Machine allows machining wheel-sets with drive reducer on wheel axes without dismounting the same before machining. Loading and unloading machine is carried out by crane, other technological operations are automated. Special design feature of the machine is installation of faceplate drive motors on spindle stocks. In case of installation on foundation lower than floor level it is possible to make rolling- in and- out of wheel-sets on rails from back side of the machine. CNC control provides high accuracy and efficient machining. Basic machine is furnished with SINUMERIK 840D. Portal configuration enables mounting the machine in technological transfer line for machining wheel-sets in car building-and repairing works. High productivity of model K836F3 is achieved owing to automation of all operations incl. wheel setting, profile measuring, allowance prescribing, control of machining parameters and unloading machined part. Machine is furnished with contact free measuring system. Measuring process is carried out before machining for automatic determination of allowance and after machining for checking wheel-set parameters. Dimensions are checked at operation speeds without stopping machine. Total torque of spindle heads enables machining with maximal cutting depth in the heavy duty mode which reduces machining cycle. CNC controlled carriages have ball-screw pairs in feed drives. Stable performance of feed drives in wide range of regulation is provided with high torque electric motors SIEMENS. Cutting area of machine is closed during operations. Protection enclosure is to be opened automatically while loading and unloading wheel-set. Chip disposal process is automated. Intended for machining new and repairing used wheel-sets for cars, diesel-and electric locos. We provides overhauls of model UBB 2 and models made on its base. During overhaul repairs the up-to-date carriages with ball-screw pairs in feed drives are mounted on machine. Machine is furnished with contact free CNC automated system. Automation of most technological operations and CNC control system enable high accuracy and efficiency of machining process, increases permissible number of profile restoring turning downs. In basic version machine is completed with SINUMERIK 840D SIEMENS. Machine is provided with tooling system SANDVIC COROMANT, Sweden. Two wheel- sets can be machined simultaneously on this machine. The tyre of single wheel- set can be machined with rolling out it from locomotive. Machine is to be installed under foundation rails in closed room with heating and ventilation systems. Loco moves over machine at green light signal. Wheel- sets are loaded on machine to milling operation position by means of auxiliary winch and four machine rollers. Two milling cutters are safely centered in wheel-set axle seats by two centering heads. Simultaneous high-speed machining of two wheel-set tyres by shaped milling cutters provides obtaining precise profile, out-ofroundness and equality of wheel diameters on tread in accordance with high up-to-fate requirements for restoration of working shaped profile of wheels under locomotive. Small size chips are easy to dispose. Machine remote control system is automated by means of electric and hydraulic units and all main operations are performed by pressing buttons or switches on control desk. For easy control the desks are duplicated in two places. Full milling process of two wheel tyres is performed within one wheel-set revolution under locomotive. 10 SPECIAL - PURPOSE RAILWAY WHEEL LATHE Model 836M.0. APPLICATION Special-purpose wheel lathe, model 836M.0, is designed for machining new wheel sets and reprofiling worn- out tyres of wheel sets used in diesel and electrical locomotives, coaches and commuter trains with railroad gauge of mm and tread diameter mm. Wheel sets are machined by carbide tools made in SANDVIK-KOROMANT, Sweden. 2. DESIGN FEATURES Main assembly components of the lathe are: bed, spindle heads (LH & RH), reducer, drive motor of faceplate and spindle heads, carriages (LH & RH), jack, control panel. Configuration of the lathe is symmetric arrangement of the components in regard to middle line perpendicular to a centers line. Wheel set is loaded onto rollers of hydraulic jack by overhead crane to position below the center line 5-0 mm. Then, the spindle heads are brought together simultaneously to clamp a wheel set in quill centers. Further movement of spindle heads retracts the quills, and the driven jaws thrust against ends of wheels, thus transmitting a torque from the gearbox to a wheel set. Jaw plungers pockets on each faceplate are linked together. That allows to distribute a clamping force uniformly. Spindle speed control is infinitely variable by rotating a dial located on the control panel. After loading wheel set, reducer is to be switched from heads movement to faceplate rotation by the button on the lathe control panel. Thereafter, an operator manually sets templates in stand by position. Profile is to be machined in consequent scanning all along with straight- turning tools. Carriages are provided with bi-dimensional hydraulic servo system. Feed rate is controlled infinitely variable. Highly motorized, the lathe provides easy and convenient service. 3. DESIGNATION Special-purpose wheel lathe, model 836M.7, is designed for machining new wheel- sets and reprofiling worn- out tyres of wheel sets used in diesel and electrical locomotives, coaches and commuter trains with railroad gauge of mm and tread diameter mm. There is possibility to machine the wheel-sets along with reducer Wheel -sets are machined by carbide tools made in SANDVIK-KOROMANT, Sweden. 2.
