Once students have completed the task, invite them to share their responses with the class and record student responses on the chart paper. Provide verbal feedback to clarify student learning during the discussion. Action Alphabet Safety With students working in the same pairs, distribute Student Resource 4: Personal Safety and Injury Prevention Alpha Box to each pair. Instruct students to write or draw examples of safety practices and appropriate procedures for responding to dangerous situations for as many different letters of the alphabet as possible. When the task has been completed, ask students to cut their papers into squares, one for each letter, and post them around the room under the appropriate letter. A&E Teacher observation with feedback of students ability to demonstrate an understanding of appropriate safety practices for their selected situation using Teacher Resource 4: Safety Practices Checkbric Ophea I 2010 I H&PE Curriculum Support Resource I ISBN no I Page 6.HL.CO.19

Explain that each row contains the following: A Role who the student is pretending to be An Audience who the student is presenting the information to A Format the way in which the information will be delivered A Topic what the student is talking about Then explain that the tasks vary based on the choices made, so students should choose based on what they like to do and on their strengths. See Notes to Teacher for further information on the R.A.F.T. Strategy. Share the Success Criteria for Safety Practices with the students prior to beginning the task. Give students the remainder of the class to complete their chosen task from Student Resource 5: Safety Practices and Appropriate Procedures for Responding to Dangerous Situations R.A.F.T. and tell them to be ready to share their work in the next class. After allowing students to choose their task from Student Resource 5: Safety Practices and Appropriate Procedures for Responding to Dangerous Situations R.A.F.T., consider using the Thumbs-Up Strategy (see Appendix) to check for student understanding. Encourage students to make connections between the work of their peers and their own. As time permits, conference with students using direct questioning to ensure student understanding. Collect the completed tasks for Student Resource 5: Safety Practices and Appropriate Procedures for Responding to Dangerous Situations R.A.F.T. A&E Teacher observation with feedback of students ability to identify appropriate safety practices and procedures for responding to a dangerous situation, addictive behaviour and/or drug abuse using Teacher Resource 4: Safety Practices Checkbric Ideas for Extension Direct students to select more than one choice from Student Resource 5: Safety Practices and Appropriate Procedures for Responding to Dangerous Situations R.A.F.T. to complete.
