Parties Celebrate a birthday by scheduling an ice skating party at the Recreation Center. Cost is $3.00 per person. Cost includes ice skating admission and skate rental. A $15.00 fee is required if you wish to reserve party room. Parties must be scheduled during public ice skating times. To schedule a party call 373-RINK. The Recreation Center is offering a special rate for school class parties for the entire season from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays and on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, (Saturday and Sunday not included.) The primary objective of our supervised recreation program is to provide children the opportunity to enjoy their recreational pursuits in a safe, positive environment. This informal drop-in program will offer a wide variety of recreational activities and special events in the gymnasium and game room throughout the season. The program is free of charge. Pre-registration is not required. 6 YOUTH BASKETBALL PROGRAM Our youth basketball leagues run from mid- November to mid February. Specific practice and game days/times are structured after leagues are formed. Please make note of the important information listed below. YOUTH BASKETBALL REGISTRATION DATES: Tuesday, October 21st - Friday, October 24th 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25th: Noon to 3:00 p.m. Registration Fee: $25.00 per child *Registration fee includes all practice/game court time and tee shirt. * Registration will be held in the game room, located on the second floor at St. John s Youth Center. 7 SENIORS NEED RECREATION TOO! The Olean Senior Center is located in the John J. Ash Community Building, 112 N. Barry St. and is open for seniors age 60+ in the City and Town of Olean. The Senior Center offers a warm and inviting place for area seniors to come and enjoy a variety of activities, or to just watch TV, read and socialize. Along with exercise classes, weekly square dance and numerous activities, the center has a lending library of books and videos for the seniors to use. The Senior Center also offers a breakfast bar and the SWAN program provides daily lunch. Many educational and informational forums are held each month and are generally open to the public as well as the AARP Driving Course and Tax Clinics. The Junior League, offers younger seniors a chance to meet and enjoy fun activities. They meet the last Tuesday of each month and have dinners, picnics, activities, trips and Euchre Tournaments. New members are always welcomed. OLEAN AREA YOUTH COURT The Olean Area Youth Court is a highly successful delinquency intervention/prevention program servicing first time offenders between the ages of 7 and 15 years old. The Youth Court members are high school students from Olean, Allegany-Limestone, Portville and Hinsdale. Students are required to complete a structured training program and successfully pass a final law exam. They serve as the judge, side judge, facts attorney and law guardian.
