The 9R/9RT Series Tractors are built with the John Deere PowerTech PSX 9.0 L Engine or the new John Deere PowerTech PSX 13.5 L Engine. These air-to-air aftercooled engines deliver constant power over a wide range of engine RPMs and can provide a 38-percent torque rise and a 10-percent power bulge that will pull you up, over, and through tough conditions. Two turbochargers are used in a series for outstanding engine responsiveness. By splitting the work between two turbochargers, both can operate at peak efficiency and at slower rotating speeds for improved durability. An advanced engine control unit can sense engine speed and load changes at a rate of 100 times per second. This allows the engine to instantly adjust fuel quantity and injection timing, air-to-fuel ratio, multiple fuel injections, and amount of cooled exhaust gas recirculation to save fuel and improve performance. 8

9 The 9R/9RT Series meets the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency s Interim Tier 4 Emissions Regulations by utilizing cooled exhaust gas recirculation for controlling oxides of nitrogen and a smart exhaust filter for reducing particulate matter. The filter automatically cleans itself during normal machine operation for hassle-free and worry-free emissions compliance. Engines The new John Deere PowerTech PSX 13.5 L Engine uses an electronic unit fuel-injection system. Load and speed sensing allows each cylinder s fuel delivery rate to be adjusted independently at the individual injector. This allows total control of fuel delivery for reduced emissions, plus peak fuel economy and improved engine performance. The 9360R Tractor is built with the John Deere PowerTech PSX 9.0 L Engine, which uses a high-pressure common-rail fuel system to deliver outstanding engine responsiveness, torque rise, and durability. 9

11 Transmissions The refined 18-speed automatic PowerShift Transmission gives you 10 working speeds between 3 and 8 mph (4.8 and 12.8 km/h), in 1/2-mph (0.8 km/h) speed increments. Engine-integrated shifting, in conjunction with Engine Control Unit software, allows for more uniform shifting from gear to gear for a more comfortable ride. The robust housing and shafts plus industrial-strength bearings make this a rugged transmission you can depend on year after year. Two sets of air bags in front and behind the front walking beam help cushion your ride. Heavy-duty bushing cushions the walking beam and provides a pivot point for movement. The 9R/9RT Series Tractors have tremendous strength and durability for heavy-duty field work thanks to a massive three-section frame with a cast-iron gudgeon and rugged inboard planetary final drives on wheel models; track models feature a heavy-duty one-piece chassis and outboard planetary final drives with a five-pinion planetary set and a strong axle housing. Combine that with the field-proven PowerShift Transmission and the new John Deere PowerTech PSX Engine and you have one of the best powertrain solutions on the market. n Single- and double-reduction gear axles. 9R Series Tractors feature inboard planetary final drives to distribute axle loads evenly and to reduce stress on individual gears and shafts for improved durability. The inboard design also lets you choose from a wide range of wheel-tread settings, tire sizes, row spacings, and ballasting options to match your operation. A low sump decreases drag and delivers more power to the ground while providing better durability and reliability. Singlereduction axles are available on the 9360R, 9410R and 9460R Tractors; double-reduction axles are on the 9510R and 9560R Tractors, and all 9R Scraper Special models. n Tire and track options. The 9R Series offers a wide range of tire options in singles, doubles, and triples to match your row-crop spacing or broad-acre seeding requirements. When your 9R Tractor is equipped with the 15,300-pound (6940 kg) 3-point-hitch option, you can choose from a wider selection of Group 48 tires. 9RT Track Tractors can be equipped with the Durabuilt 3500 or 5500 Series track belts in 30- or 36-inch (76 or 91 cm) widths. 22

23 Powertrain/Tire and Track Options The 9R/9RT Series is built with a rugged chassis that improves ballasting capabilities. Wheel models can be ballasted up to 60,000 pounds ( kg) and track models up to 54,000 pounds ( kg). 23

24 Improved implement compatibility lets you plant and grow with confidence. n Hydraulics. The heavy-duty hydraulic system boasts plenty of reserve capacity to operate large hydraulic motors, even at reduced engine speeds. Closed-center pressure-and-flow-compensated hydraulics are standard equipment and are used for all steering, brake, hitch, and SCV functions. DON T LET SEEDS OF DOUBT GROW IN YOUR FIELDS. n High-flow hydraulic option. The high-flow option is now available on all 9R/9RT models, and provides an additional 30 gpm (114 L/min) of hydraulic flow for a total of 78 gpm (294 L/min). Hydraulic functions can be split between the two systems: functions that require high flow and low pressure can be combined on one system (such as air-seeder fans and planter motors). Functions that require high pressure and low flow can be connected to the remaining system (such as implement lift, fold, and down-pressure). n Selective control valves (SCVs). You can choose four to six SCVs at the rear of the tractor to meet your needs. Simple hydraulic control lets you easily adjust flow and time detents for each hydraulic coupler right from the CommandARM Console. A new 3/4-inch (19 mm) SCV can be field installed, providing 45 gpm (170 L/min) for 22-percent greater flow from one SCV when compared to the 9030 Series. This increased flow allows for implements to run efficiently with a quicker reaction time during operation and quicker fold time. 24

25 Hydraulics and SCV Options A new easy-fill oil reservoir decreases the number of check points and helps maintain the proper oil level in virtually all conditions. Two hydraulic oil filters increase the service interval from 750 to 1500 hours and provide improved filtration to protect the hydraulic system, axles, and transmission. The oil-level management system within the transmission has been improved as well for efficient cooling during transport. 9R Series Tractors can be equipped with the exclusive John Deere ActiveSeat, which isolates you from up to 90 percent of vertical movements for a smooth ride. The optional Category 3/4N or 4/4N 3-point hitch has a lift capacity of up to 20,000 pounds (9072 kg). That s a 30-percent increase in hitchlift capacity over the 9030 Series. A Category 5 drawbar with heavy-duty drawbar support and 12,000-pound (5440 kg) maximum vertical load capacity provides added load-bearing strength to handle large-capacity and extra-wide implements. A variety of options lets you customize the drawbar to meet your needs, such as weight packages for additional ballasting, and a wide-swinging drawbar with a heavy-duty hammer strap on track tractors. n PTO. An optional rear PTO is now available on all ag 9R/9RT Series Tractors, and can power everything from your grain carts, potato diggers, beet or forage harvesters, and more. A fully independent 1 3/4-inch (4.4 cm) 1,000-rpm PTO is standard equipment. The 20-spline shaft is built to handle high-power, heavy PTO loads. PTO engagements are automatically modulated for smooth starts to help protect your implement from high-torque overloads. Hitch, Drawbar, and PTO Options The new Category 4/4N 3-point hitch with 20,000-pound (9072 kg) hitch-lift capacity features a robust Quik-Coupler that makes it a perfect match for heavy 3-point implements. All ag 9R/9RT Series Tractors can be equipped with a PTO, allowing you to use the same 4WD or track tractor for PTO applications while having a rugged pulling tractor for planting, seeding, and tillage. 27
