LITE-DECK INSULATED CONCRETE FORMS STAY-IN-PLACE FORMS FOR SUPERIOR FLOORS, DECKS AND ROOFS

INCREASE COMFORT AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY FROM TOP TO BOTTOM WITH LITE-DECK Lite-Deck is a stay-in-place concrete forming system designed as an alternative construction solution to traditional ceiling and decking practices. The system uses the structural principles of reinforced concrete joists combined with the insulation properties of foam insulation. Additionally, unlike conventional cast-in-place concrete forms, Lite-Deck forms stay in place to reduce job site labor and provide permanent insulation. Designed for reinforced concrete floors, ceilings, decks and roofs, Lite-Deck also integrates seamlessly with Owens Corning Fold-Form Insulated Concrete Wall Forms, providing a complete building solution for homes, town houses, apartment buildings and commercial structures. 2

RESIDENTIAL FEATURES AND BENEFITS ENERGY-EFFICIENT Produces nominal values of R-30 and more SECURE Designed to protect during adverse weather VERSATILE Sloped, gabled and vaulted designs are no problem QUIET Reduces noise levels that travel between floors Lite-Deck is the solid concrete alternative for conventional floor and deck applications in homes, town houses or apartment buildings: This home features a cantilevered (projecting) concrete deck and a customized perimeter on the Lite-Deck floor. Decks and patios Multistory floors Earth-covered home roofs Garage floors Home or apartment floors Concealed safe ceilings Lite-Deck can also be used in sloped or gabled roof configurations to create open, vaulted room designs. Use it for strong, insulated crawl spaces too. A safe room can be designed as: 1. A portion of a below-grade basement 2. An above-grade room within a structure 3. A freestanding shelter on a concrete pad CONCRETE SAFE ROOMS Every year, tornadoes, hurricanes and other extreme windstorms injure and kill people and damage millions of dollars worth of property in the United States. While you should always take all necessary precautions to ensure your personal safety during any extreme weather event a safe room provides peace of mind. More and more people build houses in tornado- and hurricane-prone areas each year, possibly putting themselves into the paths of these storms. Having a shelter or safe room built into the house can help protect a family from injury or death caused by the dangerous forces of extreme winds. It can also relieve some of the anxiety created by the threat of tornadoes or hurricanes. The Lite-Deck system s solid, reinforced concrete joists and cover combination is recognized by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to be an effective envelope of protection against deadly winds when used in combination with reinforced concrete or masonry walls to construct a safe room. * * CAUTION: A shelter designed to protect you and your family from a hurricane should not be built in an area expected to be flooded during a hurricane. Residents of these hazardous coastal areas should abide by the warnings of their local emergency services personnel and evacuate to safer ground. * Publication No. 320, Taking Shelter From The Storm: Building A Safe Room Inside Your Home Construction Plans & Report, October For a free copy of this publication, visit the FEMA Web site ( 3

COMMERCIAL FEATURES AND BENEFITS ECONOMICAL Eliminates the need to strip forms CONVENIENT Requires less shoring than conventional wood decking systems FAST Built-in attachment rails DESIGN-FRIENDLY Can be modified to meet virtually any specification COST-EFFECTIVE Reduces maintenance, repair and energy costs In some applications, Lite-Deck is combined with engineered steel trusses for cost-effectiveness. Once concrete has been placed, the lightweight polystyrene forms stay in place to provide highefficiency insulation. 4

DESIGN TABLE NOTES: 1. Design tables are for cost estimating purposes only. Final beam reinforcing to be designed by a licensed design professional in responsible charge. 2. For 1 span condition, longitudinal reinforcing steel only required in bottom of beam. 3. For 2 and 3+ span conditions, longitudinal reinforcing required in both top and bottom of beam. 4. Shaded cells in table reflect need for shear reinforcing in beam. Shear reinforcing to be designed by a licensed design professional in responsible charge. 5. For 2 and 3+ span conditions, center longitudinal reinforcing in bottom of beam at midspan and in top beam at support. 6. Provide 3 4" minimum concrete cover to all reinforcing steel for interior exposure. Refer to the latest ACI 318 for minimum clearance for other exposures. 7. Multiple span reinforcing is valid for same length spans only. PROJECT SAFETY AND PERFORMANCE Shoring and Bracing Installer is responsible for the design and correct installation of shoring of form in accordance with the latest ACI (American Concrete Institute) 347R Guide to Formwork for Concrete, Design Chapter. Reinforced Concrete Installer is responsible for placement of all reinforcing steel in accordance with the latest ACI 318 Building Code Requirements for Reinforced Concrete and latest CRSI (Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute) standards. Concrete Placement Installer is responsible for compliance with latest ACI 614 Code (Handling) and AC I301 and 306 Codes for cold- and hot-weather concrete placement. Any variance from ACI or CRSI standards must be certified in advance by a structural engineer who is licensed for the job site s location and specifications. 9
