DIRECT ASSEMBLY OF A RIBBON BRIDGE RAFT 12C30 - D03 O/H # 1
Action: Direct assembly of a ribbon bridge raft. Conditions: In a classroom or at a designated float bridge training site, given 2 ribbon bridge ramps, 4 ribbon bridge interior bays and the required bridge erection boats on transporters, mission directive to construct a ribbon raft, and personnel. Standard: Directed the assembly of a 6 float ribbon raft, for given raft design, using sequential steps without causing injury to self, personnel, or damage to equipment and degradation to the environment. Safety: Safety is always a primary consideration when soldiers are required to work near or over water. Army Regulation (AR) gives requirements that must be followed. 12C30 - D03 O/H # 2
Environmental: Water operations of every sort is an environmentally sensitive area. Spills, sediment, and refuse can contaminate area water resources. Training activities have the potential to violate Army, Federal or State environmental laws and regulations. Violations will subject training activity to partial or complete shut down or even possible civil or criminal prosecution to the individual violator. Being unaware of a requirement is not considered a legitimate defense. Training will be conducted in designated areas only. All spills of hazardous materials and POL products will be reported to the areas environmental office. Unit responsible for the spill will contain the spill to reduce further environmental and training area degradation. Risk Assessment: Medium. 12C30 - D03 O/H # 3
ORGANIZE THE DUTIES OF THE LAUNCH SITE CREW Check to ensure that the bridge bay latches are thrown and the cable is out of the cable guide. Lock down the driver side aft tie-down. Ground guide the transporter into the water and release the bay when directed. 12C30 - D03 O/H # 4
ORGANIZE THE DUTIES OF THE BOAT OPERATORS Boat operators are normally a crew of two licensed soldiers. Safety boats also have two operators, both trained on the correct method of recovering soldiers from the water, basic first aid, artificial respiration and radio procedures. The safety boats should be equipped, as a minimum with the standard equipment. 12C30 - D03 O/H # 5

ORGANIZE THE DUTIES OF THE TRANSPORTER SHUTTLE CREW The shuttle crew are drivers that shuttles the prepared bays from the engineer equipment park to the launch site. The NCOIC of the engineer equipment park has control over these soldier s. License drivers that understands hand signals for ribbon bridge. The transporter shuttle crew prepares the bays for launch while the vehicles are staged in the engineer equipment park. 12C30 - D03 O/H # 8
BRIDGE COMMANDER BRIEFS SAFETY PROCEDURES All soldiers wear life preservers and unblouse boots while on or near the water. Soldiers who are not strong swimmers will be identified using the units discretion during day operations and a chem-light during night operations. Ropes will not trail in the water from the bridge or from the boats. The safety boat will warn civilian crafts or other vessels which might create a hazard or might interfer with the bridging operation. The safety boat will be stationed downstream. The transporter shuttle crew preparing the bays for launch at the engineer equipment park will keep the drivers side aft tie-down up to be dropped by the launch site crew on the shore line. 12C30 - D03 O/H # 9
