The Three Elements of the Recording System A Recording Device You supply an ipad, ipod or Smart Phone The Swivl Robot Base Swivl Software Applications
The Swivl Robot Base is connected to the Swivl Marker by an infrared sensor. It is a line of sight connection. The Swivl Robot Base receiver must see the Swivl Marker. The Swivl Marker controls the pan and tilt motors of the base unit, and the start and stopping of the recording onto the Recording Device The microphone on the Swivl Marker connects to the Swivl Robot Base unit by Bluetooth. The Swivl Robot Base unit connects to the ipad via the included audio cable. The Recording Device and the Swivl will need to be Bluetooth paired.
Element One Setting up the ipad You may have a different recording device, like an ipod or Smart Phone. Please adapt the instructions for the ipad to your device.
Your Recording Device may come with a case to protect it during transportation. This protective case must be removed before using it with the Swivl. Follow the instruction that came with your case for removal. PLEASE REMOVE THE PROTECTIVE CASE NOW.
Audio Input Jack On the top Front Camera Lens Power On/Off button On the top Screen Rotation Lock On the side Volume Controls On the side Charging slot On the bottom Home Button
For an ipad Power On/Off button On the top Hold down the button until the Apple logo appears. Let the operating system load. It will be ready when you see a screen similar to this one. Slide to unlock? You should go the Swivl web site or the Apple App Store and download the free Swivl Capture app by Satarii Inc.. Download the Google Drive App also if you need to move the video off the Recording Device to share with someone.
Fully charge the Recording Device before using. For an ipad take the connector and insert it into the receiver at the bottom of the ipad Plug the Power Adapter end into an Electrical Outlet. A Charging symbol in the upper right corner will tell you the charge level.
Normally the ipad has a power saving setting that will put the ipad to sleep after so many minutes of non key or touch-use. You will have to turn this setting to Never. Find the Settings icon and tap on it. Next go down the list on the left and look for General, tap on that. Look on the right hand side for Auto Lock. Tap on that and choose Never. Battery drain will occur if you don t manually put the ipad to sleep when not in use. Push the Power button, it will go into sleep mode. Push the Power button again will wake it up.
Look for the Setting App and tap it. On the Settings column on the left of the screen, the third item down is the Bluetooth control. Make sure it is on. This will cause the recording device to pair with the Swivl device, when it is turned on later.
Element Two The Swivl System
One Swivl Robot base One Swivl Marker This is stored inside the base One Lanyard One short Audio cable One Wall Charger One Swivl Carry Case Another Cable with WB 2 additional Mounting brackets Instructions
Remove the Swivl from the Case and put it on a firm and stable desk or table. The Swivl works from rechargeable internal batteries, both in the Robot Base unit and in the Swivl Marker If the Swivl charge runs low you can recharge it by plugging the Power Adapter into the Power Input located on the bottom edge. The Charging Light will blink green while it charges, becoming solid green when fully charged. Power Input Charging Light
The Marker is stored and charged in special compartment in the top of the base. The Marker charges with the base, it should fit in only one way so the metal connectors make contact with the charging unit
The Swivl Robot Base and Marker should last about three hours on a full charge.
Before going further with the Swivl device we need to insert the ipad into the rubber slot on the top of the Swivl. Put the Swivl on a firm flat surface with the base front pointing toward you. Hold the ipad with the screen facing you in the horizontal position with the HOME button to the right and the audio input jack to the left. It has to be this way for the audio cable included with the device to reach from the Swivl output jack to the ipad input jack. Now center the ipad above the slot on the top of the Swivl and firmly press it into the slot. The ipad should sit secure and not wobble.
Turn on the Power by holding down the Power Button on the right side of the Base for 1 to 2 seconds The Power light will be a sustained red. Power On/Off
Turn on the Swivl Robot Base Bluetooth by pressing the button on the left side of the base until the light glows red. Power On/Off
Turn on the ipad Bluetooth by selecting the Settings icon and looking on the left side column for Bluetooth, if it is not already On move the slider button on the right side to the right. The ipad will begin to search for nearby Bluetooth compatible devices. In the list will be SWIVL. On the right of the word will be either connected or not connected Power On/Off
If not connected tap on the SWIVL under My Devices. The Swivl and ipad will begin a connection handshake. When complete the ipad will say Connected and the Swivl Base Bluetooth button will have a green light next to it. Power On/Off
Remove the Marker from the holding bay in the top of the Swivl base. Position the Marker about two to three feet away. Power On the Marker by pushing and holding the grey button on the side of the Marker for 2 to 3 seconds. The light on the side will turn green and the Swivl Base may move.
You may get prompted to join or log into Swivl Cloud. You don t want to go to Swivl Cloud so please select Next to the questions a couple times to move to the next step
Put the Marker with the microphone facing upward in the Lanyard and put the Lanyard around your neck The tracking mechanism works best if you are three feet or more from the device. Be aware as you try to make adjustments to the ipad, and move closer to the ipad, the Swivl base will move to follow you, this also moves the ipad
... If connected the Swivl Robot Base should follow you. Both buttons on the Swivl Robot Base will be green. And the light on the Swivl Marker will also be green.
You will need to load from the Swivl web site or the Apple App Store the Swivl Capture Software. If already installed the Swivl Capture Software should load when you make the Bluetooth connection. If it doesn t open the Swivl Capture App on the ipad

With the ipad on and the Capture App open. With the Swivl Robot Base and Bluetooth Buttons on and green With the Swivl Marker on and green You should stand so you are framed in the ipad viewer, you should be at least three feet away.
