inputs can be programmed with an additional 10 numbers. MyGSM controller will accept missed call, please call me and standard SMS commands form pre-programmed numbers and can transmit confirmation messages when an input is triggered via the same commands. (Missed call, please call me or SMS). MyGSM allow the remote enquiry of airtime balance for pre-paid SIM cards and remote recharge of airtime. NO MORE loss of tags, cards, wireless remotes and unauthorised access MyGSM is ideal for B&B s, lodges, boutique hotels, town house and cluster home developments, schools, large parking facilities, self storage facilities etc. Using the web portal visitors, guests, staff, residents, service and maintenance technicians can be added and removed simple and easily. Precautions Ensure that you have CLI/CLIP enabled SIM card; SIM card must be RICA registered; Installation should be done by qualified person;

4 Unit must be used only for the intention as explained in this document. Please observe the 12Volt DC polarity when connecting the unit. MyGSM does not accept any liability caused by incorrect installation or use of the product. 5. What to do first 1) Register a sim card on the local GSM Network. Make sure sim card is CLI and CLIP enabled. 3) Load sim card with airtime if needed; 4) Insert sim card into connector on bottom side of PCB; 5) Connect 12Vdc. Observe polarity 6) Wait for unit to start up; Once 12Vdc are connected the STATUS LED s will illuminate; As the MyGSM controller progress in registering on the GSM network more LED s will illuminate; The STATUS LED will flash fast during the network registering process;

5 Once the module has registered on the GSM network, the 5 LED s will go OFF and the STATUS LED will start flashing slower at a rate of approx 3sec intervals. 7) The unit is now ready to be used; 8) Press the Signal button to see the signal strength. Each of the 5 LED s represents 20% signal strength. NOTE: Once the LED s has lid up the push button must be released. WARNING: : If the Status button is held down for longer than 5sec the unit will reset. 6. Programming 9) PLEASE NOTE: The first SMS command to the unit MUST BE to register the Master / Administrator SETADMIN - SMS commands to the MyGSM Controller are NOT case sensitive. Unit will send reply SMS back to you Success: Administrator created Programming Legend: The following numerical and text input is allowed: 0 to 9 and a to z # represents a space Command a programming instruction (see list below) SMS commands are not case sensitive. But the SPACES are very important.

6 2) Add numbers to control relays (Refer to SMS commands) Note: The # symbol is used to indicate a SPACE between the letters. Do not type in #, it must be a SPACE. ADDNUMBER# This will allocate Relay 1 to the above number. - Please take note on the # after the R just before the 2 of 27. ADDNUMBER# #1 - This will allocate Relay 1 to the above number. Take note there is a SPACE after the last 9 and the 1 at the end. But this ADDNUMBER is 100% the same as in (a). - Please take note on the # after the 9 for the 1 to define Relay1. - *No space after last digit!! ADDNUMBER# #2 - This will allocate Relay 2 to the above number. No space after last digit!! 7. SMS Commands Note: The # symbol is used to indicate a SPACE between the letters. Do not type in #, it must be a SPACE. SETADMIN: Set administrator / Master Example: From the Master phone SMS only SETADMIN to the MyGSM Controller. This MUST BE done as first command to unit. CLRADMIN: Clear administrator / Master Example: From the Master phone SMS only CLRADMIN to the MyGSM Controller. This would mean that the Master removes him / her and allow someone else to become the Master. SETNAME#bbb: Set unit name, where bbb is the Unit name. (Max 15 characters). Example: SETNAME#Main#Pump#House INPUTNAME#1#yyy: Give name to Input 1, where yyy is the name you want to assign to Input 1. (Max 15 characters) Example: INPUTNAME#1#Silent#Panic. INPUTLIST#1: This command will reply back with list of numbers programmed in for Input 1.

7 INPUTLIST#2: This command will reply back with list of numbers programmed in for Input 2. DELNUMBER: Delete number Example: DELNUMBER# STATUS: This message will return the software version of the unit and various other settings. AIRTIME: This command will return the airtime balance if pre-paid SIM card is used. OPEN or ON: Relay OPEN or ON command. Example: OPEN#1 Example: ON#1 -This command will check what the dipswitch setting is for the relevant relay, pulse or latch. If Pulse it will then only pulse relay for 2 seconds. OFF: Relay OFF command. Example: OFF#2 (Note the space after OFF and before 2) RECHARGE: Recharge airtime command. Example: RECHARGE# (Note: MTN, Cell-C, Vodacom and Virgin Mobile supported) RESET: Reset command, this will reset the MyGSM controller Example: RESET Programming examples: To delete a number enter the following: Command#number to be erased - DELNUMBER# Configuring numbers associated with Relay outputs and Inputs: Note: The # symbol is used to indicate a SPACE between the letters. Do not type in #, it must be a SPACE. Use the ADDNUMBER command and follow the instructions below. SMS commands are not case sensitive. But the SPACES are very important. Add number for Relay 1 Example: ADDNUMBER# #1 - This SMS will add to the allowed numbers and allocate Relay1 to this number. *Please insert a space as indicated with#

