4 FRAMECAD Fibre Cement Sheets FRAMECAD Fibre Cement Sheeting is a high density sheet ideally suited for exterior cladding, interior lining and Flooring FRAMECAD Fibre Cement complies with; ASTM C :2002 (Type B) - Density - Flexural Strength - Moisture absorption, EQ moisture content and moisture movement BS Class A (GB ) - Reaction to fire - More than 2 hours high fire rating for interior wall system - No failure at 120 minutes ASTM G-21 - Non nutrient to mould, fungus or insect life Manufacturing FRAMECAD Fibre Cement Sheeting is a strong and flexible board composed of Portland Cement, refined ores, and reinforced cellulose fibre as the main materials. It is made under high temperature and pressure which generates a light weight, durable and smooth-faced board for various applications. FRAMECAD Fibre Cement Sheeting is a light weight energy saving building panel with non-asbestos fibre that is treated by high temperature and high pressure autoclave process, in accordance with ISP Page 1

LGS Being non-combustible, when fire burns through the linings it will not spread within the framing cavity in steel framing, whereas this is a major cause of hidden fire spread in timber framing. 2. Steel Framing does not increase the fire load. Timber is combustible and there is at least 20kg of timber per square metre of floor area in a timber framed house. This is 75% of the design fire load of a houses content, which means that a timber framed house is carrying at least 1.75 times the fire load of a steel framed house. The higher the fire load, the more severe the fire. Therefore it is not surprising that fire case histories show steel houses perform very well in house fires, with little or no damage to the framing structure. Furthermore if steel framed members are not visibly distorted they can be left in place, cleaned and if necessary recoated. If they are distorted then they need to be replaced. When FRAMECAD Fibre Cement Sheeting is used for Fire Rated Systems the stud spacing must not exceed 400mm c/c (center to center) and nogs 800mm c/c. Refer to Clause 6.4 in the Fire and Acoustic Design Manual for further guidance on fire rating. The steel framing must be suitably coated to satisfy the Durability requirements of clause B2 of the New Zealand Building Code (NZBC) and other applicable building standards. Item Index Unit Fire Resistance BS 476 Fire test on building materials and structures No failurem at 120 minutes Page 3
7 Storage and Handling It is the responsibility of the builder to ensure that the product meets aesthetic requirements before installation. FRAMECAD will not be responsible for rectifying obvious aesthetic surface variations following installation. FRAMECAD Fibre Cement sheets must be stored flat on a smooth surface. Precaution should be taken that edges and corners are protected from damage. Ensure that all sheets are stored under cover and kept dry. If Sheets become wet they must be dried prior to installation. Carry sheets in the vertical position as this will avoid bending and possible breakage. Page 4
8 Cutting FRAMECAD Fibre Cement Sheets Score and Snap: Score on the face side of the product. Score against a straight edge and repeat the action to obtain adequate depth for a clean break - normally 1/3 of the sheet thickness Snap upwards to achieve the break, smooth any rough edges with a rasp Guillotine: Mark sheet with a straight cut line on the underside of the sheet that is to be cut. Following this line, guillotine cut on the off-cut side of line to allow for the thickness of the blade. Sawing The saw blade used with a dusk reducing saw and vacuum extraction allows for fast, clean cutting for FRAMECAD Fibre Cement sheets. Alternatively, FRAMECAD recommends the use of a wet saw, with a full dust extraction system. When sawing, clamp a straight-edge to the sheet as a guide and run the saws base plate along the straight edge when making the cut. A hand saw offers ability to make small cuts and notches. For accuracy and neatness mark out lines on the face side of the sheet prior to sawing. A quick jabbing motion provides the best result. Forming a Hole: For smooth clean cut circular holes: Mark the center of the hole on the sheet. Pre-drill a pilot hole. Using the pilot hole as a guide, cut the hole to the appropriate diameter with a hole saw fitted to a electric drill. For irregular holes: Small rectangular or circular holes can be cut by drilling a series of small holes around the perimeter of the hole then tapping out the waste piece from sheet face. Tap carefully to avoid damage to sheets, ensuring that the sheet edges are properly supported. Page 5

FRAMECAD Fibre Cement Sheets must be placed firmly against the frame when fixing to ensure breakout does not occur on the back. Screw located too far from web, causing bending of flange and a loose fixing of the cladding Screw located close to the web, ensuring a tight fix to the cladding Page 6

15 Maintenance Maintenance is the responsibility of the specifier to determine. The extent of any maintenance will be determined by the geographic location and exposure of the building. FRAMECAD recommends the following; Wash exterior surfaces every 6-12 months Reapply paint finish as necessary Ensure all joints, flashings and sealants are maintained to ensure any means of moisture entering beyond the exterior cladding are stopped. Clean gutters and pipes and overflows as needed Prune back vegetation so that it is not touching the cladding Note: FRAMECAD do not recommend the use of a Water Blaster Health and Safety FRAMECAD Fibre Cement Sheeting is manufactured from cement, refined ores and reinforced cellulose fibre. As manufactured the product will not release airborne dust, but during drilling, cutting and sanding operations cellulose fibres, silica and calcium silicate dust may be released. Breathing fine silica dust is hazardous, prolonged exposure (usually over several years) may cause bronchitis, silicosis or cancer. If using power tools for cutting, drilling or sanding they must be fitted with an appropriate dust collection devices and/or used an approved dust mask and wear safety glasses. These precautions are not necessary when stacking, unloading or handling fibre cement products. For further information please contact FRAMECAD Safe Working Practices Do not breathe dust and cut only in well ventilated areas. FRAMECAD Fibre Cement sheets contain and silica which is considered by some authorities as a cause for cancer. Breathing excessive amounts of dust can harm and potentially cause lung disease. Ensure that work is performed in well ventilated areas Reduce dust when cutting by using a score and snap knife or by using a dust reducing saw. Be aware and inform others when cutting is taking place so that they can avoid dust inhalation. Always wear a proper fitting and approved dust mask or respirator. Page 13
