New Mexico Library Association Native American Libraries Special Interest Group, New Mexico Library Association Community Service Native Health Initiative: Research, teaching, and service interests Bringing relevant, high quality health and medical information to health care consumers and practitioners in New Mexico has been the focus of my work as a health sciences librarian. Few things are more important than our health and the health of those we care about. The health of a community can also determine the well being of its members. Quality, accurate information is a building block of good health. Health and medical information today is widely available electronically, but due to the unregulated nature of the Internet much of the information is inaccurate or biased. Information for practitioners at the point of patient care is abundant, but can be costly or unavailable to those unaffiliated with a research institution. Teaching consumers and practitioners to locate health and medical information that is high quality, free, effectively, and efficiently remains an educational objective of mine. Scholarly articles
