3 Overview The Automated Proactive Solution System (APSS) dashboard is customizable, widget-based dashboard that displays Commvault operational statistics relevant to the CommCell Administrator. The dashboard provides a single pane overview of the CommCell environment where APSS is deployed, graphically demonstrating how APSS positively impacts the operating state of an integrated CommCell environment APSS widgets provide a high level summary. Administrators can add, delete, or move widgets to accommodate their needs. Widgets not only provide the summation of data, but upon click-in, navigate to Chart views of the data. Charts provide extended detail associated with the function of each widget. Charts display data as a trending view or granular view, while maintaining the ability to filter or sort. These views provide the greatest flexibility for Administrators to review operational state via an intuitive user interface. Requirements The APSS dashboard has the same browser requirements as the Commvault Maintenance Advantage portal. The current requirements are as follows: Internet Explorer Version 10 and Version 11 The latest version of the Microsoft Edge Browser The latest version of Chrome The latest version of Firefox Basic Navigation Access The APSS dashboard is accessible from using your Maintenance Advantage credentials. Additionally, the dashboard opens when selecting the Proactive Support button located in the Maintenance Advantage portal and shown graphically below. Prior to accessing the dashboard, an APSS installer must be deployed. The installer includes a package of pre-built workflow solutions designed to optimize CommCell operations. When first logging into the dashboard there may not be any widgets loaded. Widgets are added using the Add Widget button at the top right of the dashboard. 3

4 The Add Widget button will select the widget to be placed into the dashboard. Example Widget to be added SLA Percentage Widgets can be arranged in any order desired by the administrator by holding a mouse click on any portion of the widget and moving the widget with the mouse. 4

5 For those customers or partners managing multiple CommCell environments, the top left side of the dashboard allows the ability to select from a list of CommCell s associated with the Maintenance Advantage account from a drop down menu. APSS Widget Reference Heartbeat The green circle at the top Right of the dashboard indicates the current data collection status. The most frequent interval APSS queries will run at is once an hour. When data collection has not occurred in more than two hours the indicator will turn red. A red indicator may be indicative of a communication issue between the Commserve and the APSS service and should be reviewed by the Administrator in order to ensure that the Commserve connection to the internet via port 443 is intact. Patch Level The Version button displays the current service pack level of the CommCell. The Patches button displays any separate updates, such as hotfixes, that are also applied to the CommCell. 5

6 If the CommCell version is more than two Commvault Service Pack versions out of date, a red circle with exclamation marks will appear. Hovering over the icon will display a message that the latest Service Pack is not installed. Pressing the icon will route the browser to the Maintenance Advantage Service Pack download page. Job Summary The Job Summary widget displays accumulated performance data collected over a period of 7 days. Total Jobs Completed Total jobs that have completed (failed or successful) over the last 7 days. Success % - Percentage of successful jobs over the last 7 days. Application Total amount of Applications backup jobs protected in the CommCell over the last 7 days. Applications include database-type jobs such as Oracle or Microsoft Exchange. File System Total amount of File System backup jobs protected in the CommCell over the last 7 days. VM - Total amount of Virtual Machine backup jobs protected in the CommCell over the last 7 days. 6

7 Database Health Widget The Database Health widget provides index fragmentation statistics for the CommServe database. Index fragmentation is calculated based on the average fragmentation of all the CommServe database tables. This chart updates on a weekly basis, or whenever a Full Metrics collection operation is run. The Next DB Maintenance time indicates the next timeframe that the apss_health_csdb workflow will execute. The amount of index fragmentation will fluctuate week to week based on the execution of the apss_health_csdb Health solution. 7

8 SLA Percentage The SLA Percentage widget is a pie chart displaying % of clients that do not have a data protection operation completed for at least one subclient. The SLA period is 30 days. To qualify for the Met SLA section of the widget the client must have completed at least one successful backup for each of its active subclients over the last 30 days. The SLA Resolvable portion of this pie chart, indicates what percentage of the missed SLA that can be resolved using an APSS-based automated solution. Critical Alerts 8

9 The Critical Alerts widget reflects failures occurring over the last 24 hours for clients that are classified as critical. To add clients to the Critical Alerts widget, the client must be associated to the CVProactive Critical Clients client group in the CommCell Console. From the list of error codes associated with this Client Group a list of available APSS-based solutions is provided for the Critical Clients. These solutions may be used once, or persistently set, to automate resolution of the issue based on the issue detected criteria. 9

10 Workflows Run The Workflows Run widget displays a bar graph indicating the frequency of APSS-based workflows that were executed during the last 7 days. Workflow solutions have a typical naming convention based on apss_<workflow Name>. When clicking into any of the bar graphs, a new tab is opened displaying the workflow Run Date, Run Time, Workflow details, and Results from the workflow. The workflow results also create a CommCell event. This helps the administrator to know that APSS is applying and executing solution via APSS automation. 10

11 Open Incidents The Open Incidents widget displays a summary of incidents that are opened with Commvault Support. Note that customers that use a partner to manage incidents, rather than direct support with Commvault, will only see those incidents opened by the partner on behalf of the customer to Commvault Support. Selecting an incident hyperlink opens a new browser tab to the Maintenance Advantage portal where additional details associate with the incident may be viewed. Solutions 11

12 The Solutions widget displays a list of available solutions from jobs completed over the last 24 hours. The first column is the error code, and the second column is the frequency of occurrence for that event type (otherwise referred to as the Impact). Hovering over the error code displays the error event description as seen in the Critical Alerts error code tab. Clicking on an error opens a CVProactive dash tab, listing all the available solutions for that error code. Drill In Charts Job Activity History Clicking within the Job Summary widget will drill into the Job Activity History chart. This chart displays Job Success over a period of two weeks. The red items in the bar graph features failed jobs; the green items are successful jobs and the grey items represent killed jobs. 12

13 Clicking on the red part of the bar graph opens up the Solutions tab. The Solutions tab provides a list of failed jobs with solutions that may be applied to address the detected criteria for the job failure. Solutions General Layout The Solutions dashboard detail displays failures occurring during the selected date, including solutions available to address detected event types, if available. The drill in can be reached from the Solutions widget, Critical Alerts widget, and Job Summary widgets At the top left of the page, the date can be selected for the view on this page. There are two sections to this page: 1. Available Solutions 2. Job Details The Available Solutions section displays overall errors that have occurred, including what solution is available, and the Impact this error has. The Impact represents the number of jobs impacted by that failure. The Job Details section provides specific details, at a job level, relevant to detected failures. The following fields are collected in this view: 13

14 RE Job ID Job ID for the failed job. By hovering the mouse over the Job ID, the agent, subclient, and Storage Policy information is displayed. Client The client name associated with the failure Job Message this is the failure event message Error Code(s) the error codes associated to the failure Solutions the available solution for the event type Applying Solutions When solutions exist, and have not been applied, they appear as red buttons in the Solution dashboard view. The Mark Applied button should be pressed when a Commvault Knowledge Base, or Documentation article associated with the solution was used by the administrator to resolve an issue. Additionally this button can be used to ignore a solution. The Unapplied button will only change status when the Automated Solution Workflow is applied. This button indicates there is a workflow that will resolve the issue. Once the workflow is applied and executed, the status of this solution will change to Applied automatically after the next data collection. A solution that has been marked Applied, or where a workflow was executed to fix, will change status as seen in the Job Details section of this page. The Applied button indicates the solution was implemented for the associated job. After applying a solution, if failures persist for the client, any new failures are displayed in the Solutions drill in dashboard view. REV Commvault Systems, Inc. All rights reserved.
