1 Visual Arts (K) 4 th Lesson Aim: To introduce the visual arts -- how we talk about art, what are some famous works of art. Objectives: Terms: Snap the Whip, Windslow Homer, Children s Games, Pieter Bruegel, Le Gourmet, Pablo Picasso, gourmet, The Banjo Lesson, Henry O. Tanner, Mother s Helper, Diego Rivera, The Bath, Mary Cassatt, basin. Material: Today we are going to look at and discuss some works of art. The painting Snap the Whip was painted over 100 years ago by the American artist Windslow Homer. It shows boys playing a game during recess. In the game of Snap the Whip, children hold hands in a line, then run behind a leader, who runs fast and turns quickly so quickly that you can get thrown out of line. Sensory: (S) Spell S N A P. Bruegel painted more than 90 different games in this single painting. Some of these games are still played by children today such as marbles, tug-of-war, and leapfrog. The real painting is very large 4 feet high by 5 feet long.
