Select 20 calendar days. Name your day, draw a picture, select an activity, and make a connection. Then, write a short essay persuading Mr. Kal N. Der, the supreme calendar maker in the world, why your calendar should be considered for publication next year. For example, you may call a day Take a Hike Day! Your activity would be to wear your favorite leather boots and hike up a hill (or to the Capitol) in celebration of the Etruscans fine, leather lace-up boots which gave them better footing on rough ground. 7 Take a Hike Day Celebrating the Etruscan Weapon Shoes Connection July 7 th Having boots with support can help us sustain long hikes. Also, our soldiers wear boots to help them on rough terrain. Your events should demonstrate a strong understanding of the many accomplishments that the Roman s have given to our culture: political, economic, social, cultural, technological, character, etc. Therefore, brainstorm to come up with the top 20 events that show a variety and are significant today. After the students have completed and shared their calendars, have a class discussion If Rome accomplished all of these things, why did the Roman Empire fall?