9 8. Enable / Disable Inputs or Outputs SMS commands? ENABLE#OUTPUTS DISABLE#OUTPUTS ENABLE#INPUTS DISABLE#INPUTS This command will enable all Outputs. This command will disable all Outputs. But the SPACES are very important. 9. Programming numbers to be valid for a limited time period The MyGSM controller allows you to add a number to be valid for any number of days between 1 30 days. SMS commands to add a number to be valid for 9 days for Output 2 or relay 2 would be: Example: ADDNUMBER# #2#9 *Please insert a space as indicated with#

10 Adding the number of days after the relay or input will determine the period during which this number will be valid. This feature is extremely useful when using the MyGSM controller at the entrance gate at B&B s, lodges, boutique hotels, parking areas, visitors etc. 10. 11 11. Typical Input wiring Typical wiring for input trigger: 1. Wire (1-) to GND (Black Wire) 2. Wire (1+) via trigger contact to +12V (Red Wire) How to wire a 12V light to relay 2: 1. Wire (2C) to GND (Black Wire) 2. Wire (2NO) via light to +12V (Red Wire)

12 12. How to determine signal strength at Installation? The MyGSM controller is supplied with a stubby antenna. The following procedure will assist to determine the signal strength of the MyGSM controller during an installation. Should the signal strength be below 60% please consider adding an external antenna. How do I know the signal strength? Press and hold the push button on the board down for at least 1sec, while observing the Green LED. Each LED represents 20% signal strength, thus 3 lights would mean you have 60% signal strength. Recommended signal strength should be 60%. EXTERNAL GSM ANTENNA If it is found that signal strength is to low make use of an External Antenna.

14 15. How to update units firmware via USB: 1) Disconnect 12Vdc; 2) Switch Jumper (J5) from Normal to USB position; NORMAL USB 3) Connect Mini USB cable to PCB and to unit; MINI USB CABLE

15 4) Wait for PC to display the window similar to a USB Memory stick. 5) a) Copy the latest firmware.bin from the website; To be able to do this you will have to log on to the website You will have to register a valid IMEI number; b) Once you have done this you would be able to access the Download section; c) Copy the firmware.bin file into the MyGSM unit; 6) Make sure that the firmware.bin file appears in the window above;

16 7) Once copy is completed, unplug and disconnect the unit from the USB connection; 8) Unplug the USB cable; 9) Wait for approx 10sec, plug USB cable back in; 10) Wait for unit to reprogram itself with new firmware (Approx 20-40sec); 11) Wait for the below window to open again: 12) a) Double click on the version.txt file; b) Check that this version displayed is as per the latest released version; 13) When programming is completed, click on

17 14) Unplug Mini USB cable; 15) Switch Jumper back to Normal; 16) Connect 12Vdc again and wait for unit to start up. 17) Send STATUS command and Version should be as per latest release. For any further assistance please contact us via How to backup settings 1) Get the latest PC Application software from the website To be able to do this you will have to log on to the website You will have to register a valid IMEI number; Download the latest PC application; 2) Connect Mini USB cable on MyGSM Controller board; 3) Plug the jumper on the board on J5 from Normal to the USB position. 4) Wait for window to pop-up with External drive. 5) Save Config.bin file from MyGSM Controller onto your PC; 6) Run PC application called GSMConfig.exe file; This file is provided on the CD with each unit. It can be located on the CD inside the PC Application folder. 7) Click on the Open File button; 8) Now go the directory on your PC where you have saved the Config.bin file, and open it 9) You will see now all the numbers that was programmed into the unit will appear on the screen; 10) Click the Save File button; 11) The new file to be saved is called newconf.bin. Save this somewhere on your PC; This is the file you would need to copy onto the units.

18 12) Go to the MyGSM controller; 13) Plug the Mini USB cable into unit; 14) Switch Jumper to USB position; 15) Wait for window to pop up (please see section 15); 16) Copy the newconf.bin file onto the unit; 17) Remove the jumper and wait for 5sec; 18) Plug jumper back into the USB position; 19) Wait for the window to pop up again, now the newconf.bin file must be gone; Only 3 files should be on the unit: Config.bin; version.txt and debug.txt. 20) Now the unit has been programmed with the correct data; 21) Remove the Mini USB cable; 22) Remove the jumper and plug it back into the Normal position on the jumper. 23) Check that all 5 LED s are OFF, 24) Press the button for 1sec just to check signal strength. 19 18. Online Web portal control Our web portal is use full if you would like to control your unit via the comfort of your home. All you need is internet connection. Visit our website at: for more details. We offer two options: 1) Free user and 2) Full user. For both these options there is no limit to the amount of units that can be registered to one account. Free user can add and delete up to 750 numbers via the webportal with no monthly fee. Only credits costs. And BULK SMS functionality. Full user has full access to all functions, with a minimal monthly fee. Refer to our website for more detail.
