2 Year 11 Pathway Year 11 is an important year in the British Education system as students take their exams. Students are usually aged 15 in Year 11 and it is the last year of compulsory secondary education in the UK. s are usually taken over 2 years but the special Year 11 Pathway allows you to take 5 to 7 s in one year only. This means in one year you will achieve the minimum entry requirements necessary to go on to study A Levels or the IB Diploma. For some degree courses such as medicine it makes your application stronger to have s as well as A Levels or the IB Diploma. The Year 11 Pathway has been especially designed with a good range of subjects that keeps your options open for the next step. During the year we help you to choose the right subjects for Year 12 and decide between A Levels or the IB Diploma so that the pathway you choose leads you to your chosen university degree.

3 Choose the pathway if: You are planning to study A Levels or the IB Diploma in the UK and you are age 15. The Year 11 Pathway will help you get the s you need. The programme focuses on developing you academically and providing you with the skills to flourish in the UK education system in Year 12 /13 and beyond at university. You want a gap year studying in the UK system before returning to your own country to continue your education there. You will the leave the Year 11 Pathway with IGSCEs, improved English and an unforgettable experience. You are age 16 but your English is not strong enough for you to start A Levels or the IB Diploma. The Year 11 Pathway will help you improve your English as well as helping you to get a good foundation in the subjects you want to study. You are a British student who wants to return to the UK Education system or you want to repeat your s in one year to improve your results.

4 Being part of Year 11 Our Year 11 Pathway programme is designed for you to get a real Year 11 experience. You will wear school uniform, participate in extra-curricular activities, attend school assemblies, be placed in a tutor group to follow a PSHE programme and be part of one of Sidcot s four Houses. You will also take games and have the opportunity to represent Sidcot in Sport. Boarding When you board at Sidcot you join a friendly, family community in which you can live, work and play, secure in the knowledge that you are valued and well cared for. Boarding provides you with the space to focus on your work, whilst also giving you the chance to get involved in a wide range of extracurricular activities. We have five boarding houses on campus and each House has a Houseparent who is responsible for looking after the students welfare. Duke of Edinburgh s Award Scheme Year 11 students are able to enter and complete in one year the Duke of Edinburgh s Silver Award. This involves participating in physical and skills activities throughout the year as well as completing a period of service and taking part in overnight expeditions. In Year 12 there is an opportunity to progress to the Gold Award.

6 The Curriculum Higher Stream Minimum of B2 Level of English Standard Stream Minimum of B1 Level of English Academics To achieve five to seven s in a year you will study in specialist classes with experienced teachers to help you achieve the best results. These classes are dedicated Year 11 Pathway classes so you receive the necessary support. We make sure you cover all the material in the one year. Assessment English Language History English as second language ICT (OCR Short Course) When you arrive at Sidcot School we will assess you and place you in either the higher stream or the standard stream. The number of s that you take will depend on your ability, your level of English and your plans for the next stage in your education. Ongoing Assessment Throughout the year you will be assessed to monitor your progress and regular reports will be sent to your parents. We will also help you to make decisions about the next stage in your education. September fees for Year 11 Pathway Physics Maths (Streamed by ability) Global Studies a course that covers global issues. This course will help you with research, presentations and extended writing and leads to an Extended Project Qualification at Level 1 or Level 2 OR Biology 9840 per term (annual fee 29,520) Chemistry OR Art Economics OR Business Studies In your own language (If available)
