1 JNIOR Web Pages Security Update Last updated: February 24, 2014 The following information describes the update to the JNIOR web pages to meet the new security requirements for the Java plug-in that runs on your PC to allow the JNIOR web pages to operate properly. Please contact INTEG via at or via phone at extension 20 with any questions. Overview The main JNIOR web page utilizes Java applets to allow the web page to work dynamically. Recently, an update to the Java plug-in that runs on your PC has required all Java applets to be electronically signed by a recognized authority for security purposes. An update project that works with the JNIOR Support Tool is available on our website in the Support section on the Software Downloads web page at the following link: There is an update project that ONLY loads the new java applets used by the web pages. For most users, this is all that is required. The All in One update projects for the Series 3 JNIORs and the Series 4 JNIORs have been updated to include the new web pages. Please download the update zip file, but do NOT unzip it. Please open the JNIOR Support Tool, go to the Update tab and click on Open Project and navigate to where you saved the zip file. The JNIOR Support Tool will unzip the file. Then click Publish Update to JNIOR and select your JNIOR to update. NOTE: The same Java applets are used on both the Series 3 and Series 4 JNIORs. The update project that only loads the java applets can be used for both series. The appropriate All in One must be used for the appropriate JNIOR series. 1

2 Explanation The following screen pictures describe what you may be seeing when you launch the JNIOR web page. The actual message you may see depends on which version of the Java plug-in you are running as well as how you have Java configured on your PC. If you have the Java security settings on your PC set to high, you may see the following message when you launch the JNIOR web page. A work around to this problem would be to lower your security settings (shown in the following screen picture) to medium. However, with the new JNIOR web pages, you do NOT have to lower your security settings. 2

3 If you changed your security settings set to medium then you may be seeing the following pop-up. You can check the box that says I accept the risk and want to run this app and then click on the Run button. The JNIOR web page should load properly. However, with the new JNIOR web pages, you do NOT have to lower your security settings. Another work around is to add each JNIOR s IP address to your Java set-up on your PC. This will allow your JNIOR web pages to load properly. 3

4 If you clicked on the Update button in the above screen picture or installed the latest Java plug-in when it was automatically downloaded to your PC, then you should see the following web page. The latest Java software for your PC is Version 7 Update 51 (as of the date of this application note). After you load the Java update and the new JNIOR Java applets, when you launch the JNIOR web page, you should see the following pop-up box. Clicking on the Run button will continue to load the JNIOR web page and allow it to run properly. If you check the box Do not show this again, then the pop-up will not be displayed again. You are now running secure web pages. 4

5 If you click on the More Information box in the above screen picture, the following popup is displayed. It indicates that the publisher (INTEG) is verified by a trusted certificate authority. If you click on the View Certificate Details in the above screen picture, the following details are displayed showing that INTEG was verified by Thawte. 5
